I dont think thats the only problem, the tropes are overused a lot of time. I love romance anime but now all the tropes are something thats already used or even overused. It was pretty exciting at first but as you watch more and more, you'll start to see things like plotholes and things that doesn't make sense which just makes it boring to watch. There are some romance anime even now that are enjoyable but....there's too many of them. Same with shounen but there always uniques element to those stories so people doesn't get bored of it.
Well I do agree that there are a lot of repetive and overused tropes but in this world nothing is original, it is weird for me people try to uniqueness in everything thing they watch, that's just not possible because we'll nothing is original. So how to make a story unique and good, it comes down to when and how to use these tropes and many anime have a very hard time doing that but what can make these tropes unique are the characters, what they are felling, what they want to be, how they want the other person to fell. That is what can make a story better.
