It’s October of 2024, I’ve watched this video 3x, and my first Sebenza was a unique graphic Large Sebenza 31 in S45VN. I liked it so much that I wanted to be able to carry it, but it was too expensive and too nice to carry everyday for work. So I got another one with the brown micarta inlay in S35VN to carry everyday day at work. It’s been my workhorse for 3 years now. Then recently, I decided to treat myself and got a Small Sebenza 31 with a Magnacut blade and the “plain” glass blasted Ti handle. I’m absolutely in love with these knives and I’ve been a knife guy ever since I got my first Kershaw Blur off the Snap-On guy at my junkyard back in 2004. Red, partially serrated, with the Snap-On logo laser etched into the handle. This channel is what I fall asleep to. It’s educated me so much, but because of YOU, MC, I spend more money on knives than I have on guitars in my 30+ years of playing! I’m not mad. 😊 keep doing what you do MC. Love your videos and all that you do!
I cannot tell you how many times I have watched this video. This is my grail knife. When I graduate from my masters program I think I will pull the trigger. Great video MC!
My grail knife right here. I’m tempted by the micarta scales, especially since they aren’t split scales anymore, but there’s something beautifully pure about the standard model (also the markup for scales is noticeable). I’ve always loved the Sebenza’s beautiful lines, and it’s nice to finally see it upgraded with the Inkosi’s improvements (especially the ceramic ball upgrade and offset pocket clip). The one thing I’d change is to switch the single thumb stud for the Inkosi’s dual thunb studs (apparently a quick, easy, and fairly cheap change). Also have to agree with you about CRKs maintenance policy. I love that they say if you take it apart, then can’t put it together, just put it in a bag and send it too us so we can put it back together for you. That’s just awesome, especially when so brands use disassembly as an excuse to void a warranty (even if the issue is unrelated to you disassembling the knife).
@@markcoffman494 Oh, not even close. I'm honestly not sure I'll ever be in the financial situation for a $500 knife to be a justifiable purchase, but a man can dream right?
@@gpearce11 The first Chris Reeve knife that I actually picked up was the small Inkosi which I couldn’t believe I’d spend that much money on a knife. Now I have my fifth Chris reeve knife coming in. The only reason I bought the second one is because I had a Greg Medford slim praetorian TI in tumbled bronze titanium. Was not really happy with it it’s a great knife but it ergonomically Was not very comfortable and the lock up was a little uncomfortable to disengage. So I ended up selling it and buying a 31. The reasoning the 31 is just perfect I have two small 31 models a plane and a black inlaid Micarta model. I have to say the last one I really want to get is a large inkosi… which surprisingly has been the hardest one to find. I think you should really try to get one. The way I figured it is let’s say you put away $50 every two months you would then be able to afford that by the end of the year.
Thanks M.C. I have been on the fence about buying a Sebenza. Watching your two year old video has convinced me it is time to spend the money and pick one up. The hunt begins!!
I’ve carried a small 21 Insingo for 5 years, beat the shit out of it working in a machine shop and also have used it in the East and western states hunting, field dressing game. I’ve only ever tore it down to clean and oil 3 or 4 times, and it still locks up like a bank vault, with zero blade play. The Sebenza truly is one of those items that a man will never understand until he owns one. The hype is real.
I watching this video, playing with my Sebenza 31 Large ... and Im just moving with my head up and down.... every single word you said sir is a pure truth.
I daily carry and use my large Sebenza 21 with the Ladder Damascus for almost 6 years and it still rocks. I mean the Damascus CRK ones are nore likely to be seen as fragile since that blade is so good looking but from my use, they are epic! Edge retention as good or even better as my S30V on the PM2 and lately I noticed that they are even easier to sharpen than my S30V. Devin Thomas knew what he was doing 👍 Great videos man.
the umnum is the way to go. more options on the way you can hold the blade to get different control on cuts, the umnum has a simpler construction, its easier on your thumbs, and it has the rubber stoppers when you open and close it so you can fidget with it and your wife won't want to strangle you.
I agree with MC, you can't go wrong with any CRK. I have all the above in the replies to your question, and the real question is what will u be using the knife for? That will be the determining factor for what you should get. If u want a tacticool knife, then go with the Umnumzaan. The other nice thing about the Umnumzaan is it has a glass breaker, and can be handy for a paramedic like myself. I would personally go with a Sebenza 21, or 31...they are so elegant, and just about perfect in every way.
In terms of toughness and corrosion resitance ratio, the only competitor i could only think of Sandvik 14C28N, on paper, it should be as tough, as corrosion resistant, but you get less edge retention with half the price
I’ve also hear that Elmax (done well) is apparently also very tough. That said, I’ve seen more hard-use fixed blades in S35VN, which I feel should count for something.
I agree I use the shit out of my zaan and large sebby and I men I USE them and they function phenomenally and get great satisfaction using them each and every time I pick these over my strider smf’s, sng’s, and hinderers.
4 years later. I have acquired the trio of the 31, Inkosi, and Umnumzaan with Magnacut blade everything Complex says is true. And I have the old 21 too.
My large 31 has micarta inlays, is left-handed and is an absolutely solid work knife. Mind you, when my wife wanted to borrow a knife for muddy, tree planting duty, I gave her a Medford On Belay! I’ve the small pj as well, but it’s too plain for me. The screws are hex in 3/64”, which is why it’s really lucky they come in the box. Decent Imperial hex keys are hard to find.

If you could only own just one, and you had to own this, you would not need another Knife. And most people can’t afford it. That’s my humble opinion. I enjoy your channel. Thank you for all your wonderful content.
I don't care what you say! It's not meant to be ... ;-)
i want one , i have the money but the website states it takes 12 months until you receive your knive , i don't want one anymore :(
I know this is really late but you can join knife swap on reddit, I see a sebenza get sold there every day, sometimes multiple a day. They get sold within minutes though so you gotta be watching it closely.
Thanks great review! I'll never understand how or why people concern themselves about up setting others with a knife being " aggressive Looking " as long as it's legal . Wonder where all this PC / wokeness comes from ? Here ya go
The CRK CQI
i want a 31 bad....
I do what I call the "reverse reverse flick" with my 31, which is holding the stud and flicking away the handle with ring finger, then tossing it into the right use position.
A pretty dangerous and ill advised way to deploy a knife but it works.
i keep buying all the 21s i can :)
with the new 31 and impinda, it's clear that Chris is "hand-off" now :(
Aren't we supposed to be getting a stimulus check, just sayin! 🤑
I want one... But can I afford it lol.
I dont flick knives, lots of dumb videos on here about flicking knives.
Spiderco are disgusting looking knives. Ugliest knives ever. Based on that, ill never buy one. Ever.
YES, fucking horrible
I remember saying that too.
@@metal_complex same. I own 7 spydercos now and they're probably my favorite knife company.
@@Puddspanker I don't own any spydercos but theres a CRK video where Chris is being interviewed in his office and there's a Spyderco box on his shelf lol
Way over priced. has already paid for its self
Something that pays for itself is overpriced?
