Great job explaining things Emma. Also, primary teachers need to realize the littles take a LONG time to get things done so don’t be discouraged if you don’t finish everything you planned❤️. I enjoyed this and I’m entering my 11th year in first grade!
I’ve been waiting for a video like this!! No clue what my schedule is, no access to curriculum, but I wanted to have an idea of what to do on the first day. This was super helpful, Emma! Thank you!
I'm currently a Pre-K teacher and want to make the jump into elementary teaching and I am super nervous! Your videos are fantastic and really give me the spark to make the jump! :)
Oh my gosh this was so helpful! I’m about to be a first year 1st grade teacher and would LOVE to see a video going over your whole first week of school. I’ve been watching your videos throughout my whole student teaching and they’ve been great! Thanks for all you do 💞
This was such an inspiring video Emma, thank you so so much. I was busy cutting and laminating some flashcards for the sound /d/ when I came across your video and it gave me so much ideas for next year. I am a Kindergarten(Grade R - reception) teacher in South Africa and we are in Term 3 now and I am slowly starting to prep for next year, registration for 2023 already started. This is my third year of teaching and every year since I started teaching I was so stressed about the first day and all the procedures that has to be taught. For the first time in my teaching career I feel calm about the first day of school. I have a whole word document of notes I made throughout the video. I know if I set clear expectations for my children at the very beginning of the year the discipline and class management will also be better. Thank you so so much Emma. May God bless you and your family. 💕🤍🙏
Thank you so much for this! I am a first year first grade teacher! :) Could you do a video about the first few weeks of school? I want to know more about going from teaching routines and procedures to teaching the curriculum
I am currently in the MAT program. We are doing first week lesson plans and class management. I hope to be teaching fall of 2022. I will be watching your videos for information and inspiration. I am getting a late start into this field as I am 45 years old. It is going to be a huge adjustment and adventure for me. Do you ever feel like the kids are just zoned out and not listening? LOL! Questions are so good to bring them back into the subject. I love the dance and freeze and reading a book idea.
Welcome to the non-traditional teacher group. I am 54 and this will be my first year as a Primary teacher. Age is just a number in my mind and the kids love us regardless as long as we show love and respect back to them!
I loved this video, Emma. I was just like "ohhh" "ahhh" throughout the whole video. I don't have any questions but would love to see the rest of the week. Btw, I'll be definitely taking some of your first day plan for mine, especially the expectations and the brain breakers.
Emma- your video was SPOT ON! Thank you for address those of us that have not met with their team, know schedules, or really know much of anything in terms of what is expected or schedules. I gleaned so much from you going through your detailed first day lesson planning!! Thank you and keep up the great work. P.S. Hope you are feeling well and the pregnancy is going well.
Thank you for the help. For some reason the first week is always the hardest to plan. Hope you will be doing more planning together. Really helpful even to a 6 year teacher lol (me)!
Oh my goodness, I can't believe how similar your first day of grade 1 is compared to our first day of grade 6. Your teaching methods are SO similar to my grade 6 teacher! It's actually really funny😂
I have been teaching for more than 25 years and I just took 2 pages of notes!! I am nervous every single year… so much to cover. Love your ideas!! I have enjoyed ALL of your videos!!
Sounds like you have a super solid plan! Where are you going to put the supplies they bring in in the morning until y'all sort in the afternoon? I sort it in a similar way and am trying to think it through for this year! One thing I like to do on the first day is a tour of the school in the morning after hallway expectations... WE visit the cafeteria and "pretend" like we are getting our lunch and sit at our table that way later in the day they are a little more ready for that procedure! The kids think it's funny and we get to see the cafeteria staff and say good morning to them as well!
@@emmagracejoens I got way over the top and make them all carry their imaginary tray and ask what they got for lunch and it’s all giggles but still great practice 😜
This was so helpful thank you!!!! I am someone who wants a grasp on everything. but without meeting with my team first it's good to know planning isn't that successful.
There is a great free resource on TPT that’s basically a long list of procedures/routines that you will most likely need to create a procedure for so that you are prepared from day one of school!
This year is my daughter’s first time going to school as a kindergartener, their school have us bring the school supplies during meet and greet so the students don’t have to carry all the heavy stuff on the first day of school, I didn’t know every school is different
So helpful! I loved going though the day and picturing it happening as you talked about each thing! so excited for my first day of student teaching this fall but I will definitely be referencing this again next year when I’m in my own class 🤩
Hi Emma love your videos! I'm curious if you're planning to tell your kids on the first day that you'll be leaving on maternity leave and when you're planning to introduce them to the long term sub!
Excellent video. Thank you! Is the reason you don't have classroom jobs because of the amount of children? I'm a preschool teacher and I have also "teacher's helper" as one job along with the others you mentioned - week switch weekly. Obviously our numbers/ratios are lower. Now I'm thinking about trying out just one job teacher's helper and change it daily. Sounds interesting.
Good stuff!! Thank you and you are an awesome teacher. Ps. I love ❤️ your hair. I know you’re not a fan too much but it’s a good change. Plus the color will fade as you wash it. 😀 Have a good school year and congrats on the little one 💕
I’m not a teacher and I have no kids of my own either, but I love seeing your videos of you and your class😊 although I’m just curious, if you have had to work with students with special needs what did you have to do? Did you modify certain lesson plans for them?
Depends on the lesson and the kiddo! Sometimes they’re able to do it with a little help from their para, sometimes their para has something separate for them to do that’s given by the sped teacher, and sometimes they’re completely capable of doing what everyone else is doing!
When I did it in the morning, the other kids played with their morning choice. Since I’m having a whole time allotted to that, i will probably give those kiddos a job to do to keep them busy. Depends on the kid and how many don’t have supplies (last year almost all of them did), but they love to help me or help their friends. So for example I may give one friend the tub for paints and they can walk around and get paint from everyone. Just depends!
In California we will all be going back to school in masks, when indoors. We haven't heard what the plan is for outside. But apparently we will be required to wear them indoors.

