@skillcapped how do I use this strategy on riven because I’m short ranged and can’t poke them very easily?
You lost kite a lot by not taking the plate and matching TP and you may not be able to push a double wave (in this case you could), but even if that's the case I think is just better to let it crash into your tower, so the enemy loses 2 full waves, no matter if you lose 1 when you back.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think yours was the best play possible in those 2 cases.
It would be nice to see some of the skillcapped users using these techniques in their own Elo instead of a challenger in low Elo, which usually goes well. This way we could perhaps see some things go wrong and see lower rank people actually make use of the tricks.
Noted 😉
But if they use it in their elo, it wouldn't be a low elo guide.
Like a low elo adc would not know how to out space you so you can use a technique you learned here meanwhile said technique wouldn't work with a masters adc that can outspace you
He said at the beginning that 96% is platinum or below. I'm pretty low elo and I can say confidently that I won't understand the difference between them playing challenger or gold. The point of these is to understand the strategy anyways.
@@skillcapped I spipped a few part, but im pretty sure there wasnt the answere to a question i have: Is there a counter strategy if the enemy uses this technik? You said a few times that the right thing to do was to take the L and recall. But this means either way you are gonna lose and the lad get wider. Is there no counter startegy or do i just hope that either the jungle gets a good gank on my lane, or do i just hope that everyone else is carryng the game?
Also what about Adc's? Does this strategy also works for Bot lane with two players?
@@tntjrock3197this is not a guide on how to win lane, the counter to this strategy is to not be in a losing position in the first place. Your opponents will usually not be skilled enough to know how to properly execute this stategy so you understanding this fully will allow you to see how they are failing to punish you and use that to your advantage in your situation.
Love this technique. I use it all the time by dipping into fog of war, causing my opponent to hard shove the lane. This lets me safely last hit under tower.
as a former kassadin otp i used to do this all the time
Is there a video on countering this?
@@Beardsnack Play better, be ahead. Idk if this is a "technique" it feels like this is basically playing smart^^ xd
@@Beardsnack Literally just don't trade poorly is the counter
Yall really just told him "git gud" 🤦♂️
This is actually amazing. I wish more middles in my ranked games were aware of this. Honestly I always felt that pushing out middle had its advantage but now I know why, this video explained it perfectly.
Another good tip for anyone about to hop into ranked and try this is if it happens to YOU, as some low elo players will inadvertently do this (I.e you suck against Yasuo and he won’t stop fighting and pushing your lane in) is to learn to lose lane gracefully. If they keep pushing you in and you’re too low to do anything, just recall. You will lose minions, they will back and be a half item ahead. It sucks. But it’s better to admit defeat and try to prevent things from snowballing out of hand. Make sure to spam ping both lanes (make sure your ping is on your teamates, not your lane) the missing ping and the enemy to let them know that he could be roaming, since he will likely take your tower first. You might get flamed but it’s a lot better to go 0/1 and lose your tower than to start running it down mid to try and keep the enemy from roaming.
7:20 him recalling with neekos clone was so cold 🥶🧊
The best video i have ever encounter, big big thank you for this, you did a hell great job. I'm currently struggling climbing in gold, very often not able to use my advantage and carry whole team - highly frustrated being for example 8:2 with massive cs lead and not win. Sometimes you just cant carry it if you have 2 - 3 apes in team since I'm not challenger, but there is many many cases where i felt i failed to carry when i was suppose to. I'm absolutely sure this will help me a LOT.
Thank you very much once again!
The Neeko recalling at 7:22, LOL
that was neeko's clone
@MHD69420 oh shi, you're right
I would LOVE to see how something like this could be implemented in the bot lane, as it seems very useful for solo lane play but maybe not as apparent on how to use this for bot lane
In the bot lane you just pressure the enemy bot lane under their tower. While you are hitting their heads, the enemy adc will focus on not being hit, eventually loosing cs and not being able to respond your trade. Hold this position for as long as possible till he stays so underfarm that he cant trade anymore or till a dive is possible
Sometimes the enemy ADC will recognise that they cannot stay, and so must recall. In those situations, the support can actually hold the wave outside their tower range, but it’s up to us to deny that play and make sure the wave crashes. Then we can recall to match their recall.
