I remember 2142 having ads but didn't remember them being so diverse in what appeared. Then again, I always struggled to get into 2142 because the EA Master Server would always go down
If they aren't intrusive, in-game ads are fine. A billboard here or there isn't a deal-breaker as long as the ad itself doesn't promote something that has no place whatsoever being promoted in a game.
If they go the youtube route of implementing ads tho... that's when the first mod to be posted will be an ad-blocker.
I agree with this. In-game advertising should just be product placement and in-game billboards, if done well they can actually make their games more immersive but we all know this isn't what's going to happen.
Valve also used to advertise their other games during the early 2000s in Counter-Strike 1.6

Nice video, I remember the origins, believe it or not, when beta of new counter strike was released in 2003 they put these so called billboards advertising upcoming half life games or other valve games.

it's just the first title in which i went "wait a second... is that an ad for an actually purchasable product?" back when i was like, 12yo or something.
If running ads in-game like these in the past in favor of getting rid of the silly micro-transactions
Personally, I see it as a win cause not only we gonna get more optimized games since more developers move from making those micro transactions to develop the real game but also keeping the games in their lifetime as authentic to its title

These are two different things in my opinion.
What you are talking about is product placement.
I think they are talking about literal ads instead of like loading screens and such.
well we don't know what they're talking about either so until they tell us we an only speculate.
bruh i couldnt care less. id love mcdonalds camo on my RM68.... we had mcdonalds and burger king in need for speed, we have real life brands in need for speed til this day. WHAT we dont have is IRL brands like weapon producers in the games. i see this as a chance.
