My First Time Driving a Motorcycle! 🇻🇳 Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City

- Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon, Vietnam: after seeing 8 of the 30 million people of this crazy city driving a motorcycle, I decided I should give it a try and become the newbie that will drive a motorcycle for his first time!
In Vietnam, if you can't drive a motorbike it is very hard to move. Or you drive it, or you rent it as a taxi. So I needed to ride the motorcycle, learn and risk it because I'd love to go on a solo motorbike adventure!

Would you trust me to go on a solo motorcycle drive in the next vlogs?! 😅
Sorry for the late upload, it was supposed to go out 2 hours ago, but this one took me days of editings instead of hours!
Have a beautiful day!
In hanoi
Hmmmmm i sence a colab coming on with Tim K and harald baldr and mr M ponte lol
I already have a collab with Tim 🙂 ruclips.net/video/2sXj0QrBOPE/видео.html
Maybe you can try a more continuous vlog like Harold to reduce the edit time... also your English is great... but thank you for your efforts to produce subtitles. Great content I’m enjoying your vlogs 😎
That was brave of you. You gave me a few shivers. First time rider is one thing...to get video footage along with being a first time rider... commendable!! I love your work. Great job!
Hi Terrence, I am so happy to have shot this video!
Usually is very hard to completely remember how was the first time we tried something, but this time I have the whole footage and I will always be able to look at it again and again!
I love to collect memories!
I am watching this with great anticipation. . . . . .I feel nervous, lol. 😂
Ahah, that's the right feeling 😁
Michelle you are so funny, I don’t know if your brave or mad. 😂😂 I do know that I’ve subscribed because you make me laugh a lot. 🌸
Ahah, that's the best compliment I can receive! Thank you! 😁
Thanks for the shout out Michele! :-) This video is the kind of video that I hope is seen by other successful RUclipsrs like Bald and Bankrupt or even Harald Baldr. They could help share your exciting and well as heart warming videos by pairing up together for one. I saw the 2 you did with Tim K and they were great. This video could be your best to date although I loved the Batu Caves a LOT!! One of these video gems is destined to go VIRAL!!!!!!
Let's hope so, Ken!
Sometimes on RUclips you need just one big viral hit to get the channel to 100k, other times is years of work 🙂
That was simply amazing!! You did such a great job!! You are a very brave man!! I was so nervous watching you but for a first time you did Really well...loved the video...
Thank you for the really nice comment, Shirley!
Michele - You are the absolute best! I really give you credit for your bravery to get on a motorbike for the first time in your life, and then drive in one of the busiest cities! I have never driven a motorbike myself, and don’t know if I could do what you accomplished here. I hope you master your driving skills, as it will allow you to take us places in your travels, that we would not see. It will expand your future travel horizons. THANK YOU so much for your excellent vlogs! As with all your vlogs - So enjoyable!
Thank you so much, Randy!
Learning how to drive it, got me one step closer to freedom and reaching my dreams.
Driving a motorcycle, it was never my plan. But once there, I changed my perspectives.
That's the beauty of traveling!
Been on the back of a Grab bike since arriving here last week. Thrilling!!! The only way to see, smell and take in the sounds of HCMC
I totally agree, and also the fastest way to see it!
Enjoy Vietnam... Beautiful country
Thank you so much, Caro!
@@MichelePonte wlc🙏
Michele you are too funny!! Love this video - I was nervous for you, but you did it! You owned the road!!! Be safe my friend 😉
Thank you so much, Heidi! I really appreciate your comment!
Be safe too 🙂
They are riding so fast.
You are learning to ride now, so brave.
I am a little scared for watching your video 😱
Well, it was a experience it was worth doing, so on Monday's video I can go on a date show you more
Awesome vid! That was some ride Michele. For a second there I was worried you were focussing too much on the camera than on the road! Great idea with cam in the pouch. Felt like we were learning how to ride along with you. Be safe!
Yeah, it was a very weird moment regarding the camera because I had to forget it was there, but at the same moment speak loud so you guys could see what I was thinking 🙂
Be safe too!
A great video Michele! "We are safe. Probably" Ha! HA! HA! Stay safe Michele!
Ahah, yeah Martin, probably we still are!
Glad You Survived the Heavy Trrafic of Saigon
Me too, Jeremy!🙂
Michele Ponte yeah man Its hectic, The Days i was there i was like a chicken on a motorbike cuz there’s 1000’s of them at the Traffic light
Would be really great to be on fall building, look down and make an amaizing photo!