If the low-health ADC chooses to stay under tower, we can look to harass or dive with JG, or dive with tank support (maybe even trade one-for-one so ADC loses wave and xp)
Sometimes you may be versing an APC/ADC with TP so they can just TP back, but at least it will be on CD
thank you for these infos :)
Admitted it didn’t win all 6 games. Good honesty and sets good expectations that this isn’t something that can be done every single game but should be used when available
Loving the secret faker technique series
Thanks for sharing this tecnique
15:18 is not necessarily a mistake. as you pointed out before you already had tp advantage, so by taking trades like what you can do is just recall and instantly tp back to lane to continue smothering him with a new reset
as he said, it was an unnecessary risk and if an enemy ganked he could have easily lost his lead
It was.a mistake. He lived because veigar misplayed (R is lethal if veigar waited for the second towershot to land)
I learned this technique way before Freon Curtis he used this technique on ekko mid and galio but I didn’t know what to do with the lead now I see the reason why you smother the enemy laner thx
Oh dang, I was doing this the entire time and didn't even realize it.
Thanks a lot for the video, i'm a skillcapped subscriber i mainly focus on the fundementals there
i would appreciate if you can tell us what to do if my opponent is using this technique so we know what to do if you are the oppressor and the victim
he explained multiple times to takes the loss and recall if your jungler can't/won't help
16:56 ye rn in soloq mid lane is ganked probably twice as often as botlane, it's very bizzare playing mid lately (i'm playing mostly in high silver to high gold games)
Has anyone else noticed it's the same games shown as in the last op Faker ward strat video?
I had no idea The sentence “forced into a 1v1 with Faker” would produce such an irrational amount of fear in me 😂
Good vid tho lol
I think a video on how to play AGAINST the smother technique would be super helpful. Im always facing it in midlane when playing against aggressive champs in a bad matchup and its very hard to play against
agreed
just think opposed to it. if the enemy is hardpushing to poke you under tower, match their push so the wave stays in place. if he is trying to get you low on health, try CSing with a long range ability and maybe lose some minions to keep a high HP. if he is trying to push and roam because drag is up and his jungler is going to do it, match his push so you can get there at the same time. The determining factor to respond to this technique is your champion. Not all champions can match a push, or have a high range ability, or survive poke damage. Imagine irelia VS veigar. if veigar plays well + has exhaust, he can E every engage irelia tries and constantly push her into her tower. How does irelia recover? This was a losing lane in champion select. in losing matchups like this, countering THE SMOTHER TECHNIQUE is not the play. instead, acknowledging you lose the matchup and NOT DYING so your team may try to recover and GETTING AS MUCH FARM AS POSSIBLE without dying, and AS MUCH XP AS POSSIBLE. when you lose the matchup, you lose. since he mentions low elo, most of the time the veigar wont play perfect, so irelia may have a window to solo kill him. but i think you get my point.
I've been watching PekinWoof's off meta climb series, and it seems to me like he does a good job of both using this technique but also playing against it. When his opponent is ahead and constantly pushing under tower, he lets them do it and just safely CSes under tower, which actually lets him clear faster than if he tried to fight it the whole way. He usually loses tower first when that happens a lot, but he then just focuses more on long term strategy, supporting team-mates, & other plays happening on the map rather than just hard winning lane.
stay under the tower and cs. dont get tunnel visioned to all minions. you have to give up few minions to avoid the enemy's poke. if you already low on health then just give up a wave and recall. in pro scene, the solution to this is your jungle or support comes to mid helping you pushing the wave for a recall.
I need to play more of this game
6:38 Just want to point out how perfectly Faker zones out the K’sante Q3, just barely out of range
same with the Q on Irelia with Gragas, good enough to hit her wether she Q the CS or not, whitch then prevent her from Qing the entire wave to potential Gragas death.
personally I main supp and maybe adc, both of which are not roles I want to play in low elo. Typically I climb the early season low elo games with mid (which I am not good at, but I win or go even at worse), and this trick is what I do regularly to get a lead, so I would say it works. In most games the enemy jungler is forced to camp you or have a significantly weakened mid laner, the only issue I have with this is that if they camp you and your other lanes still hard feeds, its going to be tough to carry regardless.
