    big yes on the SJM (and the others), she will never see a single cent from me again💀i feel like seperating the art from the artist is already unrealistic but ESPECIALLY when it comes to authors and their books, because they literally (whether consciously or unconsciously) weave their personal beliefs, thoughts, and morals into their work!

    No dark romance stuff and all that for me either, I read a book with a SA scene in it and I cried and felt terrible. Thank god I got it from the library, the scene was so short and all that but I just couldn't do it

  • @dearestzeynab

    I'm with you on the first one because a lot of people tend to separate the art from the artist and that just doesn't sit right with me! esp with SJM

    I will definitly never read The Handmaids Tale. I'm a huge horror fan and I like macabre stuff, but that is probably the worst scenario I could ever imagine and I don't see how I could get any joy out of reading this book. Nothing against the book tho, I just think that my life will be better without it's content living rentfree in my head forever.

    • @ozisorbit
      @ozisorbit  Месяц назад +1

      That’s valid! Life’s too long to be reading books that’ll probably turn into rage reads lol but I have been tryna (very loosely) read more horrors, got any recs for beginners? I will say I LOVE horror movies but I just haven’t found the right ones in book form

      @@ozisorbit i can definitly recommend T. Kingfishers horror novels for beginners. They are eerie and atmospheric but also kinda cozy and playful. I havn't read much by the author yet but I really liked The Hollow Places and The Twisted Ones 👍
      I also recently read The Watchers and The Creeper by A.M. Shine, they have an irish setting, which I like a lot, and a creepier, more dreadful atmosphere. But also very good, I had a lot of fun reading them.

      It’s so weird to me when people dismiss a whole genre of literature, when what they mean is that they haven’t found sci-fi or romance or classic books that work for them. I understand having preferences, but sweeping generalizations about a whole genre? I can’t believe you really mean it.
