the battle of Abaou Qu was only a small part of it. after I saw Thunderbolt and saw how many people when into the OYW i can see why some people call it the bloodiest conflict in all of fiction

I agree with some of the statements, such as Ryu's death, and not to mention some of the supporting cast get more development in the series including hints of the relationships of Bright/Mirai and Amuro/Sayla, but the movies tend to give a realistic approach to Gundam by taking out the "enemy of the week" sub-plots and just feels like more an odyssey than a super robot show. Other than that, Tomino's original intention was to have the series as a war story in the vein of Starship Troopers.
I just finished the compilation movies a few weeks ago and have started Zeta. I appreciate how much fat was trimmed, but I intend to go back and watch the full 0079 anime. I want to see more of the character growth and more mobile suits. Especially the fight with the Gyan and more time with Matilda.

Unlike Macross , which was a science -fi packaged love story which was never as epic as Gundam.
I disagree. Yes to all what you are saying about Gundam, no to all you're saying about SDF-Macross. Macross' stakes was all of Humanity to save themselves from extinction. You can't really compare the two series.

This brings back so much memories I was in about 4th or 5th grade when I got encounters in space one of the best gundam games ever made 🔥 but this particular song is hits hard Cause you think about your people and all the loved ones you miss as well. Such a beautiful song and passionate Gundam4Ever

Despite being the final climatic battle in the war, the song is slow and strangely haunting, as if the very darkness of the fortress was at bear with the upbeat parts of the song where light is slowly overcoming.
When I watched the trilogy, I'm pretty sure it ended with the song "Beginning" in both the subbed and dubbed versions of the filmed, where as this played during the Battle of A Baoa Qu.

its debatable whether it's canon or not, but in Crossbone Dust (IIRC) it was mentioned that after the story in V-Gundam, the collapse of Earth Federation, and all major super power... each colonies are acting as a separate "country" while earth is again breaks apart into several nations. After that, they started war after war for resources (as it is getting scarce) and in the end, one by one, the colonies are destroyed with only a few left that still could sustain themselves with what resources they had. While earth is again on the brink of destruction, which then followed by the event of Turn A Gundam (presumably). So until the very end... human never change.

I prefer the pacing in the movies and the atmosphere. its much more hard sci-fi as opposed to the show's gundam hammers and beam tridents and in line with Tomino's vision and the rest of the shows. Most fans are pretty split on the movies/show though. You either love one or hate the other.

The trilogy version of this series with it's somber sountrack makes you see the true brutality and horror that was the One Year War. Amazing.
