The original 4 elements were the "magical elements" as that aligned with the cosmic elements of Earth (The DJs alter), Fire (the MCs message), wind (the force of that paint being applied) and Water (the movement of the dancer).
Remember the pagan roots of the ancestors.
Hip-hop was a modern form of magic or alchemy used to elevate black people out of salvery.
The 5th element (knowledge of self) was the element that completed the pentagram, with the mind being the top of the star.
Think about it. This is why hip-hop will become a force to corrupt the youth if practitioners are not intentional about using this power for good and not evil

"Knowledge of Self" is one of the original 5 elements of Hip Hop. I never heard of street knowledge being one.

There are 4 pillars of Hip-Hop,
And then there are 9 elements.
There are only 4 elements to hip hop, D.j'ing, M.C.'ing, Graffiti and Break dancing Beat Boxing is a side bar which was fazed out in the mid 80's. KRS 1 is a dope M.C. but he caint just add shit cause he feel like it. Though Hip Hop started in the streets it grew past that into an international art form, so being from the streets and having street knowledge isn't necessary in hip hop today. There are thousands of M.C's who don't xome from the streets and are some of raps biggest stars like Drake for instance. I just don't like it when you have certain people who think just because they have deep roots in the hip hop game that they can come and change things just because they say so. How can KRS 1 decide what goes and what doesnt, he didn't create Hip Hop and neither did Bambata, even though I respect them both and their contributions to the game but let's stop wit all the extra sht and recognize that the four elements of Hip Hop are like the 10 commandments that's what it is and that's what it's gonna be.