Oh I love that idea! I didn’t have that option with COVID last year so I didn’t even think about it. I’ll have to incorporate that somehow!!😍

YES! Just when I needed this, literally just sat down to start prepping my stuff and you upload a video! (It’s also my second year teaching🙌🏼😄)
Thanks so much. I love that you are doing this simple but so needed video. Take care of baby and yourself💕
Your sweatshirt! 😍 Congratulations again on your baby girl 💕💕
this was so helpful -thank you!
Love seeing your planning videos, they are so helpful!!
This was very helpful. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE! ! 😆
Thank you so much Emma. 😍😍😍
Do you guys have a meet your teacher day before the first day? At our school a lot of kids bring their supplies then.
could you please explain what exactly gets a warm and fuzzy, what students do to earn them? thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much for this video I can't thank you enough for the motivation and the steps throughout your details.
Hi Emma love your videos! I'm curious if you're planning to tell your kids on the first day that you'll be leaving on maternity leave and when you're planning to introduce them to the long term sub!
Idk if I missed it, but how do you choose who will be the junior teacher? Loved the video btw!
you are so pretty emma! i want to be a first grade teacher when i grow up as well! 🤍✨
Love your videos Emma! I will be subbing this fall, then student teaching in the spring. Hopefully get hired full time for 2022-2023 school year.
Gosh it was so interesting !! A part of me really want to be a teacher and you inspire me a lot❤

What lesson plans format do you use?
This was very helpful!!!🥰🥰🥰
Do you let your kiddos eat breakfast AND do morning choice? Or do you have them eat breakfast first then go get a morning choice bin?
Breakfast first if they’re eating it! Once that’s cleaned up then they get morning choice.
@@emmagracejoens Also, should I do a calm down corner in my 1st grade room? Have you used one before and had success? Thoughts?
Great Video for this 18th year veteran!
What do you do during supply sort when students don't have their supplies on that first day?

Is there a reason you only have one junior teacher as opposed to classroom jobs? I am really curious.
Hello, quick question, how often do you switch out the junior teacher?
Every day!
Ok side note... the sweatshirt ❤❤❤❤
Sooo helpful
Sweet Emma. You do look beautiful with that hair style as much as being all blonde... Just saying ☺️
Do the students and teachers have to wear masks? In Iowa, our governor banned schools and businesses to require masks!
