+ampha sherpa All my Respect! I have never been to Everest, I wish I could gaze upon its magnificence awe inspired beauty just once, to see with my own eyes the moonlight as it glistens off the summit and stars streaking across it peak OH WOW Everest has this spirit, like a rare endangered wild animal, to be viewed from a distance, never touched and most certainly NEVER conquered, defeated or tamed. I feel this deep soulful sadness when I see the garbage, and worse the bodies, who's spirits are forever lost, trapped or connected to the spirit of the mountain they went to conquer.
I have watched several documentaries, to me it seems to be like a double edged sword. If it wasn't for the need of so many outsiders for "Personal" glory or desire to dominate, tame and "Conquer" that which can NEVER be tamed nor conquered, maybe so many lives wouldn't be lost or at constant risk, and so many Sherpa's wouldn't be forced to risk their lives to climb it, so that their children will never need to take that risk, living a longer and far better life, one in with they can once again look at the mountain, and finally see it again in all its magnificent beauty, awe inspiring splendor and its wild untamed spirit.
Maybe if those wishing to climb Everest had to leave a deposit, which would cover the cost of removing their body should they parish on the mountain, if and when its becomes accessible. Maybe then the magnitude and danger of what they are about to endeavor, will be put into a better and far more accurate and realistic perspective. The following is not meant to be disrespectful, nor is it my intention to diminish the intensive risk, its merely meant to break the tension an sorrow I feel. I'm sure many reading this can come up with far more creative and witty acronyms, I look forward to them.
D.E.A.T.H (Deceased Excavation And Transportation Holding) Fee
D.E.A.D (Dangerous Excavation And Delivery) Fee Maybe D.E.A.D (Deceased Evacuation And Delivery) Fee
B.R.R. (Bodily Remains Recovery) Fee maybe B.R.R. (Body Recovery Removal) Fee
B.R.R.R. (Bodily Remains Recovery Removal) Fee
C.O.L.D. (Cadaver Operational location Department ) Fee
Z.E.R.O. (Zone, excavation Recovery, Operation ) fee.
Bear Grills used a type of motorized glider parachute thing, to get down from Everest, so maybe technology will find not only a way to help those in emergency situations, but a safer way to enjoy the magnificence that is Everest

Hang on a moment if people wouldn't be able to climb the mountain without sherpas then how does that make sherpas hero's because if they cannot even get up the mountain they wouldn't need saving or guiding because they wouldn't even be in that position jn the first place to be even able to climb the mountain if anything sherpas actually put people on the mountain by offering them a service then get called hero's that dose. Not make sense
Actually think about it they offer a service to. Mountaineering company's to get novice climbers up the mountain nobody forces them. If their services was not available and their was no such thing as a *sherpa* then their would. Be way less people dying on the mountain because they simply would never be able to do it in the dam. First place this is a major flaw people have missed with the sherpas actually offering a carry you up. The mountain service they actually invite novice climbers to the mountain.... And then you. They dont invite novice climbers, people *CAME* to them with big chunks of money on the line and of course they will do whatever they can to make sure the climbers reached their goals and return safely, Its their job after all and wdym by "why blame westerners". Everest is a $2Billion industry just in 2 months out of the year.
Many sherpa either run their own expeditions or advertise their services.
The West is not responsible for the poverty they live in ... the Nepalese government is.
There is just so much ignorance within his presentation that it would take too long to explain.

So people do pay upwards of $80k to summit everest, but most of that goes to the foreign/domestic travel agencies which planned their summiting. Sherpas get paid just about $5k-$8k. Excluding tip. Giving that's a considerable sum of money in Nepal, i don't think it's good enough for risking lives. Plus some foreigners really ill treat their sherpas, and i heard this from sherpas themselves in namche bajar when i was there on october. From food they give to the way they talk to sherpas are so discriminating. Their job is to guide them but it kinda feels like they're a personal butler or a servant(i didn't say this the guide did). Wake up at 4-5 run to get the hotels booked, cook for them, babysit them, and do things at their whim.
So all in all, no they do not get paid as much as they should, and they do not get treated with respectlike they should be. In internet yes, in the everest where it really matters, most of the time, no.

It feels so selfish when people who clearly cant handle the mountain get draged up by sherpas on Mount Everest just because they have money and wanted to do so.

I respect that you document these amazing people & all they are. I’ve never scaled a mountain (& don’t want to), however I totally admire and respect the Sherpa men that risk their lives to support their families amidst the ignorance & egos of some people that don’t appreciate or even realize everything they do! Amazing respect to them and to you for documenting it all. Thank you for sharing
