    Hey Guys,
Since producing this video, Mercedes-Benz have announced that the UK will be getting:
    EQA 300
    - Power: 228hp
    - Torque: 390nm
    - 0-60 mph in 7.7 sec
    EQA 350 4MATIC
    - Power: 296hp
    - Torque: 520nm
    - 0-60 mph in 6.0 sec
    I know which one I want! 🤓

HI Nick - just a quick update given you were kind enough to give me some valuable perspective - I had my test drive with the EQA yesterday. It was the Sport basic model - I took it out mainly around London (not just main roads but also small side with lots of irregularities and bumps), the motorway and a couple of B Roads. Main objective was to test what I mentioned in my earlier message -

    • @npoleary

Ah perfect! How did you find it? Did you enjoy it?

    • @zuppy777
      @zuppy777 3 года назад

@@npoleary Main objective was to test a few concerns I had (1) lack of control on b roads / mixed roads due to weight and especially if you use 19 or 20 tyres (2) suspensions - very bad on irregular roads (3) a lot of rolling over of the front wheels when you push from stop / at traffic light - re: (1) I felt very much in control when I was driving more sporty / dynamically on the b roads ..... you feel a bit but if you are an experienced and balanced driver it shouldn't be an issue whatsoever .... more of a problem for somebody with a different driving attitude (2) suspensions were perfect - didnt recognise whatsoever the negative comments from others about this (3) again as for (1) ... if you pretend to be a F1 race driver yes they roll but even in the city at traffic lights it takes little for the car to be responsive and much quicker than the others without any rolling - it is a question of how you manage the pedal. In addition to all of these, i found the rest of the car extremely pleasant and of extremely high quality build and I might go for it after having tried other electrics which didnt impress me regardless the 5* of certain publications (see ID3 ; Tesla M3). Nick - a couple of last questions for you - I am planning to go for the AMG w/ Premium package + driver assistance - the only concern I have is that the tyres have to be 19 and I am afraid it might make the car stiffer / less controllable as well - any views ? As importantly, being a first time Mercedes buyer I would be grateful for any advice in terms of (a) Assistance Package (take it or not ? are there different levels and what do you recommend ?), (b) Roadside assistance (it comes with the car I understand ? 3 years ? you mentioned you are able to extend it for free for another 27 years or I misunderstood completely ???!!), (c) MercedesMe Charging Station Subscription (how long are you covered ?); (d) any other item I should negotiate / ask the dealer to include which is beneficial ? or areas I should make sure they include and that are in the small print ? - many thanks as ever !

Your videos are worth your weight in gold, Nick! One suggestion: tell your fans that the EQA has a huge battery buffer, that is why the 66 kwh rating is confusing. The actual capacity is near 80 kwh. What about a video on the advantages of having a car with a large battery buffer? And, why don't most competitors have large buffers? Interesting stuff!

Thanks Nick for the very informative review of the EQA 250. I took a test drive just yesterday of the AMG version of this car and was really impressed! The only real negative point for me was the sitting position in the back seat. Your knees are positioned way too high for my liking and would be difficult, in my opinion, for an adult to sit back there on a longer drive! But, I would be sitting behind the steering wheel so no problem for me:-). This car is definitely on my short list!

    Hi Nick
    Really useful video.
I have just traded in my GLA250e for a EQA 250 + and agree with what you say. I have the premium model so I have the extras like phone charging. I was also able to get one with the driving assistance package so to use your phrase the car is awesome.
A couple of tips I have set mine up to remind me to switch to ECO when starting. The performance ore than adequate. The model also allows you to switch on climate control from key fob. Brilliant as it puts on the heating and heated seats for 5 mins when you unlock.
Another tip leave the cable storage bag at home and by placing the connectors in the deeper bit there is plenty of room under the floor for the cable and all the other safety kit.
I loved the GLA 250e but so far I think the EQA is going to work out great for me too
Finally I noticed the raised rear floor, however I agree that given the compact size of the car it is not really an issue.
Keep up the good work I continue to find your videos helpful and even said that to the sales team at my own garage of Mercedes of Bath.

