@@ToyManTelevision Yeah,it was at least 10 years ago. Norm Abrams came to Utah and actually help remove one using a machine to would vibrate and lift them out. I was thinking the pilings he helped remove was old growth redwood but you said they were Douglas fur. The wood they removed was well preserved because it was redwood and the lake didn't hurt it. Maybe they used both.
Thanks Dale and Karyn! That was superb! One can only imagine what they must have gone through in those early stressful days, cutting and transporting all those huge tree trunks. I'm glad the wood was salvaged and put to really good use. I've missed a few videos in between as the kids had their exams. I will however, go through every one of them. Love to both of you!
I saw it being built. Then after making this show we were in St George looking at the Gunlock Falls which only run for a few days every few years. So that’s cool. Anyway I said let’s get a room at desert pearl. It’s off season. Be affordable and they will have rooms. Nope. 250 off season internet price and sold out for weeks. Walking on it at night must be very exciting too! Thank you for this amazing video! (P.S There is a typo on the title about "Lucin")
Oops fixed the typo. We figured out how to get out there!!! Again oops. There is a new landfill at Promontory point. Knew about that but wondered why they would be willing to drive trash 150 miles around the lake on bad roads to get there. Well they have put in a fine new road. On the causeway! Straight out 12 th street about 15 miles and you are there. Right next to the wood salvage for the trestle. Road Trip!!!!!!!
Left you a post on "Carney's Diner". Make sure to check it out. Thank you, I have always been curious about the big trestle. You made a nice link to Pearl Valley Inn. I am a woodworker and can certainly appreciate that old growth wood both for its beauty and value. The history regarding this endeavour is astonishing as well. I learned something.
Hello! This is such an interesting place. And we just found out there is a new public road on the eastern side of it. They built a landfill out there and the road they use is on the causeway. So back out there we go!
In this edition or the Utah Historical Quarterly there is an article about the community of Bridge that was located on the Lucin Cutoff. issuu.com/utah10/docs/volume_53_1985

The Lucin cutoff is easily gotten to. You just hang a left at Snowville and head out to Lucin. There is a Russian man that bought the place and he builds Ultralite airplanes out there. There was an old wrecked wooden reefer out there, but I think UP cleaned it up. You can go out there anytime!

YES!! Mostly for the wrong reason though. When they replaced the wools trestle with a causeway it messed up the salt levels.
