Bruce Springsteen Kitty's back song reaction. This is an earlier song from the boss which shows him embracing jazz. This song has a strong jazz influence.Sprinsteen's singing as well is a lot softer than usual.

IMO, this is absolutely the BEST Springsteen album.
Keyboards on the album are the amazing David Sancious who soon left the band to form a jazz fusion group. For a good live version find the video from 1975 Hammersmith Odeon. Also, if you like this one you'll also lik NYC Serenade from the same studio album
I’ve seen that whole legendary concert that really put Bruce on the map!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think the one they played in 2014 is bigger..
With the experience they played it perfectly especially Roy Bittan
@@mxschrtt9194 As much as I've continued to love his tours I don't see how anything later career matches up with the energy of the 70s shows.
New York City Serenade, the closer from this album might be his finest recording put to tape, nothing evokes gritty NyC in 1973 like this masterpiece. Bruce captured the mood of the city as well as De Nero and Scorsese ever did. And David Sancious string arrangement is Leonard Bernstein level stuff. If you liked Bruce widening his sound palette on Kittys Back then NYC serenade is a must.btw Bruce did the guitars, he’s awesome
The second side of this album with Incident on 57th Street, Rosalita, and NYC Serenade is one of my all time favorite sides of music. Much like Elton John, Bruce when he was young and hungry was so much different than 'famous' Bruce.
Love your comment on Kitty’s Back. Notice the lyrics too - all cat-related: alley, trash cans, topcat, so soft, fence, tin cans, Catlong, Kitty, etc.
Loved David Sancious influences and his intro on “NYC Serenade” - brilliant. Thanks ✨🤪
@@michaelkeefe8494 absolutely, incident is just a joy. i think i had seen Bruce over 20 times then one night he finally played incident. i got a bit emotional
this album is one of the best ive ever heard
The keyboardist here was David Sancious. After they recorded the song Born to Run, he and the drummer, Boom Carter, left to form the Jazz group Tone. At that point there were 6 people in the band, 3 white and 3 black. Here's a link to a live video of it from 1975. ruclips.net/video/RWRlqFywXTY/видео.html. There are a lot of sides to Bruce Springsteen! Those that only listen to Born in the USA are missing a lot.
This wasn't Danny and Max?
@@samfisher6606 Danny was there playing organ. Max joined at the same time Roy did after an audition.
Bruce, Danny, Garry, David,, Boom and Clarence were the band that recorded BTR.
@@cfraase were those the two at the E Street Hall of Fame induction? I thought their names were Vini Lopez and David Sancious
@@samfisher6606 Which induction? At Bruce's I think Vini Lopez, David Sancious, Danny Federici, Garry Talent, Stevie Vann Zandt, Roy Bitten, Max Weinberg, Patti Scialfa, Nils Lofgren and Clarence Clemons were all there. Boom Carter was mentioned, but he only played with the band for a short time and recorded only Born to Run (the song) and wasn't included. By the time the band was inducted both Danny and Clarence had passed away, sadly.
Wow, I forgot about this song. It's been close to 40 years since I last listened to this track. I forgot how great it is. This is Springsteen before he was The Boss--more like an assistant manager working his way up the ladder.
When you combine this song with the others on the album like "Rosalita" and "4th of July Asbury Park" you get an album that can stand up against any other by anybody.
Early Bruce is the best Bruce. Anything after born to run not so much.
David Sancious played hammond organ on this one.
What???? Darkness???? The River??? CLASSIC
My fave springsteen album. Pure magic and musicianship
This entire album is why I still think of him as a genius. I can listen to it multiple times a year and still find it a joy, particularly on a roadtrip.
I saw him live with this line up in 73 on the UC Santa Barbara campus in their basketball gym. They played for like 3 hrs. and they were perhaps the greatest live band I ever saw and I've seen a lot of great groups.
If you never listened to Bruce's first 2 albums you can't claim to know Bruce's music. Too many people judge him from Born to Run or Born in the USA and onward.
I fell in love with this Bruce and watched his journey from inside his Jersey Shore bubble from mid 70's till now. Been in his company on numerous occasions as he's still local and around. He has other songs with a laid back feel...so only the initiated would be surprised at his vocals outside of pure energy. Listen to" Meeting across the River".
Or "The Angel". He's multi dimensional
Master of any genre: Western Stars is his best album of the 21st century!
Enjoyed watching you discover a different side of Bruce! Thanks for giving the Boss a deep look Harri!! 💕 (Thanks Uncle Phil)
"The Promised Land" (live 1980, Tempe, AZ), or "Jackson Cage" (studio). The lyrics to Jackson Cage are as powerful as they come.
Jackson cage live performance on that same tour is very powerful as well
The keyboardist left Sprinsteen's band after this album to join a jazz band! This is why you hear a jazzy sound on this, my fave E Street Band tune
I was in Hugh school and my friend worked in a local recording studio, he called me and said you have to come down and watch this band. It was Bruce and the E street band recording this album, been hooked ever since!