Well at low elo u can pretty much do anything u want and still win
Are there any video on how to recover when on the receiving end of being smothered like this?
It's happened to me a few times when I just did not know how to continue playing because the enemy laner would just keep scaling. I couldn't engage without potentially feeding, and I could not farm with out being zoned, couldn't even farm under tower without being harrassed.
I imagine with a team you could get assistance from ganks or roams but in solo queue this seems like a hard shutdown.
This is so strong that it deserves another video on how to defend against the technique!
And what should I do if I'm the in the position of the enemy (in disadvantage under the pression of my opponent using the smother technique)?
excellent video
I actually do this often as Galio and I described it as "Holding laner hostage" Because even if they try to base by tier 2 I would walk around raptors wall and throw a Q from the bush. Cos even if I lost a CS or two that's another 8 Seconds minimum they're out of XP range. Then if they finally do r ecall I crash a wave and they lose all the XP for it and I maintain momentum in a superior item/XP lead allowing me to repeat this. especially if they took anything except teleport.
were u rushing deathcap on ahri those 6 games? also is it better to buy deathcap before ludens?
Does this work in top lane early because it’s easy to be gained if you shove up like that toplane
I've seen this strategy on Humanoid. When I realized what he is doing I noticed that almost every pro laner does that.
I mean I already noticed this while watching faker but can this be applied in other roles like adc or top?
7:13 i was about to say smack some dps on the enemy jungler before recalling
Well seems that I was right all along lmao
This is how I usually play with Seraphine Midlane whenever I have q slight advantage.
I usually can't find opening to be dangerous due to the low amount of damage and the high cost of mana of my spells before my first recall, so I am more the safer player.
But when an enemy is too confident, or I hit them lots, or punish their small mistakes too much, I usually keep their bad position since around lvl 5 I can control the lane however I want.
So I keep my enemy as long as I can/want, and when I feel I will no longer be able to do that, I use all my strength to crash and back, losing barely a minion or two, when I'll make them lose way more.
Funny it can work as Seraphine in Midlane in almost any matchups... well technically it can work against anyone, but depending on the champion and player, the amount of mistakes they will have to do can vary (It is not the same for a Yasuo, a Fizz or a Twisted Fate)
nice, amazing
Thanks for the tips I play Seraphine mid as well
sera mid, useless players
@@LOSTKFC sadly ye, in early game it's not a talon or a Lux. However, her potential is still not to underestimate, which is why she's better ranked and better played in APC than support (and better played in Midlane imo but that's another thing)
She has an extremely weak early, but she's terrifying later to the point her biggest weaknesses in late game is when she's walking from the base to her team
What a strat to climb. 🙌💪
7:22 lmAo the mutual recall
but what should i be doing if the enemy has a lead like that should i recall and lose a wave or stay with low hp?
these faker videos teach me sooo much ty!
this also applies to all other lines exept jg
Ty so much for this technique but the problem is that with melee champ I can’t really poke like with kata I only have a to poke him under tower which is not enough so what should I do ?
You can poke with Kat under tower though W out of turret range then wait for tower to start shooting minion, then q+e+auto and e back to w safely. Or start with Q and if they walk in range of it W , E to the Q and then E back to the W. Add ignite and R and congrats your killing people under tower
@@kalenthedon8546 ah yeah ok ty
This is great. How do you counter it? If you're getting smothered what's the solution?
Don't lose trades so bad you get smothered that's the best one. Next beg your jg or support to gank. Next leave lane and gank with your jg or invade with him
More or less acquired but nice to read it.
Kind of sad the exemple at 3:50 is so terrible though.
