There are tons of other programming channels who don't talk about these stuff, and sometimes this is exactly what you need to hear . Thank you for uploading this Brad ^_^
Brad, I just want to say thank you for all you have been doing. I used to hate everything web design and development, now it's a different story. This goes to show how good of a teacher you are. Keep up the good work.
START.A.PODCAST. Seriously. This is the kind of content that works best as a podcast. I don't need to look at the slides (which look like guides for you) as you speak about this important info. Take a look at anchor app or edit the podcast based on how you already edit you vids. People NEED this type of content. They aren't always on RUclips. You can't always have them concentrate on screen. Turn all these self-development stuff into audio and watch people subscribe. Seriously, what u have already done is what people need when they commute or when they can't watch the videos. I respect it work. Thanks for teaching the community what u know about dev.
Completely agree. Brad could find this challenging as once he's explained why he doesn't like doing stuff on fly, but it could be a great challenge for him to grow as a person. I'd definitely listen to his podcast.
Man, you are great teacher! I'm looking forward to starting new career as a web-developer in the next season, and your videos and udemy courses help me a lot! Thank you and greetings from Ukraine)
Brad, you're the best. This is what I need right now, when motivation gets in the way. I look back as some of the code I written when I was in a motivational swing, and the mindset I have looking at it is like "Woa, what does all this mean?" and I feel like I need to decipher my own code flow to know where I left off. This coding is like excursive, you can get overwhelmed to get motivated, but once you get going, you need to keep up the practice, else you'll feel like you're sliding back... This video is a great primer to reach back to the motivational. One step at a time!
For what its worth Brad, im currently doing my 2nd project in a fullstack course which is making a site using API's, your tutorials have helped so much, and this advice just cleared my head and enabled me to fix something in 5 minutes which was taking hours. When I'm stressed I sometimes switch to making house and techno, but that could go on for hours!! I will give back for sure when back on my feet.
It's always a treat getting to hear your insights into coding life as well as your other videos. Your passion to teach and make it easy for those of us that are coming after you or just need a way to improve their lot comes through and is really appreciated. Wish I could contribute more than by liking your vids and being a small Patreon supporter. You have no idea how much your tutorials have made things click for me. Keep those projects coming, I'm hungry for more.
"Pace yourself and focus on one thing at a time". This was probably the hardest thing for me to learn. Accepting that it's just gonna take a few weeks/month to grasp a new concept before trying to move on to the next thing on my ever-growing "things I need to learn" list.
Brad you are a very good instructor, keep making these kinda awesome videos, I am not doing a CS or software degree, but thanks to you I am updated in web development!! keep up the good work ;)
I have a great job as a front-end developer thanks to you and your great courses. It's probably my first comment ever on a youtube video but I just needed to remind you how many people are getting a better life just because you decided to share your knowledge with the world
Great, thanks and respect. Especially, when you find your self in a similar situation in the past, you've described this in your Self Doubt video, for people who had kind of same experience(I had it too), troubles, addiction, etc - you're making a big deal. Respect to you.
I'm so early :) Thanks Brad i really needed to hear that. Your comments about mental health are even much appreciated cause not really addressed in our field. Thank you so much.
I've just finished college and i decided i want to go the way of becoming a full stack dev. I found your channel and youve been a great help in helping decide what to learn and where to put my attention. Still hella confused though lol. Its definitely overwhelming the amount of information and technology you have to learn about. Keep up the great work!
So much respect for you putting it out there, I'm always happy to refer new devs to your materials! It's awesome that you keep it real and don't candy coat it! Keep it up Brad You Rock!
Very thankful for your videos. it helps people a lot to understand how to live as a programmer and to go well in the programming works and to have a better life.
I am not a professional programmer. Only as a hobbyist, I took up learning C and C++ last year. This month, I am learning Python. Two weeks ago, I have taken up OpenGL, GLSL and WebGL, also Shadertoy. Studying programming is a struggle. To make things easier, I use Google Slides to simplify all my studies of programming. Same with Mood Board and Linoit. I use all those as my scrapbooks, notebooks, cheat sheets, etc. I have been doing that with also animation softwares, those that come with steep learning curves. Two weeks ago, I took up learning OpenGL, Shadertoy, etc. To optimise my learning pace, I take screenshots of worthwhile websites and video tutorials, store them inside Google Slides, attach brief notes and links onto them. Google Slides help me study smarter and faster. Should I ever forget old tutorials, I have only to consult my Google Slides and my memory comes flooding back. Inside, thumbnails act as bookmarks and screenshots as memory triggers. Examples in links below are my Google Slides on OpenGL, Shadertoy, etc. OpenGL docs.google.com/presentation/d/1tObkOXndsQYXuFdeDTP4W4pss20zFPS6IWMHPGBTopA OpenGL in Depth (very recently created) docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Ldb7RtKBqeisiDLy8rgYPmvARswwVbFB74a2qJnkg5w Shadertoy (not long created) docs.google.com/presentation/d/19gVjKa4UXiHWHdE4Tskdjq-niAeCdUbJBxk_5JtDAdw Programming Blender (created yesterday) docs.google.com/presentation/d/1eOmrmizu--Tu0Tol816oUTD2X-9nVaBRGltz76ZssSE
I've been learning programming for 9 years on and off while working full time. I've quit learning programming so many times and then decided to start again. I cant seem to get my head around JavaScript. But this video has helped alot. Thank you. Once I get a job as a developer ill remember what you have said. Thank you for making these videos they are very helpful. Keep em coming!
