when she said: i’m doing my best. that was the thing that hit me the most in the movie because no matter how hard she tries to fit in or be kind to people, they will always see her as a freak
I feel like this is one of the most emotional scenes in the movie. Shoko’s been bullied and picked on since she transferred to the school and Shoya’s finally gotten karma thrown back at him and he’s upset and angry with the world, himself, and Shoko. Their fighting is the first double sided conflict they’ve had and suddenly all of their frustrations are manifesting in kicks and punches. The music just kind of makes it seem childish, because it is in a way. Bullying and stress are things that all kids probably go through, albeit on different scales.
I think that he was a great jerk back then, but we have to admit that he was really sorry about what he had done. I am a person that do not trust others excuses because the 85% of the people don't apologise in real, but this man was really regretted and I appreciate that.
@Don’t Read My Name man, I am calm, you misanderstood me. It's just the fact that in movies, characters do not really regregt their bad actions, but in this movie he really did it, that's why I found in interesting, of course it is a movie for entertainment.
Dude , that was the most emotional scene for me and I can’t enjoy it anymore because of your comment , maybe because the word childish, they are kids dude , you are horrible
This scene is, in my opinion, the most powerful in the movie. To go in depth, its because two young kids, both suffering from their own problems, one of which is inescapable, and the other is something that no kid should have to ever go through, which is seeing their family in a state of financial problems. Both kids don't know how to express their feelings in a way which is not harmful to them or anyone else. So, one bullies the other, whereas the other tries to show remorse and tries her best to cope with her disability. Both of them find each other and take their anger out on each other, but in reality they aren't mad at each other whatsoever. They are merely children who are suffering, who don't know how to express their feelings, and have only each other to show their (not to sound redundant, but) feelings.
I think honestly the most realistic kid fight I've ever seen, the kicking especially you can just feel it and I remember being in that exact same position in a fight kicking someone
One of my favorite things about this movie is how the creators refused to use traditional color psychology. Typically during a fight, scenes will often become red or orange to indicate passion or fury, fire, or blood. Sadness will often use blue, and happiness will typically use yellow. You'll see this in every Disney movie ever. During this entire fight, the scene was yellow, which often represents happiness. Interpret that any way you like. But I truly believe artists should draw what they see, not what makes sense.
Wow. Now that you said it i see it!! That's so interesting. The fight isn't supposed to come off as intense, but melancholic. I think it's even sadder that way, the way light shines into the room. Hopeful like, maybe they can actually turn this around, maybe he can finally see her. That's what I felt. Hopeful. The warm yellow tone helps. It's a childrens' fight yet it's so much more for them. Using blue or red or any other color would undermine that
One of my favorite scenes from the movie. Their fight is so realistic, I love the light that illuminates them, the piano music, everything is so exciting. This scene really moves me
Only just seen this movie and my god, what a powerful impact this had! She was so full of anger and sadness from all the bullying, now I’m crying like hell 😭
he bullied nishimiya then got ratted out and bullied by his friends yet he and his old friends still redeemed themselves at the end this movie was a whole gold mine of meanings
In the German dub she tried to say "I love you" in this scene, this hitted me different, because she tried to be friends with him, because she loved him since the beginning of her school life . 😔😔😔
In the manga this scene is even sadder. As Ishida was being severely bullied and his footwear were constantly being missing in the shoe racks, he went on to find the culprits, he saw Shouko cleaning up a desk full of harsh vandalisms, he mistook it for her cleaning her own table and thought it was pathetic that she's still getting bullied. He saw Shimada and Hirose throwing away his shoes and they proceeded to beat him up. He woke up seeing Shouko wiping his bloodied lips, he got mad at her, saying he's tired of her pretending to be nice and smiling like an idiot all the time. He shoved her and she hit her head, she got up and went on to slap him, and that's where the fight as shown in this scene began. After Shouko was transferred to a different school, Ishida saw his desk riddled with harsh vandalisms and realized it was his table that Shouko had been cleaning, he still hated and blamed her for what happened to him.
The way the music just kicks in once they actually start fighting is what makes this scene. With all the background noises all the chairs and desks make.
In fact she was saying "ganbatte ru! kore demo ganbatte ru!!" which means "I am doing my best, It may not seem like it, but I am doing my best" as a answer to shoya who was asking her "if you wanna say something to me, sait it now" then "say something !" she was like : i am doing my best to speak and express myself