I really would like to see how you turn to irelia to kill her, with no mana, in the middle of a cs wave, whitch will heal her for halth her HP while stacking her passive, so she can just AA Gragas to death.
faker probably has 1-2 mana biscuits, they give you mana over 5 seconds from your MISSING mana. So he would use them when irelia engages. His Q and ult would be enough, it's way too big of a risk for irelia to try this. If she tries and dies she's even further behind than she already is
@@Muftaayso then hes not actually low on mana and the example is just null? yes ofc if im full hp full mana i can force my opponent to lose a wave lol
@@Muftaay the situation Faker is is slightly different anyway, and he perfetly outplay his opponents spacing with a Q that can't be dodged by irelia even with her Q
if irelia goes in there she dies for sure lmao, and yes obviously you can make the enemy lose a wave if you are full health full mana and they aren't. This entire strategy is obvious, it only works if you are ahead in the first place.
i remember doing this accidentally back when i was low diamond in season 7-8, gp was ultra broken so the lane state would often quickly lead to me spamming Q and barrels under their turret until they die or recall
Guys you cant believe me but I already invented this by myself when I was kata otp and climbed to platinum in s7, also worked with other mid champs, so I was making worth fights and rotations if needed all the time, yna dtracing enemy jg...XD
The neeko recalling with faker is just... Great! kkskksks
This video could be called "Illaoi simulator 2015"
I just realized i was using the same technique at the first part of the video with akali without knowing it lol. I always double kill enemy jungle and midlanet with akali's huge lvl6 powerspike
then what happens when you get ganked while smoldering and that jungler drop your hp alot ( if he dies or not ) then you have to recall after that for not dying on the midlaner who has more hp and he can do the smolder technique on you to push and match your recall
In order to do this effectively, you'll need to have vision set up and pay attention to where the enemies could be. Is the support missing? Have you tracked their jungler? Where's their top laner right now? etc.
If you're safe, push the lane in. If you know that the enemy jungler could gank you, smother by pushing the wave in and be ready to fight / back off if you're likely going to die. Like they mentioned in the video, getting ganked is a good thing. You draw pressure away from the other lanes, and as long as you're aware and have a plan for it then you shouldn't die. The enemy jungler ends up wasting time trying to kill you, your jungler can confidently counter-jungle or gank a side lane, and your other laners can apply their own pressure since they don't need to worry about getting ganked.
@@DeathBean89 yes but there are soo many cases where smouldering is not safe to apply .. that's kinda click bait to tell people it gets you to challenger ..
@@itsdarknesstime it's not really incorrect, it pretty much always works. The only "problem" is that the prerequisite to smothering someone is that you are winning lane in the first place. So if you suck at the game and get poked out of lane constantly, you will never be able to do it anyway. And depending on matchup it might not really be possible to win the lane unless the enemy does an egregious error, like if you are playing syndra into zed or something. The zed will push you in constantly and bully you until you get items. Unless he tower dives horribly and dies
@@ragegaze3482 and if you don't suck at the game either you already smolder or you do not need to .. ^^
That NEEKO recall got me fuqed up
Where i struggle doing this is when i play against someone like garen or champs who just have insane sustain like what am i supposed to do there when they dont give me the possibility to deny their healing
you don't do this if you don't have the capability to poke them under turret or dive them, At that point you are better off freezing and forcing them out of tower. Or building up a big wave to crash and recalling, which will keep them in lane clearing the minions while you walk back, giving you a temporary lead until they recall. then you can push
Tried this and it was fun to see the enemy struggle lol
is ahri good to otp?
for this to work you need to be a dominant lanner that shits on people and have a good escape/mobility tool.
"How to carry as Froggen... with snowballs."
Junglers right now rubbing there hands together
y'all see that neeko whiff hextech protobelt tho
Veigar should've just recalled anyways, right? Siege wave and ahri push lvl 4 isn't that strong. He wouldn't have missed siege minion. Unless ahri would have freezed. So wouldn't freezing be the best option?
this is one of the most valuable mid guides in league history, no joke... lol it is how you climb as mid and actually improve micro and macro to unusual high levels
The enemy jungler recalling right next to faker 😂
That’s precisely why I love champ like Rumble and Lux… they are immune to this past 6, because they can simply ult the wave.
well how do you get the advantage in lane tho?
i used this technique as adc it works too.. ;) but i almost always win any lane by entering it first start preparing minions and when they come get little trade which is 99% my advantage. but i usualy dont back away when i start loosing thats probably right play always..
7:21
Sooooo... Noone talking about how Neeko cuddled with Zed there in bush?
Great tip! But what if 3 or 4/5 of my team are 0-10..