I want to start my programming career and 70% of my skills comes from your RUclips and Udemy videos. So i just want to say thank you for your time and effort by making these videos.
I love these pep-talk videos. And I was really scared that a time will come, when you will say, tutorials are good, BUT... I am trying to learn as much as I can, before I try doing something on my own... but I keep delaying that for too long... I finish the last two courses and start a project. Promise. The last two course being Angular F to B, and Node.js with Mongo DB :) Cheers man!
Andrei Senseutchi I had the same story some time ago. Do not worry, at some point an idea and motivation will come naturally, just keep going. P.S. Remember that your project does not have to be a LARGE app, a medium-size will do
_Tip for all you programmers out there, beginners and experts:_ get a *Night Filter* on your screen. That shit will save your eyes! *f.lux* is a very popular one. The newest Windows 10 comes with its own integrated Night Filter, just bring up the Action Center (Notifications on your W10 Desktop). On Linux distributions, you can also simply adjust your color temperatures, or create presets and swap between them during the day (Color in Settings, for Ubuntu). I used to have massive headaches after long sessions behind a LED screen, my eyes would turn red and everything. *ADJUST YOUR COLOR TEMPERATURES OR USE A NIGHT FILTER!*
Thanks for the good tips Brad. I've always had hard time with managing my time, but after watching this, I'll try to set clear time lines and work on them.
Hi Brad you have what it takes, you are not only the IT guru but you are a good academician too; you know how to teach. Great works you have out there and they are a lot, I wish i have quarter of you courage and strength. God bless!
From quite a lot of experience on the subjects discussed, I can say this is great advise. Still helpful for me now as a reminder to keep doing the right things.
I think when it comes to having destructive people on your team, it is important to not confront the people that are making your days worse, but utilize the resources that you have at work(HR), talk to your boss or other co-workers and find a solution. If the situation does not get better, you could try to change your own mindet or find a different place to work.
This was a cool video! Thank you very much. I noticed a typo on your last slide "brakes". I make mistakes like this at my job, but after some constructive criticism from my co-worker I have made it a habit to have someone else check my work before publishing it. I suggest you do the same. Getting help from a good friend or your wife saves you from these mistakes and often they cannot help but give little suggestions that can improve your writing.
Thank you for your useful information which is very applicable in many aspects. Recently I started my carier many things I can applay from your tutorial. Have no doubts your efforts will be pay back.
Wow.. Just Wow! I am a young teenager who is learning to code from your vids. I just really like coding from a young age (6yo) and I also create games. Keep up your good work!
21:00 - Running is also great way to keep health and get the stress out of your system. This is what I started to do just recently and really enjoy it. It also help you to better focus on your work and trush out all negative energy when something goes wrong (and it always go wrong at some point). Cost nothing, you can do it on your own or if you prefer with a friend. Don't start from maraton :) ... Start from 1 - 2 km then after few weeks hit 4 then after a two/three month hit 6 km if you really get in to it after 6 months you will hit 10 km without any problems :). My advice.. start from tomorrow :D. There is probably nothing better that you could do for you body.
Thanks, this is very helpful, I suffered like 90% of those problems that you mention in this video. I want to make another hint, that right now is help very helpful to me, I bought an under the desk elliptical bike( pedals ), I burn from 200 to 800 calories a day, also I can not have a standing desk where I work, but I use a bed desk on to of my desk, that is really helpful (for USA people. it can be found at Walmart around $30 or Amazon).
Thanks, a lot Brad, surely this road is hard as hell but with people like you; learn how to code makes sense. Keep it up brother. And if possible please create a video on how to create that custom wallpaper, on mac. Much regards from Tanzania
Dominykas SmoIskis if you are stupid enough to judge a country based on one or two people those who cheated you, then you must deserve that scam. And don’t show your frustration on RUclips because Google’s CEO who’s an Indian will ban your ass from RUclips!
I know what is the problem with health! I had problems with eyes and my neck because of long sitting in front of computer. I even was thinking about leaving my programmer career. You are a very good teacher and a very good human being... what else we can ask for !
Love it!! Totally can relate and useful moving forward. Thanks dude.
Great post! Working as a dev at startup for a year now. Have encountered pretty much everything you’ve stated. :-)