Oh Gosh!
Awesome content happening on this channel.
Such good fun watching this video Michele. Keep it up. You are a natural. I reckon you are going to smash your own ▶️ button one day very soon!
GazWiz, I dream for that day to happen!
Thank you so much!
That ride is stressing me out! II feel like I'm driving. Between the helmet and the funny comments, I started laughing! Maybe the right side of the road has more hazards.
For sure with that tiny helmet I wouldn't have survived any accident 😅 but now that I'm safe, we can all laugh about it!
2:07 - haha, I specifically looked for and ate at that restaurant you passed that "didn't look tempting" to you :) it was recommended as one of the best places in Saigon with the "bun rieu" dish :)
Ahah, was it good?
@@MichelePonte yeah, it was! :)
Well, maybe next time!
@@MichelePonte Take the camera if you stop. :-)
You are brave Michele. Good job for first time. It is chaos and just walking is crazy.
Thanks you so much! I am so happy I was able to push through this fear!
Wow well done you for riding through the chaos. Funny helmet felt nervous watching but Yaaay you were successful. Really enjoyed watching.
I was nervous too, but the end result that is what matters! 🙂
Michele, I was just telling my ham radio friend about you who is also a Vlogger "AA1PR" who has over 1,500 videos and over a million views so far. I suggested that he check out this video! He is into the outdoors and we talk often on DMR Digital Radio channel 31655 "Adventure Overland". I hope that he and his viewers enjoy your adventures as much as I have!! This crazy Newbie Motorcycle adventure simply has to go VIRAL!!!!!!!
Ken, you are simply the best.
Maybe one day we should make a video together, you are the number one!
@@MichelePonte :-)
You are hilarious mate
I’m currently in Vietnam and rode a scooter Nha Trang to Delat and back (320kms) in one day, so much scary fun😀
Ahah, today I’ve done 100km, and yes, it is scary fun 😅
Gutsy dude! A baptism of fire. Well done Michele.
A baptism of fire is the perfect way to describe it!
Cool Video keep them coming
I will Louie, thank you!
Crazy. Kudos to you if this really was your first time - seems unimaginable to do this in central HCMC. I live in Da Nang and even here it was scary riding the first times!
Yes, it was, and it was thrilling and I made many mistakes!
Lol loved the video. You looked so scared but also looked like you were having fun. I hope you do a bike journey in countryside. That would be cool.
You are right, both scared and excited!
You will see in the new video on Monday!
oh my God 😂 you did it bro 💯❤️ confidence make you perfect strong 💪👊 great
Ahah, thank you! 😁
You were brave to start learning to drive the motorbike in wild and crazy traffic ! Wow ! 😂
Yeah, I couldn't resist the challenge!
scary !but glad u made it, keep safe always...cute helmet
Thank you Lorna, the helmet was totally my size! 😅
Its easy to drive a "schooter" or motorbike if you get the hang of it. Its a lot of fun.
Probably the main problem is the fear to hurt yourself and others
You drive dangerous. But I like it 🚦🚦🚦🚦
Ahah, I do appreciate it!
Donald, is that you? MAGA Mr. President!!
if you go to Phnom Penh my brother Patrick Cambo would be down to meet you, he's a friend of Harolds
Thank you, maybe in 2020!
Big boost in travel now 🛵
Yeah, next week I will have some cool videos!
Ciao!! Ti ho incontrato alla festa del libro di bologna!! Grandee
Grande Guido, grazie! Non me lo aspettavo che da Bologna ad oggi ci fosse ancora qualcuno, è una bella sorpresa!
Hmmm I'm very late sorry will not happen again 😄...anyway awesome video love to watch more and more Michele ponte
Thank you so much, Rine, a new video on Monday!
You have made travel videos great again!
That's a great great compliment, Brad!
This was hysterical! You are too funny !!!
Ahah, thank you so much, Paula!
Im so nervous watching your video but you made it and you made me laugh 😂! Good luck Michelle 👍.May God bless you on that crazy street. Is there no traffic lights?
There are traffic lights, but there is more traffic than lights 😅
That is ridiculous! 😂Be careful stay safe!
Green, brilliant choice of colour for the helmet. Size, hmn, maybe next time. Stay safe!