I like the technique but I have one question, what if they are under turret baiting you to push and then their jungler shows behind you?
Turn on jungler and kill him. If you Are too weak to kill enemy jungler you shouldnt crash wave to the tower.
Deep ward enemy jg then buy pink for the same side river bush , hover that side of lane and track jg
if you aren't strong enough to fight the 2v1 and kill at least 1, you shouldn't be hard pushing in the first place. Unless you play a champ like zed and can W out over a wall for guaranteed safety.
7:25 wtf😂
7:20 why are they backing together?
Dear skill capped!
Do you have strategy to up climb fast playing 2-3 times a week?
I love League but don’t have much time to spend there (family, work, sports etc). I’m ready to buy it asap:) yours 38 yo fan❤
It's like xPetu says: If you're winning, play safe, if you're losing, take risks.
Toy mate sry im quite druk but in general tour afvice hasnalways b en quite great thx hx for that!
What about the inverse? How should you respond to being smothered?
does this work in top too?
How do you apply this as a support?
You don't
So to use this technique just dominate your late and then test if it works by going to a lower elo to dominate the lane. Gotcha
👍
Now what if you're playing Fizz or very melee sided champions that can't poke from afar ? :/
you kill them under tower, if you can't kill them you shouldn't push the wave like that anyway. Going 1 for 1 in that position as fizz would always be worth it
So 'push wave' is now a 'secret faker technique'? I wonder if Faker also buys items after he recalls. I call it the the secret hop and shop strategy only used by showmaker. My analysis shows that people who dont use the shop are less likely to win games.
7:21 wth going on with neeko 🤣
Good video, but isnt this just using lane Prio to its fullest?
Thought I would learn something new here, but I main top and this is literally how it is always played.
That 7:22 recall was kinda sus :D
With mid tower being and plates being so valuable, is it ever worth it to stay and take mid plates after you force the recall? Or should you always match their recall so you can return to lane in time to catch the next wave? When shoukd you take plates vs instantly match their recall?
if you can take the plate with a couple hits yes, if its a full plate, its not worth it because you will lose all your tempo, and he will be back full hp and with items advantage cause you didnt back to use that plate gold.
13:31 vibranCY ENGAGE
Today I play Ahri mid to try this... Im at Gold IV:
I was playing agains a veigar mid... My team wanted to fight lvl 1 but they were poked real hard and veigar ended 2/0, I ended 1/0 and the enemy ashe ended 2/0...
During lane fase I played it so that veigar didnt back to use de gold from de 2k and I got him to stand like 3 minutes with 0 mana so he didnt farm...
Then I he was so low on hp but he standed at tower and I already pushed, there was a fight on drake wich I won and I pinged drake(enemy amumu was dead and veigar was like 100hp 0 mana)... No one came....
then kayn started diying 1v4 all the time. GG
This is fine but what about if you play champs that don't have the wave clear to pull this off? Very few champs have wave clear like ahri
Eh unless playing something like pyke mid almost all midlaners have some sorta wave clear at level 6
oh, this is something i do regardless, but its very inneffective against teleport users which are the majority of lanes you can crush
How is it very ineffective? You force them out of lane they take a bad back , you recall come back and do it again
12:55 lost canon minion though?
I was the victim of this technique 3 times yesterday and twice today. Can you let us know how to counter this? I understand that the best idea is to leave and then try to make up for it later, but how?
Besides last hitting and having the jungler gank to create some pressure, while I am playing defensively, I have absolutely no way to counter it. I just started playing again on a new account after many, many years. Thing is, many smurfs make no accounts and 9/10 matches I am versing in some capacity a Diamond+ player that absolutely stomp us. 60% of the time, they end up being in my lane, since I usually play Mid or Top.
One time I was Yasuo against a Caitlyn. for 10 minutes straight I couldn't deal any damage to her. She did everything absolutely right and she knew exactly how to prevent the minions from hitting her and evade my attacks. This is very discouraging. I am hoping that starting from level 30, when I get to match with level 30+ players, the story will be different. The skill gap is way too big for me to handle it.
The counter is just not losing lane, this only works if you are getting low on health from bad trades. If you are winning in lane then they can't do this, or even if you are even.
