Guitar player here that never thought I’d delve into the world of bass. Heard a killer bassline in the car this morning and immediately decided I needed to pick up a budget one for myself to start playing around with. Found this exact beauty online available on sale at a local shop near me and had to snag it! Can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow…until then I’ll be watching all the videos :).
I just bought one of these. Mine is the sunburst finish, which is flawless along with the fretwork. It is absolutely stunning. It plays and sounds absolutely fantastic. I was not expecting an instrument this nice for this price. Well done Fender.
Best demo of this bass. I've been searching for the best starter bass for myself. I narrowed it down to a few Ibenez and Squire. After this review, I now know what I'm getting myself for Christmas 😂
I recommended fender for the starter because it's good with different amps. From my experience, if you go with Ibanez, buy the 5 string bass. They sound great, and the bridge is perfect, so your string will smooth like a butter
Squier seems to be Increasing in quality even the Affinity series, well done Squier. Now we have these Affinities without the Affinity legend on headstock. Big letters seventies style and gloss finish on head-face. I have the Sunburst with Indian laurel fretboard and the Black one with maple fretboard. They sound really good. Neck profile is modern C, going more to flat than the chunky side.
This bass is so much more than a beginners model. You can change the saddle, pickups and tuners for 200-300 and have a bass some would pay over a thousand for. Its just the name on the head stock that most get hung up on. These are killer basses at a great price.
Looks like a decent pice of gear. It would be nice to have some more left handed models to choose from. As right now we do have only 2 models available, and those are the same ones for I don’t even know how long.
I’ve been rocking a Dean Edge 09 to compliment my guitar work but I’m getting more serious and I think this is exactly what I need/want for my next one
it is a nice bass indeed, tested a couple of them the other day - not the best built quality to be honest, but it is a ~250 € bass after all...Had gone to the shop for an Affinity, but left with a Yamaha trbx174 instead - much better quality for exactly the same price...The guys at the store said that with the Affinity it is a matter of luck - some items are better composed than others, but again - I did like it and if I didn't have the chance to spot another bass in that price range I would've definitely bought it (and maybe one day I will)
@Diego Fernández hola! I'm very satisfied with the trbx, you won't regret it (not just as a first bass) and I'm sure it is better than the squier affinity (because I tried them both in a physical store where I went to buy the affinity, but bought the yamaha instead :) don't worry and buy it ;) (go for the red one - saw it in person - killer looks!)
Already have one ordered and on the way, but I do find it funny they say "thin and lightweight body" but you can't find it listed what kind of wood the body is. I am genuinely curious, but I guess for the price, as long as it doesn't feel like a toy it should be fine.
Hello, im very happy with that bass but i have some scratching sound issues with exactly that bass. When I press the Corpus lightly in the area where the knobs are located sounds like that come. Its not from the Bass pot connection, while moving the cable no problems. What can i do?
Has anyone had issues with this bass, specifically the jazz pick-up creating a lot of feedback? I've heard this is because technically jazz picks up being single coil are better suited when there are two of them which cancels out the feedback. I currently get a lot of ringing with this bass on my fender rumble
If its humming when on the jazz pickup then yeah its because its single coil. Any bass with single pickups will hum if you dont set the volume levels equal. I have one of these basses and it was very noisy on both pickups because the ground wire isn't soldered to the bridge. You can fix it by taking the bridge off (dont worry, it can go back on again without adjustment) and stripping some insulation off the ground wire, then folding the wire over itself so it has more contact with the bridge and then screwing the bridge back on.
I'm worried that my master tone control is stripped. The two pick up knobs turn and hit stopping points but this knob doesn't seem to do that. It just keeps turning with weak resistance. Is this common? I waited a couple months for my bass as Christmas sales were high, I noticed some blemishes on it. I hope I didn't get a floor model.
Ese tono azul y pickguard negro me gusta aunque preferiría un brazo enteramente de arce/maple. Pero Fender no va a sacar un monstruito que estéticamente sea similar al American performer.
Is there a reason why there isn't a PH in the Fender lineup? Am I crazy for wanting a P and a Stingray in one bass? I've never ever used the J alone on any of my PJs. But if I had a H (not the soapbar, looks terrible) there; oh man, that's two basses in one. QoL improvements provided by Fender. But no, I have to go to brands I don't really like to find that. Or lugg around on a P and Stingray. I have money for you Fender. I'd throw some at you if you change the J to H. And with a Squire and Fender line there would be a reason to upgrade within the brand. More sale for you. Win win.
@@lemxns03 I saw your post and I have looked at them before. Played around with the Config tool and I tried one at my local shop, but the neck just isn't for me. Too Jazzy imo. They are a great brand and it might change later down the line, but with setup of the VM4 and active electronics only it just didn't fit me. If they change to a passive only and a 41 or 42mm nut I might reconsider.

Have got one of these in Racing Red. Use it all the time for teaching, makes many superb noises 👍🏻

Bought this 2 months ago. Fantastic bass
Thank You so much for the easy explanation. I’m a beginner and this meant worlds to me. ❤
Gracias. I bought one last month. I'm a guitar player looking to learn bass. It sounds and plays great! BTW, also picked up a Rumble 40.
I love it I have the sunburst only thing I recommend changing is the bridge
Great demo... You have talent in this kind of field tx JP.
New to the music scene here. Picked one up just yesterday, and was kinda at loss about the twisty knobs. thanks for this info.
Wish I could learn bass one day, and this gonna be my 1st bass.
Thank you for this amazing video and explaining it so well!!
Great playing, Gloria! You sold me on one of these :)
im getting this bass for christmas, but in the sunburst colour :D so excited

Please make them with matching headstocks. Maybe not the affinity but a Squier PJ with a matching headstock or even full painted neck would be awesome

It’s Indian Laurel