Ahahhahahah, stay safe too!
Italian and you`ve never been on a motorino...? Good video Michele......Really enjoyed it.......minchia...lol
Ahahahah, yeah Gary, until now I am still too scared to drive it in Roma!
I love it man...such awesome vlogs...always makes me laugh. Deff enjoy watching and seeing where your going. Also what your eating..love the street food stuff🤘🤙

haha good job driving !
Ahah, thanks James!
Nice video!first time drive in this road you are a hero,it is very difficult.
Thank you, Jim! I am very happy that I survived it!
I was driving 10 years motorcycle in Greece and rent scooter in Thailand first time I return back after 15 minute.
In Greece, with that views, it must have been amazing!
You survived
Yeah, fortunately there was no great white on the streets!
You are brave man. Hope you have good insurance as well ;)
No insurance 😊
I don't know if I have already asked you, because of the username, are your from Poland?
@@MichelePonte Yup you already asked :) I’m from Poland but I’m not a girl lol. Pozdrowienia dla Twojej mamy :)
No dzięki, sorry bo nie pamiętałem. Good that you are not a girl, otherwise I'd be in love! 😅
No prior experience! You got guts amico!
😁
With time confidence will grow and you will be moving through that traffic like a fish moves through water.
Thank you 🙏
Mi hai fatto venire nostalgia di Saigon. Conosco tutte le strade che hai percorso 😍
Grazie Vale', prima o poi ci torni 🙂
your very brave to do that in that traffic for your first time i was scared for you watching you
Thank you, Hulk! It was a huge bet, but here it felt safer than Rome 🙂
Never ever leave your passport on rental places 😉 leave a copy or worse case, leave a deposit... Also Harald also currently in Vietnam 😉
Maybe Harald and Michele could pair up sometime, that would be epic!
@digitalizations I tried, but they really wanted my passport. I know Harald now is in Vietnam 🙂
Nice vid and fair play for doing that. I lived and drove a bike for 5 years in Bangkok but I think HCMC looks a bit more crazy with traffic... 🤙🇮🇪☘
Imagine, Bernard, that I was lucky because it was the weekend. Otherwise, during workdays the situation is unbelievable!
I believe you! I'll stick to Taxi when I go there soon... 😂 What's your next stop after Vietnam? Keep up the good work and you'll hit 10k sub soon mate! ☘🇮🇪🤙
Ahah, download the grab app and stick to taxi, but be sure to download the app for cars and not bikes 😅
Soon videos from Italy, 1 video in Ibiza, Macedonia, Lithuania and Latvia
Michele I really fear for your safety. Please take your time and be careful. You don't have to ride the motorbike. My son was critically injured riding one when he was crushed by a car that hit him. Please be careful ♥️
Yes, Pouty, I was always scare about accidents and that's why I never drove them. But in Vietnam, because of traffic, they drive so slow that I decided to give it a try.
But thank you for your concerns 🙂
okay Piaggio almost got me with that clickbait title
It was really my firsr time, no clickbait!
Hello Ken. . . . . 😂
Here you are 😁 welcome!
Thank you Michele! 😀
Michele and I were both worried about you when we didn't see an comment on his previous video. Hope everything is fine there and nice to see you again!
I went away for a couple of days and I come back to Michele giving me anxiety on whether he is going to fall off the bike or not, lol, anyway, i am fine thank you Ken, hope you are too. 😀
harold is to vietnam too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw 🙂
Maybe Michele and Harald will meet up. He did 2 videos with Tim K that were great!!
you did a great job
Thank you so much, Paulie!

Ahah, thanks! 😅
You da man hiring in Vietnam 1st timer
Ahahah, well, would you hire me or should I hire you? 😅
hahaha very brave man! I wanna see that woman selling rats, is it barbeque flavour? 🤣🤣
I actually later find out they weren't rats... But you will see that in a future video🙂
By the way, I have seen rats on the menus of restaurants that I couldn't afford
I bet you had tough time finding your way back to the rental place. A little bit of practice and control you will be fine.
Yeah, and I've almost finished the battery of my phone to check Google Maps 🙂
Legendary riding ist timer
Ahahahah, thanks a lot, Franz!
