Dont hesitate to work on rudiments on the drums and cymbals with no bass drum action at all. Do a half hour or hour just hands working around the drums. You dont need the whole rudiment arsenal but the basics. Bring in the bass drum or double pedal later. Work on your hands around the drums. All that crazy stuff you hear these guys pull off today is their abilities to apply rudiments to the kit. Lots of drummers get too caught up in bass drum interaction. Its important but not at the expense of solid stick work.
