This looks simple- but haha!, you cannot just slap dash through. Oh no! In true Jane style, there are so many details, twists and turns! This is why Jane’s paintings are my favorites. You must pay attention to every detail. This is not to say they are too hard too attempt, it is to say she will expand your skills every time. Her teaching is marvelous.

how lucky was that i,m just back from a fortnight in sunny Spain doing a couple of paintings from my holiday struggling with a fan brush and there you are with a great technique doing pine needles which will suit me real well for my palm tree leaves

That's a cool,way to use matte medium.
I always have blended it into the paint before putting it on brush -- your technique makes a lot more sense and gives better control over the blending!
