This passage was the biggest plot twist for me. I didnt realize until reviewing it, paragraph 1 and 2 specifically, that the author was a formalist critic themself the whole time.
dude thank you so much for taking us through your though process during the passage. When I first read this and did the questions I think I only got 3 right, but after your breakdown I paused the video before each question and was able to get all but 1 correct. I think that this goes to show the importance of understanding the passage on the first readthrough since I barely spent 20 seconds on each question after understanding them from your initial breakdown. When I was first reading this I definitely didn't know what the hell was going on and if I sacrificed more time to reading then I think I would have more efficiently used my time then sloppily stumbling over questions that I didn't understand.
I really really appriciate what you share here! thank you so much!! you are saving us from so much anxiety and money on tutors, I really hope you get the good karma from helping us so much
Unfortunately due to copyright laws, we can only make videos off the Sample Test ( we weren’t aware of that law when this video was made), so the Sample Test is our main focus as of now!
Thank you so much for the explaination and the way of thinking through this passage. I'm still a bit confused on how to approach the CARS section when it comes to interpretation of what the passage is saying to what the questioons are truly asking of me. I have watched you tips on how to do better on CARS, yet I am still finding myself not making much of an improvement in my understanding of the passage and questions. Do you have any advice for this situation?
This was so helpful!! Regarding formulating the main idea, during the actual exam do you still recommend creating and writing down the main idea? or just have a mental note of it? (Because as I do practice passages, and then go on to write a MI, I take longer trying to write a concise and well worded main idea)
Kinda the same idea as flowcharting. Me and John both actually wrote down our MIs in our tests. The only time I’d skip that step is if I was really behind, but with practice I just got fast enough at reading that I could write down my MI, and that helped me go through questions faster too. So by the time I sat for my test, I didn’t skip that step
Any advice on how to follow this method + increasing speed? If I spend 38 minutes per passage I can easily answer every question…it’s a different story if I have 9 minutes 🙃
Got all but one of these answers correct. I got destroyed on FL 5 cars tho with a 124. All my others have been better. Best way to approach cars is with a very rigid and objective approach because if not u will overthink every ?
Totally agree, gotta have an algorithmic approach and know that even though passages are technically subjective, they want you to get to one conclusion that outshines the rest! Glad you’re improving:-)
This was phenomenal. I just completed this passage and was so lost. One thing I noticed, however, is that I understood this passage much better after reading it a second time (untimed). I think the timing gets to me and my brain “shuts down” when reading a CARS passage. How can I read and understand the main idea the first time, while ensuring I am doing so in a timely way?

Hi! I'm not sure if these comments are still being monitored. But, I was wondering how one could decipher that the author was being sarcastic in the first few paragraphs. To me, it seemed like they did not like formalist criticism. I was unable to sense the sarcasm. I'd love for tips to avoid this in the future!

I think I'm finally starting to understand the trickiest questions they ask. thanks!

This is great! Can you please do more of the AAMC QPack questions. Not ready yet for the Sample FL and want more practice with this.

Any updates on your guys tutor service? Recently found your guys channel and like the breakdowns!
Why do the AAMC passages seem easier than Jack Westin ones?
Would you guys say "cannot" be an absoult word as well? Last question

TLDR; I have a hard time thinking about what I should be thinking while reading a CARS passage. The main idea is initially NEVER clear to me.
I got a 32 on ACT reading. I know how to read…at least I thought I did 😭😭😭

I completely misunderstood this passage but only missed one.😂 I also thought I understood the passage when reading it.
