My favorite aunt had a 65 Comet Caliente, white with a red interior. Oh how I loved that car. Always been a Comet fan … and I completely agree with you on stacked headlights. Just love em!
Very few performance cars sold which so obviously encouraged their drivers to put them to the test, which is why it's so hard to find a nice one today. They're all beat, which is a tribute to the car.
My big brother tried to buy a new 65 Mustang but the waiting list was too long so he bought a new 65 red on red Cyclone with the 289 and 4 speed manual. I was a little kid then but I’ll never forget what a gorgeous car it was! I never knew those wheels were stainless steel.
Your brother made a good choice. I have a 65 Caliente hardtop. I never knew about the hubcaps either. I just assumed they were chrome plated plastic like most other hubcaps. Now I want to go find a set.
@@Racoldgin Yeah, my idiot brother wrecked his Comet in the first year he bought it! I can see why one might assume that today, but I don’t think anyone made plastic wheel covers back then, did they?
I almost bought a 66 comet cyclone a few years ago but I wasn't fast enough getting back to the seller! Looked to be in excellent shape. You snooze you lose!
One important safety upgrade that should be done if it's going to be a driver is to replace that single-cup master cylinder. With only a single cup for all 4 wheels, if you lose one corner, they're all gone. Ask me how I know... it's the reason I no longer have mine.
That's funny: That car used to be local to me, but I don't remember doing the brake lines on it... Got one or two just like those on my Dentside F150. Now that I have a flare kit, I should cut to length and reflare... I love those chrome reverse wheel-looking wheel covers!! No HiPo is odd - I'm pretty sure you could get it in the Fairlane that year! Is that a Mustang GT gauge cluster on there?
I have one in Polar white with red interior in the UK. Its probably the only 65 Cyclone over here. I must say I prefer the 64 front end and the 65 rear end.

Boy sweet ,I would love to have that comet in my garage with my other toys .awesome car good job .
I remember seeing this car at the Indiana Shelby Spring Fling a few times back in the day. Now I know why I don't see it anymore.
Thanks for featuring my uncle's car. It's a beautiful car. Proud of him.
Clicked when I saw the thumbnail. Had a Dark Ocean Turquoise '65 Cyclone from '87- '97. A code, three on the column shift.
I love this car I hope I restore faster my 4 door comet

Ouch.
As always very cool.
A beautiful car
Thx.
I always thought the hi po 271 horse 289 was an option on this Cyclone. Reverbs are great. Always loved that echo sound.
So did I.
Way too cool Mercury 😎
Cool car, would be cool to build one full out with all chassis, suspension, and a big block. 🇺🇸🔥

We agree, but if originality matters it is tough to swap out.
Happened to me in my 4 dr 65 202
great video Campi! I dig the stacked headlight cars as well!
You are a man of impeccable taste!
Very nicely detailed correct restoration. I took 3years restoration on mine.i know what's correct on these cars
Awesome
Thanks so much.

I believe the gauge pod is Cyclone-specific. The Fairlane got it, but was a midsize. Cyclone was “senior compact” based on the Falcon.
I'm a stacked headlight fan as well..65 GTO
Odd the GTO and Cyclone got stacked headlights and hidden taillights in the same year.

That is so cool. I’m partial to the stacked headlights, but the ‘64 nose is pretty sweet.
I always thought the 1965 Merc Cyclone was a take-off of the 1965 Pontiac Tempest/GTO... stacked headlights, and rear-end taillight treatment!
Well, they came out at the same time, so who copied whom?
I want it!!
Me too.
I have same year in black.
Great looking car.
Had a 64 Comet non GT. back in the day to bad I stupidly smashed the whole pass. side of the car! 😞
It happens sometimes.
my brother had one with a 390 2 barrel and a 3 speed.i still remember that factory shifter rattling.
New sub. Awesome car, nice video !
Thank you.
My buddy had one in high school.. I believe it had a 390 in it??? Been almost 50 years..
The 390 came along in ‘66.
