    Great review as usual, I enjoyed the train ride. I doubt I would ever spend the money for a night train. IMO prices are too expensive for a sleeper if one wants a cabin for him or herself. Some say one saves the cost of an overnight hotel. Most are coming to Europe is to see the sights and that means daylight travel. Some say one saves the cost of an overnight hotel. I have always found reasonable priced hotels, with comfortable beds usually for less than the overnight sleeper. Thanks again for taking me along.

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад +2

      Thanks so much! Usually the most expensive for a sleeping car is the surcharge for solo occupancy. It often depends on the location. For me, the sleeper train was more convenient than the hotel, because I needed to catch another train from Warsaw and I saved time. Thanks for watching :-)

      What?? Man the local population also use Night trains & it's not only for tourists, where did you get that weird idea from? And not all people in Europe are rich like what is portrayed in media so, for them it's economical to use overnight trains.

    Great review! I am happy that RegioJet will start providing service on this route, the current pricing and schedule of this EN connection is really not suitable for our times, 145 euros and 11 hours journey? Who is this addressed to and convenient for? Moreover, the schedule is unconvenient too because it does not allow to catch further morning connections coming from Warsaw and heading to Venice for example, the night train arrives in Wien too late to catch the morning Eurocity from Wien to Venice...and also arriving in Warsaw after 9am is too late for a business city, the traing should get to the destination at 8am the latest...overall, at this time, both flying or driving a car is way more convenient overall..and it's too bad!

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад +3

      Thanks a lot! One of the reasons I chose this route is the future possibility of comparison with RegioJet. Yes, timing of departure / arrival is not the best choice. But this time it came in handy for me to arrive in Warsaw at 9 am. :-)

    • @tjblues01

      Nice points but everybody has their own needs and those needs depends on particular scenarios. For ex. if you have large and heavy luggage, a train might be better suited for you. An overweight charges might bring costs in favour for a train.
      Airports are located on outskirts of cities while a train brings you to the centre. If you are travelling by plane and need to leave at night or late in the evening, you arrive in the middle of the night. Basically your night is ruined. While taking a sleeper train you can still have a decent rest.
      cheers

    Thanks Pete - I rally enjoyed your first sleeper train review 👍 A shame about the hard mattress but tbh I don't sleep very well on trains anyway as the shunting at stations wakes me up. The breakfast was a bit basic but I guess you can't have a WARS restaurant car on an overnight train that leaves so late in the evening.

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад

      Thanks so much Linda! I'm so glad you enjoyed my first night train review. Mattress seemed harder, but I'm skinny (62 Kg / 181cm), so I feel it more than other people :-D Yes, shunting at stations isn't good for sleeping.. it's good to calculate with, for example, on trips to Poland is good to use the long break in Bohumín to fall asleep. WARS has great service, so it's a pity that most night trains don't have a dining car.

You are sure to make me happy !!! You film very well. You express yourself very well. I am very satisfied with your video in all respects. But the most important thing on a night train is to sleep, and you haven't slept well, it's maddening. And when I saw the price you paid at the very end ... I almost had a heart attack !!! Argh !!! All this for an astronomical sum, all these € spent on it ... it doesn't matter whether you are alone or with others, you know !!! I hope you show us a nicer night train soon. Hi.

      Thanks so much! I made night trains as such a farewell to this year's travel season. I still have 2 videos from night trains ready and I plan many more for next year :-) Otherwise this coach wasn't so bad, only the mattress seemed harder, but I'm skinny (62 Kg / 181cm), so I feel it more than other people. As for the price, it is rather average, most of the price (€75) was a surcharge for solo occupancy / single room. Greetings from Prague :-)

    • @louislegrand2865
      @louislegrand2865 2 года назад

      @@PeteBrandy It's a shame that train fanatics always travel alone: why not in groups? with friends? of the family? relationships? unknown but sure people ... It would cut the price in half, you're paying too much for nothing there.
      All that wasted money you could buy for something else.
      Also think of your pleasures as shopping in stores.