Amazing little SUV! 🙂👌 I will be seeing a lot of these when they go on sale and people buy...like the GLA. A very good buy that I would recommend. 🙂😍 There is a version with a very high range and power coming. Over 500KM WLTP of range, if I recall. I am also excited to see the EQS coming on the 15th of April 2021. 👌💖
What I do not get is why people harp so much on 0 to 100KM times. Like, I have seen people base their entire buying decisions on it...when buying a car not even meant for performance like this car. And in what case do people, when driving in the real world, launch from ZERO to one-hundred? Never. More like thirty to sixty kilometers. Very silly, but it is their money, so whatever. I would base my buying decision on so many things like comfort, quietness, technology, practicality, and so on. The entire package. That's just me, I suppose. 😅
    Great review, Nick. 👌

    Drove this car recently.
EQA AMG 250. Didn't feel I was driving a premium car worth 50k. Looks ordinary from outside and inside. I guess I will wait for atleast 2 to 3 years to have much better range and value for money.
The batteries will change enormously and you will be left with this car with terrible resale value.
No one could answer what happens when it's time to replace the battery.
In the meantime plugin hybrids and full hybrids are offering much better range and value for money.
If you must buy this car then I suggest lease it for 3 years and go for a better option afterwards.

Hey Sam, yes it’s purely to let you know that the engine / electric motor is on (depending on the car you have).

E.g, I leave it out overnight with 202 Miles left, switch on in the morning with 198 miles left, drive about 2.5 miles with heating on full blast, then I am down to 189 Miles. Is that Normal for eqa or there are settings I need to know about.?
    Any help would be appreciated

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 года назад +1

Hey E.k Neverson, yes of course absolutely normal for an all-electric car 🤓
Just note that you should only need to refer to the range indicator if you’re travelling some distance and even then, I’d just use your Sat Nav.
The biggest factors of your range are driving (traffic, driving style, mode etc) but also using your heating.
Also factor in that as the cold weather approaches, your range indicator will go down as it is an adaptive figure. It will always change and try and give you an accurate reading based on how it’s been driven before, modes used, traffic, ambient temperature & temperature of the cabin.
Using your heating will decrease the range which is why pre-heating it while it’s plugged in allows the car to use the power of the mains before setting off.
      Hope that helps!

With MBUX and seat positions, in the UK, most of the time MBUX stores 3 seat positions on one profile. Load up another profile and then there’s another 3, and then another profile there’s another 3 etc via the buttons on the door.
I know this can vary from country to country though so best to just give it a shot and see how it works on yours as it could be different to here.

Hi Nick, thanks for an impressive channel. Hope you can help or make a video about this tropic regarding the sign recognition in EQA. How and when will the sign recognition be updated ?
I have discovered that, the municipality has previously reduced the speed limit in the city from 60 km/h to 50 km/h by removing 60 km signs. But these stretches, old and new, "recognize" the car as 60 km/h, even if the signs have been removed. Any knowledge on how to fix this?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 года назад

Hey John, thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!
It depends on the tech fitted to the car, some Mercedes models have Speed Limit Assist where as some have Traffic Sign Assist.
Speed Limit Assist is Sat Nav data, so that gets updated whenever the Sat Nav next has an update.
Traffic Sign Assist is a specially designed camera that can read Traffic Signs (speed limit signs) and show them on the instrument cluster too. It does use Sat Nav data too so this will probably get updated when map updates roll out.

