I mean you gotta see where he’s coming from. Yes the DMV has artists but only really for people who are in the DMV. Places like Atlanta, LA, Chicago, New York, even Memphis pop out chart topping artists like every month. Charts aren’t everything we all know that but it shows who and what areas are really poppin. And as for New York no nothing about gang politics. New York is always popping out talent in all genres, it’s not like the DMV doesn’t but New York superstars always hype up the new talent and it makes them bigger (like Ice spice and Nicki). The DMV just doesn’t have any relevant superstars to boost new artists like other areas do. That’s all I meant *also there are other places I can replace LA with like Philly, places in Florida, shit even Canada 😭*

agreed man, the raw dmv sound is hard to get down with. the cadence isn't done well usually, and it'll go on one song without development for minutes. there's a reason people like idk, rico, and wale made it. they produce consistent, more commercial, well thought music man. the heavy street shit doesn't usually get a lot of traction with general audiences either, enhanced further since the dmv doesn't get much attention in the grand scheme. i feel like instead of calling out the people who proved themselves successful, we should look in the mirror and see what the difference is