    Hauptbahnhof replaced Südbahnhof (south station), allowing that line to become a through station as the previous Süd, nearby, had lines from the East and West terminating at right-angles to each other.
    At this point, I think, Westbahnhof was a main station too, with mainline services split between Süd & West.
    My first visit to Vienna was end of 2013.
    I stayed there for a few nights to have a look round then went to catch the train to Graz to visit some friends.
    I asked at the hotel reception which station I needed for Graz, she informed me that it was Meidling, however, I had seen signs for Hauptbahnhof, so thought I knew better.
    I walked the 2 miles / 3.3 kms to Hauptbahnhof with my heavy luggage only to find a building site !
    The S-Bahn was still operating though, so I caught that to Meidling then onto Graz.

    While the hard bed didn't bother me that much, I noticed that the ride quality on the train and in the Czech section in particularwas absolutely horrendous(I almost got thrown out of my bed multiple times), was i the only one to notice that?
    And also, that the coach wasn't very well noise isolated. I rode the SNCF sleeper and it was smooth and silent.

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад

      The problem with the ride quality on the train isn't in the Czech section, from Břeclav to Ostrava there is a reconstructed line with a speed of 160 km/h. The described problem is in the cross-border section from Bohumín towards Katowice, there are drops of the track caused by mining activities, it also happened to me several times that I almost got thrown out of my bed multiple times.

    Video jako vždy luxusní 👌To WLAB vypadá vcelku pěkně, příjemně mě překvapila skříňka na oblečení (doufám, že něco podobného budou mít ČD v modernizovaných WLABmee z Parsu), pak je tam t, ovšem ten polský design mě tedy moc neoslovil. Osobně mi tam vadí ty strašně světlé barvy a žádné pěkné "dřevo", ty ostré rohy nebo zase ty moc zaoblené rohy oken. Mop v sprcháči jen proto, že je covid a moc náchylné na úklid, to snad nedělá ani JLV. Jinak s tou snídaní se u WARS moc nepředali 😐 Každopádně se těším na další video z paluby nočních vlaků 😀

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад

      Díky moc! Také jsem byl celkem překvapen, hlavně ta skříň je opravdu dobrá. Celkově je kupé i o něco prostornější než Standard ve WLABmz, kde jsem měl problém se vejít s kufrem i v solo provedení.. Na modernizaci WLABmee jsem zvědav, jen mě mrzí, že tam dodělají propojovací dveře mezi kupé, což je asi nejhorší věc u lůžkových vozů (už jsem měl párkrát tu čest mít vedle skupinku a to je opravdu slyšet každé slovo). Jinak co se týče snídaně, opravdu se moc nepředali, ale zas lepší než nic a já stejnak snídám jen sladkosti (JLV na cestě zpět 2 kaiserky, sýr, máslo, džem a tatranka, takže celkem podobné).

      Ahoj, díky moc! Ta sprcha mi ani tak nechyběla, jedna noc se ještě dá, pokud není horko.. na cestě zpět jsem jel ČD lůžkovým a tam jsem měl kupé s koupelnou, tak mi to vynahradilo :-) Jo, to byly časy, když se ještě dala projet republika lůžkovým, myslím, že z Chebu jezdil i přímý lůžkový vůz na Slovensko.. Teď už jezdí jen EN Slovakia do Košic (+ jeden vůz do Varšavy), EN Metropol do Budapešti a jeden vůz do Curychu za jižním expresem, který ale kvůli výlukám skoro celé léto nejel.. Chtělo by to nějaký noční vlak z Prahy směr Hamburk / Brusel / Amsterdam nebo směr Frankfurt.

    Lucky you! I wish I could take this one, but it's so expensive. It's because PKP InterCity is the only carrier that has night long-distance trains, so they can have every kind of prices they want. In the next year, probably we'll have RegioJet's night train, so I hope in the next few years the prices will change.
    Thanks for the report.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, it was quite expensive, but I calculated journey + accommodation, so then it was very comparable or maybe cheaper than with hotel in Vienna. Unfortunately, PKP Intercity had some problem with their reservation system, so I had to buy my ticket via ÖBB. Lovely review really enjoyed it, just a point about the train in today’s modern times you would think that they would be Wi-fi enabled, I love sleeper trains and although basic it’s ok for second class travel, I also think that they might be getting their arm into you sometimes by charging the surcharge as the train didn’t look too crowded and you might have been the only person in the compartment anyway

