  • Seasoning sticks in the Attic for Walking Sticks and Shillelaghs
First time I’ve seasoned sticks in the attic it is all hazel shanks but it seemed to season really well
Which stick should I work on first?

That's a lovely bunch of stick blanks! Great colour and shape.
The one with the fork at one end and the curve at the other is the one I'd go for.
Depending on how solid the wood is on that short bit, you could make a rustic cleek style from it. Just take off the top few inches and round the top over so it flows into the short bit. Then take a bit off the inside of the curve to make it flow into the shank. Strip the bark so it's about even with the tip of the short bit. Carve the nose into a ~ shape and you're done.

I'm enjoying your videos after geting a recommendation by chance. May I offer you a woodturner's tip please? Myself and my turning mates dry a lot of green wood so we paint PVA glue on the cut ends to slow drying and prevent cracks. It's very successful, even more so than wax, and only needs the cheapest PVA glue and no need to heat wax until the wood sizzles etc.
    Best wishes, Brendan.

Jp cutter attics get warm can cause mould on sticks and alot more cracking best place is a shelter outside under roof I put battening wood under shelter to hold my shanks drying with alot less cracking and most importantly airflow the warm attic will speed up drying process but at some cost hope my technique tip helps like you I'm not financially well off so scrap battening pine screwed under shelter is cheap as chips as for screws I look around industrial estates in roads find handy items including screws except haven't found the female variety lol 👍🐾🦊🍀

How long do you let them dry for?

Do you seal the ends to help stop the cracking?
