I'm seeing these trucks occassionally here in PA. I've been checking out the various mini truck channels... big fun. So far, the Bongo is the winner for me... the bigger motor and bed...
That's my idea of a truck. It's small enough that you can drive it anywhere, but it's durable enough to handle just about any job you want to use it for. :)
Had an earlier version of the Bongo van in Bermuda. 1800cc stick 5 speed, sat 8 adults, no air, no power steering, no power windows but came with an equaliser for the stereo, tach on the dash, power mirror passenger side, seats folded couls take a sheet of plywood. For a 1988 vehicle really nice, had it for 18 years.
Well being American made trucks are no longer regular cab in their small / midsized pickups i would be interested in one . I really like what they did with the bed that can come in really handy .
In the late 80’s/early 90’s these types of little truck we’re everywhere in the U.K. If you built up a good head of speed, with nothing in the back, and then slammed the brakes, you could get them to lift the back wheels up. They became unpopular because of stories of them that actually flipped over. I don’t think they ever did (we tried it with a Subaru sumo) but it was enough to ruin the market for them
I found this video looking for info on the Kia. You can get the Kia in a 4x4 dual cab that is left hand drive in Korea. I am surprised that we have not seen these imported to Canada yet.
this is the one I need here in texas but it has to be 25 years old. but this one is fast enough I can drive it to the lake and even pull my little boat with me. with the exception of about 20 miles the speed limit is 65 mph of slower. and that one held 65 mph with no trouble.

Great little truck, a bit of weight in the box and she'll crawl through anything, with'in reason lol. I live in Nova Scotia, do you know if there is a importer/ dealer in the maritimes ? You seem to be giving a fair assessment of these vehicles and honest chap, it would be a hell of a number to have one shipped to the NS from Alberta, freight would be more than the cost of a vehicle. I have a smaller Daihatsu, bought it not running locally from a guy. He got it from Carson Imports in Halifax, there's another dealer up there now I'm noticing on Kijiji that always seems to have a few in stock and may be able to get you one of these bigger ones.
Carson Exports in Dartmouth still imports these. Fyi, Acadia University has a fleet of Japanese mini trucks - their maintenace department has used them for several years now.
try to find a guy local to you and check it out. keep in mind registering them is easier in canada, we only have to wait 15 years to import them vs the states is 25? i think.
Honestly I don't think you would. These trucks are all made for the Japanese market and therefore the average Japanese person... We typically see over 6' tall be pretty cramped. I am told the new Suzuki DA16 trucks have much more room but we won't be able to get those in Canada for quite a few years yet
Saw your "Q" Jesse, (sorry don't look at the date), nope. You probably should stick with F-series or other domestic brand. My baby brother is about your size, and he didn't like my former Toyotas. I've been looking for a mini truck the same way I look for vehicles. I end up finding weird sites that focus more on dealers than individual buyers. It's really confusing. I just want a mini truck and not a expensive cart. Do I have to buy a vehicle and pay someone to convert it to a mini truck? (It feels like it because I don't know how to approach it other than calling a number because I don't want to buy one yet, I want to approach when I need one.)

What kind of Trailing will this Lil' Truck pull behind it, the GVWR Rating? Also does these have front and rear Locker's in 4 wheel drive? Also how bout Lift Beds on them. What kind of units power the lifts IF so equipped? IS there a place I can see or look up measurements on these too?
Hi and thanks for subscribing. So there is no real tow rating on these trucks that we know of. They do not even come with hitches. If we go by some comparative experience and considering that these trucks are only 1600lbs and 50hp I would say 1500lbs towing is probably reasonable for off road. Most 4x4 do not have lockers. Very few in most brands have a rear diff lock and even fewer in select brands have a front diff lock. These are more utility then rock crawler. The dump bed models are mostly electric over hydraulic, with a few being PTO dumps that use a transmission mounted pump. There is no real collection of information unfortunately, you basically have to scour the internet. The best info comes from the manufacturer pages and archives if you can find them.
On this size of a truck you it would have to be at least 25 years old to get it into the country. It doesn't classify as a true "mini truck" by US standards
You can import it as a strictly off road vehicle if it's less than 25 years old. So don't try to pull a fast one and try to register it for road use or Customs will come and seize your truck.

I read an article about why Japan likes English name badges on cars, basically because it's fashionable, but I would think for dash warning lights, controls etc it would make a lot more sense for it to be in Japanese! We hav a few hear in south Mississippi that are left hand drive with automatic. A few have the diesel engines. They were ordered separate and installed.

These vehicles remind me of the old 1960s erra FC 150 1/2 ton and the FC 170 3/4 ton trucks. Real work horses.

I've been wanting to get the little Kia Bongo 4x4 for quite awhile now.

Yes it was done by the same shop that did the box and headache rack. They use Gard-it box liner

They were available with a 2.2L Diesel yes. Crew cab not really... There is a "Bongo Brawny" in crew cab but its a bit of a different model

No, this is already a pretty heavy duty full ladder frame truck and just like in North America all Honda's vehicles are car based.

Honda acty is the Honda alternative, same as Bedford rascal, suzuki carry and mazda bongo etc
This Mazda Bongo is huge compared to a Honda Acty and Suzuki Carry.

Danny Allen I’ve seen a few of them in South Korea modified in to town trucks as left hand drive. Not to be confused with bongo trucks.
lhd does exist I think, just rhd is much easier to find.
