This version of Dracula is still my absolute favorite. Key thing to know about the casting for the film: both Keanu and Winona were actually not Coppola’s original choice but the studio wanted them in the film because they were both the “it” actors at the time. Keanu went out of his way to try and learn the English accent and studied it as best he could but he couldn’t get it at all. Winona had done multiple roles back to back and was drained during the filming process on this and Oldman was beyond frustrated working with her on the romantic scenes. Needless to say, besides the obvious setbacks on the movie, it’s still wonderful
Actually, it was only Keanu that was not his choice. Winona actually was the one who brought the book and the idea of the movie to Francis Coppola. She WAS his Mina. The studio wanted Keanu to draw the teenage female trade. He was miscast, but tried very hard to get the British accent down.
People insist on calling it "Bram Stoker's Dracula" because this movie is supposed to be very faithful to Stoker's book. Dracula thinks Mina is the reincarnation of his old love who committed suicide 400 years before. Don't be too hard on Mina. Dracula has the power of compulsion and a magnetism, so she is not acting totally under her own free will. Vampires in this telling can transform into many things, flies, mist, fog, a colony of bats, rats, man-bats and yes as a wolf and werewolf. A gentleman kissing a woman's hand is a sign of respect, especially if he met her for the first time. The "cracker" was a communion wafer.😅
Vlad Tepesh, the historical inspiration for Dracula was known also as Vlad the Impaler. He was a particularly cruel and sadistic warlord according to most records (but still considered an hero in Transylvania for having stopped the Ottoman invasion) he’s rumoured to have left thousands of Ottoman soldiers impaled alive on the side of the road as a sign to the rest of the Ottoman. That’s why the human chic kebab bit at the start
This is one of the greatest movies ever made. The book was great. This movie was so great it withstood Keanu Reeves acting which was the sole negative reaction from critics. A few points:' 1: Mina is the re-incarnation of Elizabeta and Van Helsing is the re-incarnation of the priest in the opening scene. You will notice Anthony Hopkins played both characters. 2: The carriage rider who picked up Jonathan from the Borgo pass was Dracula. 3: The first vampyre who rose from the bed to seduce Jonathan was played by Monica Bellucci. It was her second film appearance. 4: Dracula through out the film takes up different physical forms. None of what you watched was a dream. At end it is plain to see that Dracula has to come grips with his destiny and wants his soul to rest in peace. Great movie and the book is even better!!
Seen this in theater. It was supposed to resemble a play. That's why certain things looked like bad special effects. Poor Keanu his accent was horrible 😂 great reaction love!
He said the SAME exact thing that I had said! Why didn't she just wait a couple hours to see whether or not Vlad would've actually made it home for dinner?!?! She couldn't wait for her people to bring confirmation of his death?? She was a PRINCESS so I know she had people. 😮 She took the leap of death, o she of little faith! 🤦🏽♀️
Coucou, I love this movie. Poetic, horror, love, it's a strange mix of differents layers. And the movie still have best imaginative fades of all times.
Never thought Keanu would ever be much of an actor. We'd say a role as a fence post would be too much of a stretch. But I am happy to be wrong and to have seen him grow -- not that he ever shows much emotional range, but he sure makes it work for him. Anyway, done some good work and is, by all accounts, a truly wonderful person. One good thing about Keanu's appalling accent is that it distracts from Winona's which wasn't a lot better. The film production did them both dirty by not spending more time with a voice/accent coach for the pair.
I enjoyed his reactions and narrations so much! At times he made me laugh so hard. I was talking to my phone screen like he and I were in a conversation about this movie. He was quite entertaining. And I agree with his assessment of Gary Oldman's complexity in playing the various aspects of Dracula's nature, too. This was a really cute video! 😅
At the beginning, you said after Dracula's wife self-unalived herself, "What if she jumped up and said, 'Just kidding'"...lol. I thought, Dracula might say, "What?! I already drank the blood. Oh sh*t." and then he'd throw her out the window again but this time for real lmao 🤣🤣🤣
I really admire content creators, especially new ones. You're taking a chance in an area that is saturated but still moving forward. Personally, i like your personality and your comments.
You had me cracking up during this one! I reacted to Keanu's accent/performance similarly the first time I saw this! If you ever want to see what may be his worst every performance you'd have to watch Much Ado About Nothing. Another great reaction!!! 😆
Bram Stoker wrote the book 'Dracula' which is the base for all modern Dracula stories. This may be why people insist on using the authors name so it is known to be authentic lore. Many movies made of vampires often romanticize the creature that is truly evil in nature. He had more in common with demons than humans.
I always assumed that she killed herself out of love, but also because she knew what the enemy would do to her without her man to protect her. Also, try watching Dracula, Dead and Loving It for a completed different take. 😂
The real wife of Vlad did kill herself, it was viral times in the 14th century war was rampant death was high and survival was imminent 600 years ago!. Vlads son from what I know of history took the throne after his fathers murder… all any ruler of the past wanted was to protect their people and lands! Vlad wanted nothing more than to be reunited with his family after death! This movie is very good about the fictional vampire VladDracula.
Great Reaction Man Bram Stroker s Dracula Classic Great Movie another Movie Highly recommend Marvel s Comics Blade Starring Wesley Snipes Snipes was Really good Bad Ass Relentless

If you're interested in the real Dracula, check out Vlad the Impaler (as he was known in his lifetime). His real life and psychopathic behaviors are far more terrifying than the fictional version created by Bram Stoker's novel.
"He's a very religious man, asking forgiveness for the sins he just committed." That is NOT what he's doing lol. He's thanking God for his victory in battle. Vlad Tepes, while deeply religious, was a BRUTAL man who slaughtered thousands of people without a shred of remorse. The Muslim Turks (whom you aptly called "human shish kebabs" lol) were his enemies. He tortured and impaled them to scare the bejeezus out of the Sultan and his army. Although, to be fair, it looks like you're watching a version without the subtitles. That really sucks (no pun intended lol) because a LOT of important context is missing without them.
The ‘cracker’ is the blessed sacrament…..what Catholics, Lutherans and orthodox Christians believe is the body of Christ. Those religions believe when the priest says the words ‘take and eat this is my body given for you and for many for the remission of sins. Do this in memory of me’ over the bread then it changes into the Body of Jesus Christ. We call it ‘the blessed sacrament’ and if vampires were real then yes it would be very powerful….however vampires are not real.

@@Whipslinger1yeah Winona Rider worked hard for this movie to be made in the first place.

"Bad special effects" You mean brilliant practical effects and not lousy CGI.

I love how they put the real Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Draculia from history in the movie, which turns out to be Dracula, the vampire
don't know much about "Vlad the Impaler."...(?)
Great reaction! This is such a classic movie, I love how over the top and theatrical it is, very fitting for Dracula ❤

I like it a lot.
Coppola reason for hiring Keanu reeves was because he was the it boy at the time. The heart throb in the early 90s.
thanks
This was one of the last big movies to use zero cgi.
Hey, I love this movie too much to condemn it....Have felt this way since my younger years...Love from Sweden