I played vs an emerald 3 top layer playing yasuo. I played malphite. I made a few mistakes and he capitalized. He kept me pushed in and pinned under turret for about 5 mins. Luckily the jungle didn't gank to kill me. Fast forward 6 mins. I tp and hard pushed the wave. Rotated mid cus i saw he was low and then flash ulted to get a kill. Then made it back to top in time to catch both waves. He continued to smother me. Until I tried to 1v1 him during my next ult cd. Missed my ult and he got an advantages trade to where we were both even. So he pinned me at tower again for another 5 mins. He played the smother strategy perfect. But in the end I just had the better team fighting champ. Landed some clutch ults and we won the game. 😅
Ok but how do you deal with a strong enemy jungler in this case? It seems to me this only works if your champion has some form of escape to get out of that situation, otherwise you feed the enemy jungle? imagine playing orianna vs irelia like that and the enemy hecarim races to you while you are up the lane.
In the case where you are orianna and are ahead, you will keep the wave on your side of the lane and will walk forward to pressure the irelia out of xp range. Irelia is melee, if she walks up you will just q+e+aa and then back off again (repeat this when q is back up)
The fact that the best strategies are literally not to play, but instead to run off and just afk, shows what an utter disaster this game is.
Why the enemy recall together? 😂
As a teemo main I sense this as en evil plan 😈 lure them to the shrooms !!! Jg nightmare
Does this work in bot and top lane too?
Bot is harder to dive properly so probably not, and you open yourself up to getting ganked and murdered since the lane is so long, it's hard to get away.
Faker puts pressure on enemy;
SC: lets call this the smother Technique!
This is all well and good in Gold/Plat but currently in Bronze/Silver if I do this and don't hard stomp my opponent, my bot lane feeds, enemy bot lane is 10/0 and all of a sudden I'm dealing with an ADC that one shots me in .5 seconds. How do I carry that? Some people are genuinely uncarriable and it's all to common in these ranks for folk to feed their asses off even while trying to win.
Sounds like it's your fault as well if your playing mid and constantly have lane prio and allow the enemy bot lane to go 10/0 you can't complain. You should of roamed and camped them to relieve pressure
I play Top mostly, with TP (where bot or the support rarely, if ever wards), sometimes mid. If my mid opponent moves for bot, I ping and follow after pushing out wave. Bot lane is usually incapable of listening to call outs or playing safe even when incredibly behind.
Is there stuff I could do better? Definitely. Doesn't change the fact that 9/10 it's the bot lane INTing there asses off. It's very rare for me to see Top Lane or Jungle get crushed as often as Bot Lane does. They ALWAYS think they are capable of making a play, it rarely if ever works out.
@@kalenthedon8546 not to mention your assuming alot. Never said I have constant prio, or that I played Mid, or really anything to do with your comment.
And I find camping bot terrible advice, you want me to lose out on any other possible resource? Allow my opponent laner to collect plates and farm without worry? The deaths usually start happening before 5 minutes, by 10 mins they can be 0/5 never mind 15 mins because they are incapable of simply playing smart.
50% of the people I face it's genuinely like they never played M&K in there life. 30% absolute smurfs and the last 20% are actually at your skill level. Such variety is frustrating and makes it incredibly hard to get solid practice in.
No thinking game it's that easy / Get hard stomped because they are so much better / Have a good game where a lot of learning is done.
Not saying I deserve a higher rank, I could definitely do better. But this is the case in nearly all of my games.
Your first example is moot.
People in the lower elo don’t cancel recalls to get a wave they keep trying to recall making your attempts to stop them kind of pointless
8:57 Did he just call that a super easy to execute tower dive!!
ikr
poppy completely counters all ability for irelia to dash out, and she was perma cc'd until she died. So yea that's fairly easy. If the jungler wasn't able to stop her from dashing around, not so easy
@@ragegaze3482 I meant the CC layering there was definitely a high elo thing. In my games the jungler won't even consider a dive let alone have tgat perfect coordination
@@mahmoudwaelelmelouk8500 That's true, I just meant from a counterplay perspective, the irelia techincally couldn't do anything if poppy and gragas play right. But most elos would probably use all their cc instantly
how about plates?
