Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Acura RDX, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Curt Trailer Hitch receiver. Before we do that, let's take a minute, check it out and make sure it's going to be right for you. So with these SUVs being really capable, people do a lot of different things with them and so having a hitch back here is going to, you know, let you tow a trailer around or even use an accessory. There are a handful of different hitches available for the RDX and to be honest, they're all pretty much the same, especially you know, in terms of what they're gonna be able to handle and how they're actually gonna sit on the vehicle. So they do sit up nice and tight against the bottom of the bumper.
The biggest difference between 'em is probably just gonna be the finish or the powder coat on the hitch. So the Curt has a gloss black, the Draw-Tite somewhere in the middle and the etrailer hitch actually has a matte black carbide style finish. And just gonna depend on what you think is gonna look the best. Honestly on our particular vehicle, the bottom of the fascia here is painted gloss black. And so I think the Curt makes sense, you know, kind of just like kind of blends in a little bit.
A lot of people do wonder about the hands-free liftgate assist feature and if the hitch is going to interfere with it and somewhat. Some people can get it to work, others can't. I tried for a couple of minutes, couldn't get the hatch to open, but from my understanding in the past other people have figured it out. So maybe you just have to kind of take some practice and find that sweet spot. But regardless, you know you're gonna have to kick your foot to either side of that receiver tube opening.
The hitch is designed to work with all the different submodels of the RDX, whether you have a base model or a loaded one or something in the middle, it'll bolt up into position. This is gonna be a class three hitch, which means it has the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a good thing 'cause this is a super common size. A lot of stuff will work with it. It is going to use that standard five eighths pen. Keep in mind a pen and clip doesn't come included.
If you need one, not a big deal, grab it here at etrailer. A lot of times if you end up buying a new accessory they'll come with one. So just something to look out for. The safety chain openings are gonna be a plate style and even though they're little on the small side, you shouldn't really run into any issues with the size of hook that might be on your trailer. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, it's gonna have a 350 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating, which is the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's good for those one to three, maybe four bike racks just depending on how heavy everything is. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds or the amount of weight pulling on the hitch. So that is the weight of your trailer plus anything you might have in or on it. I do always like to recommend though never a bad idea just to grab your Acura's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your SUV can handle that much weight safely. We'll go ahead and grab a couple measurements now and these will help us figure out what type of accessories will work best. So if you go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, taking the lift that we're on into account, that's gonna be about 15 inches. So pretty good ground clearance and you should be able to use a ball mount that has a straight shank if you're pulling a trailer or you know a straight shank, a bike rack or other accessory would be fine as well. And the center of the hitch pin hole is going to be pretty much even with our back bumper. So that's excellent clearance and you shouldn't run into any issues if you happen to have folding accessories. Being able to storm 'em upright and not having to worry about it hitting the back of your Acura. Other than that, at the end of the day, a great all around hitch, you know it's going to be able to handle just about anything you throw at it and look pretty good as far as the installation goes, these are really straightforward. Essentially you just lift the hitch up into place and bolt it right in. So shouldn't run into too many issues or take up a bunch of your time. But with that said, why don't we go ahead and get started on it now. To begin our installation we're gonna be underneath the back of our RDX and if you happen to have a spare tire under here, you can go ahead and t

Are you looking for a bike rack too, or something else? To be honest with a 2" hitch like this, there aren't a lot of racks that WON'T work. Just about anything in our selection would work great - it really just comes down to what you're needing (type of bikes, how many, weight, etc). www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Hitch_Bike_Racks-sz-Fits_2_Inch_Hitch.aspx
