So, Minnie cheated on Mickey with Mal Tyler, the reason why Mickey can’t play with his other friends is because, Donald and Goofy “oofed” in a car accident, and Pluto “oofed” of old age (maybe because of rabies), Mickey was so “sad” that he tried committing “sewer slide”.
But anything he tried, he just couldn’t “oof” so he walks around the city faking a smile while in shame until he goes “bananas”. / Mickey “oofed” after Really Happy due to rat poison (that was the syringe that fell out of him). The “Sad” Mouse in Smile is different from the “Sad” Mouse we know, the “Sad” Mouse in Smile was from Disney’s original “Sad” Mouse where he smiles so big that his eyes glitch out and literally melt off his face.