  • @mtrdjn
    @mtrdjn 2 года назад

    Your first video in the sleeping car of a well-known night train to Warsaw - no worries, it's great, just the way we're used to seeing from your production, but if we compare this trip of yours with the adventure our friend Thibault had, we can say that it was almost boring and with a delay of only 20 minutes. The latter is still a joke, but the mentioned event, as you could see for yourself, is really true. Famous July 17, exactly one day after the tornado struck; can you imagine the array of feelings Thibault had when he saw in Warsaw that the train had no sleeping car. He was then told that there would be some, but only from Katowice, and then there was one longer stop on the open track, the same hard bed and a final delay of 3.5 hours.
    It was interesting for me to notice that you two, in two opposite directions, presented different data on the length of the road, which may have differed in those two routes, given the unusual circumstances from July: he stated 655km, and you 747km. Of course it doesn't matter, it's just cute, because otherwise it would be said that the number of km is the same. It is also interesting that the price of travel in the middle of the high season, in the summer, during July was lower than the autumn price: € 139 vs € 144.9.
    And after a little joke, I claim that it is good to have a night train that directly connects Warsaw with Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Such a formula cannot be simple, but since it travels mostly at night and in sleeping cars, a great deal has really been done as long as this complex train is running.

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад

      Thanks so much! I saw the video from Thibault and I must say that he had a really bad luck that day. But that can unfortunately happen. I was similarly lucky with trains to Slovakia. I'm not sure if the Thibault train had a different route, but my data is based directly on the ÖBB application and for verification I also compared with the Czech Railways application, where the data differed by only 1 km. As for the price, I understand that his ticket was cheaper because I only bought my ticket a week before departure (I was originally supposed to travel to Berlin with the ÖBB Nightjet portion).

    Small nitpick: Did the ticket you bought actually say "2nd class" anywhere? As far as I know, Nightjet doesn't use the 1st/2nd class terminology at all, which is good, as there are so many different "classes" of accomodation that trying to force that into some overall 1st vs 2nd class is misleading. And even if this sleeping car service isn't branded Nightjet (but "Nightjet Partner"), I assume they use the same ticketing conventions? (PKP domestic sleeping cars might be different.)

    • @TangoMikeLima
      @TangoMikeLima 2 года назад

      According to some traditional (pre-Nightjet) conventions, booking a sleeper compartment for solo occupancy ("single") required a 1st class ticket. Yes, the exact same compartment required a first-class ticket (for the transportation) in order for you to be able to buy a reservation for it with single occupancy. (In those days no compartments had en-suite shower and toilet.) So according to such conventions, this would have been a 1st class compartment...
      In those days, if you didn't book single occupancy but nobody else booked a berth in the same compartment, you got "1st class" without extra charge, with a 2nd class ticket...

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 года назад +1

      Although the Nightjet partner (bought through ÖBB) was mentioned on the ticket, the Warsaw portion with PKP coaches was officially EuroNight train. Now I have checked my ticket and I have written here: "Klasse: 2". Usually is used for this type of sleeping cars distinction of travel classes Standard and Deluxe (compartment with private bathroom). Otherwise in the reservation system the selection was divided into Compartment with 1, 2 or 3-bed and Compartment deluxe with 1 or 2-bed.
      In the descripton of this video, I used the class designation for the 1st and 2nd class according to the WLAB10mnouz cars specification.

    • @mancubwwa
      @mancubwwa 2 года назад

      For domestic night trains in Poland you get sort of two-part ticket. The first part is a base 2nd class ticket, with price identical to a 2nd class seat on the same route based on the distance covered and subject to various promotions and discounts, and "additional/reservation ticket" which is a flat fare depending on a type of compartment you chose (6 bed couchette, 4/3 bed couchette, 3 bed sleeper, 2 bed sleeper, solo sleeper. Note that 3 bed couchettes are actually older "downgraded" sleeper cars, and today PKP IC offers bedsheets on couchettes, so the only difference between 3 bed sleeper and 3 bed couchette is that couchettes are not gender-separated, there is no complimentary breakfest and the sink is probably not working. And price). I don't think ensuite compartments are available on domestic trains. Also this creates a paradox, where on longest train journeys 1st class seats (yes, they can have those) may cost as much as a couchette. But Chopin is weird and uses non-standard pricing.