I am very tempted to go and buy the eqa but reading multiple reviews in all languages (:)) I wanted your opinion on a few issues mentioned by many (1) lack of control on b roads / mixed roads due to weight and especially if you use 19 or 20 tyres (2) suspensions - very bad on irregular roads (3) a lot of rolling over of the front wheels when you push from stop / at traffic light - (1) makes very worried ; would buying an AWD version help on (1) and (3) ? Many thanks in advance for your thoughts - Stefano

      Hey Zuppy777,
Ah yes now you will always get different views from different videos online and in reality, it solely depends who is talking on camera.
Some reviewers may be comparing cars to sports cars as that’s what they drive day in and day out and will of course have their own views on handling capabilities.
For me, my area of expertise is with Mercedes, so all of my videos will be solely Mercedes related and comparisons are primarily between other Mercedes models.
For the EQA the drive is very very smooth, I didn’t notice the weight too much when taking a corner hard, but as with all EV’s, they weigh more due to the high voltage batteries on board, they are placed as low as possible to keep the centre of gravity low.
In reality, views expressed on RUclips are our own, but best thing I would give it a go yourself! 🤓 they are great fun to drive and I’d buy one in a heartbeat! Probably the 4MATIC version though, it rains a lot here in the UK…😅😅

Hey zuppy777, that could be right. Really sorry I don’t get to see the availability of cars directly. But I have heard this can be the case, in most cases the Driving Assistance Package is a factory order, very few cars come through in stock with that fitted.
There are also delays with all car manufacturers at the moment due to parts availability which will more than likely be affecting the time too.
If you do go for one, it’ll be worth it, the driving Assistance Package is amazing with what it can do!

Nick mentioned 7,4kW AC charger, but atleast in Finland it’s 11kW AC charger as standard in EQA, so seems to be country specific. 22kW AC would have been even better, many public chargers offers 22kW rate here, but no DC fast charging. My A250e get’s only 7,4kW AC from 22kW AC charger, hence faster internal AC would be better. So wish to Mercedes to add 22kW AC to option list in all EQ models.

Hey Steve, well it’s all down to you to be honest. There’s lots of things to consider with an all-electric from charging and range etc and of course the slightly smaller chassis compared to a GLC.
So if you’re thinking of going Electric, are you able to charge at home? This is the ideal option with off-road parking and waking up every day with a full charge (just like your phone).
Another important factor are the journeys you do, how many of them per week or per month are over 200 miles. If 90% of them are under 200 miles, you’ll very rarely use public charging as you’ll just charge at home.

This grant is applied for by the chargepoint installation company and is usually in most cases £350 toward the cost.
Most installations will then cost around £500 to £600 with the grant included so pretty good to future proof your house.

However, if I've interpreted the stats correctly i.e. start of charge 89% to 100% in 10 minutes. I'll be sticking with my C220d that takes around 2 mins to fill (and that seems like an eternity). It would also take me from Poole to Liverpool back to Poole and back to Liverpool easily on one tank (Comfort mode). I appreciate the cost of a full charge is significantly cheaper but who wants to hang around for nearly a hour and a half to 'fill up'.

The gap is rather big and with the same money you can buy a huge amount of gas or diesel. Furthermore I found rather optimistic to assume that starting from 2030 all cars sold shall be electric - unless in the meantime there will be a real revolution about batteries (cost and duration), retail prices of cars, availability of charging points, etc., which at the moment seem rather unlikely.

Nice at the moment to get a full charge for around give or take £16....BUT I bet when a lot more people buy EV cars the price of charging will sky rocket to the equivalent of a petrol or diesel fill....the average cost of that is £60 - £70 for a SUV...it's gonna happen believe me !!!

It won’t sky rocket at home 🤓
This is usually the cheapest place to charge, of course prices will probably increase but can you imagine paying 3x what you pay at the moment for electricity at home? I doubt / hope that doesn’t happen!

@@npoleary We will have to wait & see on that one Nick..I don't know if you have noticed but over the last ten years utility bills have doubled there's my case in point.

How can you not mention the total lag of leg rest on in the back seat?
In my mind Mercedes have ruined a great car - at least if you plan to use the back seats.