You need to collaborate with Harald. He is in Vietnam right now
I'd love to, but at the moment I am heading somewhere else 🙂 I still have videos from Vietnam for at least the next 2 weeks, so I'll publish them even if I am not there
I think a Harald and Michele collaboration would be epic!!!
i also learned to ride a motorcycle in HCMC, fucking terrifying but being in the trenches will prepare u for anything 😂😂
Ahahah, that’s the way to do it!
I noticed as well everytime u showed gauges, you had ur left directional on, wondering did u ever turn it off the whole day ? :) also very end of video ,u finally had helmet on correctly, be careful
Ahah, I'm glad you noticed, because I didn't know if I had to point it out with some subtitles: so yeah, for a long part of the ride I forgot that I had it turned on to run left 😅
@@MichelePonteThat must have made those right turns on your bike interesting for others. :-) Made the video more daredevil.
Ahahahah, made the video great for the Newbie title!

Overcome fear and fear will go away.
I agree 100%
lol @12:49 you went on the one place you should never drive. You can literally brake evey rule but that one will get you in trouble haha funny though i remember my first-time driving their fun but scary at the same time.
I am innocent until proven guilty 😁🤚🏻
@@MichelePonteWe have the video proof. Let me see, 50,000 Euro could keep your viewers quiet for a while. :-)
Ahahah, the day I'll have 50.000 euro in the bank I will run country after country, it will be impossible to catch me😁
Keep your body weight more on rear or back tire, if you lean forward your balance will be wrong and the flow will feel bad with higher speeds. Your welcome
Thank you so much!
From Monday's video I will seat mostly on the backseat - I am too long for such motorcycles 🙂
Michele, I guess you will be meeting up with Harald Baldr later?
That would be a really cool video! He did 2 with Tim K in the Philippines that were really entertaining!!
Would be nice, but I left Vietnam and I have so many videos to work on that I will publish Vietnam content for at least 2 more weeks!
One word of advice you should never let them keep your passport if they want some proof of identity give them a photocopy of the main page if they refuse that walk away and try somewhere else !
I know, but everywhere I tried they wanted to keep it
Renting bikes!? That's cool
It really is!
@@MichelePonte yup

Now my friend it's time to travel to Bangkok and find Harald
No yet, I'd love to show you first lots of Vietnam and some unknown places from Europe 🙂
@@MichelePonte he just said on his newest video he is going to Vietnam 🇻🇳 next
Unfortunately I have already left Vietnam, but I shot so much content that I will have videos until the middle of October!
That was exciting! I know exactly how you felt riding through that mess. Did you see people on their motorbikes with their entire families, chickens, pigs, and even cows?
Entire families is very common, but I have no idea how you can fit a cow 😂
@@MichelePonte It's interesting to say the least! I have pictures, however I don't know where they are and I don't think there's a way to share. I'm sure it would be an easy search on Google. I loved the video, it had me laughing.

Bro those roads are far too crazy! Are you home safe back in Italy now?
Yeah, but I shot so many videos that I will have Vietnam uploads until the middle of October!
I’m planning to do the same. 😂 How likely can you get into accident driving motorbike in Vietnam & how much range is the payment just in case u make damages on the bike? 😬
crazy city ...crazy you hahahahaa
Ahah, then it is the perfect mix!
just keep right and do not speed you will be fine lol
Yeah, the problem is that on the right side there are always few people going against traffic 🙂
never keep my passport photocopy instead🇻🇳stai attento amico mio🇮🇹❤️🙏🏽
Grazie!
My first time landed me a trip to the emergency room and I returned my bike the same day I rented it :/
Damn
Hhahahhaa... your motorcycle driving reminds me of my first day driving... hahahaa.... how fast did you get up to?? 35??
Ahahah, I don't know how much fast/slow I was going, but lots of people were passing me 😅
@@MichelePonte hahhaha . in all places ho chin min.. hahahaha your lucky to be alive after that ride phewwww you need a t-shirt that says I survived my first motorbike drive in Asia 😂😂😂
Ahahahah, cool shirt idea!
Did you find the "Red Motorbike Hotty?"
Ahahah, no!
I think 150k is too much, I used to pay around 80-100k for renting motorbike per day back in February. Also it is not good idea to leave your passport with them, I suggest you try and give them your Italian ID card, many times it worked for me. Without passport you are fuc...d, for me it's the most important document I have when traveling. Enjoy your trip in Vietnam, it is a wonderful country with wonderful people.
