This is why I keep coming back to your channel FWC; because you find beautiful watches to work on. These JlC movements are simply stunning, the perlage and Geneve stripes! Like you say bumpers are special and feel strange on the wrist - I have a few but you get used to it
Thank you for this video on a truly beautiful watch. It is a pity that you cannot see the gorgeous movement through the back of the case as it really deserves full view. Sometimes I envy watchmakers because they get to see what treasures lie hidden in a watch.
The Calibre 476 was the first automatic movement from Jaeger-LeCoultre. Introduced in 1946, the Calibre 476 came 20 years after John Harwood and Blancpain presented the first automatic wristwatch and 15 years after the Rolex “Perpetual” went into production. It was a bumper movement, not a 360º rotor as in today's watches, but it boasted a respectable 40 hour power reserve and was accurate enough to be certified a chronometer in later years. It ran at 18,000 vph. The 476 was the basis for the 1948 JLC 481, the first from the company with a power reserve indicator. Note that Cal. 476 is often stamped “12A”, leading to confusion about the naming of this movement.
Beautiful pearlage and striping! Who would have thought to drill a hole through the dial and main plate? I guess dial dots were not available when the repair was made! Once the plates are cleaned do you ever think of adding black ink to the plate inscription as it was originally marked? Excellent choice on the blued second hand! Interesting that one spring is attached to the bumper weight and not at the stop on the plate as is the other one. T hanks for posting this beautiful restoration / repair.
I never see RUclipsrs show the watch in different positions on the time graph. It would be nice to see how it does in positions that it would normally be on the wrist and not just the dial up position.
If i may ask you, how is the name of this type of automatic movement? Bumper perhaps? Thank you. I admire you for your skills on watch restoring. I m only a classic watches lover.
A movement from a time when the engineering came first and not the price point. 50 years from now someone is going to work on a modern Rolex movement and they'll have to replace most of it.
These Jaeger LeCoultre watches are always a thing to marvel at. So complicated.
JLC makes great calibers

It is true that vintage watches don't have see through case back. It us a shame because a lot of vintage calibers are so beautiful
Gorgeous.
Thank you! Cheers!

My thoughts exactly
I have this same similar watch but also has a state of wind display.
It is a great watch
Was nice a OPEN back
''WOW'' ‼️®️™️
👍
Lovely
Thank you
What a beauty! We’re the springs on the bumper correct? Looked like one was askew and the other was attached to the rotor. Just looked odd.
Yes one is on the rotor and one on the mainplate. It depends on the caliber but the spring can be in different places
i have a cal 481 that needs a new mainspring, i gotta get this fixed someday
That is not too bad to do
beatiful JLC vintage mvt....wow, fitting the dial by putting a screw through it???? what was the owner thinkin'
Yes it is crazy
I never see RUclipsrs show the watch in different positions on the time graph. It would be nice to see how it does in positions that it would normally be on the wrist and not just the dial up position.
Ok I will have a look to do it differently
If i may ask you, how is the name of this type of automatic movement? Bumper perhaps? Thank you. I admire you for your skills on watch restoring. I m only a classic watches lover.
Yes it is called a bumper movement

This was a solid gold case. Why did you not polish it?
It was not solid gold and the owner did not want to have the case polished
What is the partnumber on the horotec stick tool thing?
26.009
Almost a shame to close the case and hide the movement.
Best of luck with the sales and service website.
Yes it is so nice this movement. Thank you for the website