There's a live version from the Born To Run tour "Live at the Hammersmith-Odeon"...but David Sancious had left the band by then and his signature organ solo is missing. Danny Federici is the sole organist but he does not attempt to copy David's solo.
David Sancious is the piano player on this song and he was still a teenager when this was recorded. Less than two years later he left Bruce's band with his own recording contract. They still work together occasionally.
Check out his 1973 live show from London's Hammersmith Odeon. This early stuff is what those of us of a certain age think of first when we think of Bruce. You definitely got a new sub from these Boss reactions.
All Bruce's early albums were made up of songs designed to be seen, heard and played LIVE! The idea was to keep surprising the audience, exhaust them by the shows end and leave everything out on the stage- as if it were the last concert Bruce and the band would ever perform.
Best album for Bruce and E Street
When Bruce presented the final recordings of this album to the record company they told him they would not release it. They wanted him to rerecord the songs with studio musicians instead of his band. He refused and they threatened that if he insisted on releasing it as is they would not promote it and it would just die- and that's exactly what happened. The record company actually told radio stations NOT to play the album!
I must admit, I also have never heard anything like this from the Boss. I liked it. Very different, but great! Something about it reminded me of Van Morrison. Not sure why 🤔
He was very heavily influenced by Van Morrison.
Bruce was once described by a music journalist as "like Van Morrison, if Van Morrison rode a Harley Davidson."
It’s a shame, not sure if David Sancious stayed in the band if Bruce would have left this style behind. After this, Bruce started to ditch the musically creative part of his music for more powerful lyrics and straight ahead rock. It’s a shame, this was some of his best, most interesting work! Hard to argue with BTR and Darkness but then he moved away from guitar playing and his musical creativity took a bit of a hit. I always go back to the earliest stuff of his. The best!
@@puckpaul810 Thats what happens when you listen to Jon Landau instead of your own instincts. Bruce was too insecure.
Sounds like he had been listening some to Moondance by Van Morrison when writing this one!
The first time I saw Bruce, I apparently said as I was walking out, "I've never heard music in four dimensions before".
You should react to the live version of this from Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 1975
It's Bruce on guitar! Also, this song inspired Thin Lizzy, not the other way around.
Only early Bruce could kick a song, literally, about a cat.
All Bruce live is the way! Try 1978 live prove it all night!
Kitty's Back in Perth might be my favorite.
Kitty’s Back came out in 1973. The Boys Are Back in Town was released in 1976. So if anything, they copied Bruce Springsteen. 😂
The drummer here (and his debut album) is Vinnie "Mad Dog" Lopez. Excellent drummer....combined a loose blues/jazz/swing feel with some powerhouse fills. You can hear his distinct style on both albums. Despite his talent, Bruce let him go as he was kind of a loose cannon. He would be replaced by Ernest "Boom" Carter for the next project..the recording of the song "Born To Run". Carter and David Sancious left to form their own jazz band called Tone. Max Weinberg then replaced Carter for the rest of the Born To Run sessions.
Listen to the live performance of this song in Perth in 2014. Practically every Bruce song sounds better live
You are opening a whole deep world. Bruce Is a very diverse artist. I could suggest at least 20 songs/performances that. Would surprise and blow you away.
For a starter react to "If I should Fall behind" live in New York City official video 2000.
Its awesome
Thank me later
Peter
Try the Seeger Sessions Live version of Open All Night
Nice reaction :) Enjoyed it very much. I think you will also like listening to 'New York Serenade' by Bruce from the same album. My favorite live version is from Rome, Italy circa 2013. For your own listening pleasure, may I suggest Bruce's "Nebraska" and "The Ghost of Tom Joad" albums? Cheers and keep up the great work!
Recommend Spirits of the Night from Welcome to Asbury Park, NJ.
Spirit in the night from Greetings from asbury Park, NJ, I think you mean
You mentioned wanting to see it live -
This is the best version I personally have seen/heard in the 30 odd times I've seen Bruce.
ruclips.net/video/byxcN899O0c/видео.html
This was in Hartford, CT in October 2012. It's a non-professional audience video, i.e. not a sound board audio so the sound isn't perfect but it still does the job. I was on the other side of the stage and a bit higher up. I've seen Bruce on Long Island where I used to live, NYC, New Jersey, North Carolina, Philly, and Connecticut, not a dud among them.
*Harri* What's a bloke gotta do to see you react to Bob Segar.? My 3 suggestions, could have been 30....
1) Turn the page
2) Against the wind
3) Like a Rock

I strongly suggest you have the lyrics for each and follow along. You will get more out of the songs that way (coming from a guy who sat up late at night in '84 as a 15 year old, reading the lyrics like it was a homework assignment, absorbing all of it and my mind opening up...)
I searched for you on Patreon but couldn't find you - do you have a link?
Bruce is great at everything he does. But he had no idea what kind of music he was playing here on his second album. This is not the rock god he became. Whatever this genre was it came and died. Of course, i know some people love this stuff and that's what makes music.