Thank you for all the suggestions. Next time I will try with the ID
haha!!!!!!!!!!!!! your scooter skills cracked me up, actually very brave of u , im a licensed motorcycle rider many years experience , and I wouldn't rent a vespa in rome, because I thought that was insane, only did Florence, but seeing Vietnam ,that's a 100x worse. Im surprised honestly ,you are from Rome and didn't know how to ride a scooter. Well be careful. ,you probably pissed off a lot of fellow riders but u will be safe and make it out unhurt ,so he cares then , safety first ride safe
Yeah, in Rome I was always too scared to drive one and there is a statistic that, while driving, at least once in life you will end up in accident and break an important bone. So I've always avoided them.
But in Vietnam, after seeing it was the best way to move, I felt so tempted that I gave it a try.
Of course, on the streets everybody passed me, but it's the only way to learn.
Ride safe too!
yes not a statistic u need to join !! honestly drive as slow and careful as u need to be, if anything happens to u ,we wont get these videos :) I see herald is or already in Vietnam, will u guys be hooking up ?
Yeah, I drove as safely as possible and not just to put out more vlogs :)
I can't try to meet Harald cause I have already left Vietnam, but I shoot so many videos over there that you'll see them until the middle of October 🙂
Lol - funny stuff -- some Close encounters there to - its easy to die in vn . so i Guess u didnt find the way back -- Or ?
Fortunately I had some battery left on Google maps to drive safely until home 🙂
Michele you should hook up with " Reekay Life Beyond the Sea" He is a great blogger and an incredible guy!
I will check his channel, thank you! 🙂
Just checked out that dude's channel and it is interesting. Maybe there is a hook up in the future.
Haha nice scooter

" First time bike rider gets strict instructions from Hanoi scooter teacher , ( U give me now , passdport, Now sit on bike, it go ahead left /rite You no come back ways on bike , you fail an you know come Heeer any Mower Not even ever
Ahahhah, that’s exactly how it went
Dang it , now back to the Consulate , where did that instructor say the Embassy was ,
Lol.
I don't think you should give your passport to anyone. I would be hesitant to even give it to the corrupt officials in Asia but to some random dude in the street? No way. Better to give out a copy or some bs identity card if they fall for that.
Btw. I think travel insurance would be useless in case of a crash if you don't have a proper driver's license.
There is no need for any driving licences to drive certain bikes.
Regarding the passport, I tried to not give them, but they wouldn't accept.
These people I went to they are not so random, I think they are connected to the travel agency where they guy set on the steps and prepared me the contract.
Totally agree. Walk away if they don't take a copy. Hotels are a different story.
Highly entertaining video, Michele, but please never ever again drive against the flow of traffic. Not only is it dangerous for you and everyone in your path, but if you had had, God forbid, an accident that injured someone (say, a pedestrian), can you imagine the legal trouble you could have gotten yourself into? Not sure you would have enjoyed filming videos from a Vietnamese prison!
Dismal, thank you, I really do appreciate your concerns and I do agree with you that would be scary to end up in a Vietnamese prison. Said so, I was behaving like the locals and when I they go against the flow of traffic they are so slow that, fortunately, any accident just results in a shake of hands and they keep moving.
Of course, I have no plan on being like that every day, maybe it won't happen for years 🙂
@@MichelePonteJust think what a great VIRAL video a smuggled out film of your prison experiences would be. It could be worth it. The trick is to hide the video securely to get it out. I think you know how and where some have had to do that. :-)
@@MichelePonte Hopefully, never again! 🙂 Although the locals might just shake hands in case of a simple accident, what if someone not on a motorcycle got hurt? You would have no legal defense to a charge of reckless driving and you would be at the mercy of the local prosecutors. And things would get even worse if a foreign tourist got hurt. But in general, in places like Thailand and Vietnam, it is much safer not to rent a motorcycle since it is not always clear if you are given insurance. So, an accident could prove extremely expensive. If you go to any five star hotel and talk to their concierge desk, I'm pretty sure they will confirm what I am saying. Be safe and healthy! 🙂🤞
Ahah, well, You just give a good video idea: going to 5 stars hotel to ask for safe info instead of going there to ask for a room 🙂
But I do appreciate your concerns
There is a first for everything, just like this comment...
Ahah, you did it first!
Hip hip hurrah! Congrats on first comment!! It is hard to be first on Michele's active channel!!
