I'm watching this video outside in san francisco, and the fog horns are going off like usual because its always foggy here and there's a lot of shipping coming into the bay. However they are the exact note of his drone, and by chance they keep falling on downbeats. It's an amazing coincidental synergy.
Totally right. Very close to the truth. I myself was adopted. Always thought I had Irish blood until I discovered I was adopted. Traced my mother only to find out she came from west Galway. So I was right all along. (My adopted parents were from Roscommon)
It's from the Gaelic name of Tigernan or Tighearnan. Tighearnan Mor Ua Ruairc was the grandson of O'Connor, the last King of Ireland. Long story. Best look it up on Wikipedia. Goes back to the Norman conquest of Ireland. Not a happy ending.
To the piper who wished his pipes used so little air: they should, with only the chanter playing there should be very little elbow movement. I have a few short videos for extreme beginners about testing reeds and pipes, search RUclips under "dayepipes" [DO include the double quotes] but otherwise anyone struggling to operate the instrument should seek help with adjustments, get to a workshop etc. It should be a comfortable instrument to operate.
David yes,,I recently picked my half set of pipes and have found within just a week I am so used to ''pumping'' the bellows and get into a timing with them then fill the bag too much going up another scale on the notes
I am sure you would get interesting sounds but it wouldn't be very musical to the ear, alter the reed head dimensions and the chanter won't be in tune with itself no matter what sound comes out. For instance, generally a reed that has a head bigger than the bore hole at the bottom of the chanter (the part which rests on the leg) will have a very flat back D out of scale with the rest of the chanter, reed head to narrow results in very sharp sounding chanter, reed head to short or to long some notes won't sound at all, making reeds is a bit of a science in itself.

Tiarnan has to be one of my favourite pipers. I just love his sense of rytm and just how steady and confident he plays.
my favorite piper of all time. Tiarnan, you're the man.
The audience's ability to sit stick still is impressive, too. Great tunes, very clean.
he has a real power in variating the tunes. he's a stunning player, I would like him to teach me
This is so bloody perfect. His choice of tunes is simply magic!
What a fantastic player! And he was using only the regulators - no drones! Go raibh maith agat!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Brilliant! He's amazing....
He is my teacher!
So you are lucky

DAS HOW YOU PLAY A FECKIN PIPE!!!!
wonderful Sound! does anyone know the title of the song witch the accordion in the beginning?
Tier-nun O'Dinkin - how his name sounds - he's an unbelieveable piper - played at my wedding........
@BlackFolkAndPiano I thought the Otter's Holt was a Crehan tune.
@theherpman94 I think he actually has 6 or 7 pipes in there :p
But amazing pipes nevertheless, can't get enough of this song.
@petermerbeth The Otter's Holt is a McGoldrick's tune... This tune is instead a Tommy People's tune

Is that Fromont or Arpha set?? lovely tone off the chanter
sharing to #HGWeekly :)
What is the name of the tune at the beginning with the accordion? Anyone ?
Can I put reeds from other instruments in the place of uilleann pipe reeds and actually get a new interesting sound?
Do regulators typically play minor chords when they are only being played by the wirst....?

accordion
I like the lower tone he plays, richer sound.
I always said that's he the best piper... or Neilidh Mulligan. Out of those 2 would be the best pipers, In my opinion.
PatrickM1996 fuck up patrick
@PipersGrip maybe, but anyway it's not Tommy People's :D
Solace orm
