    Down booties are a game changer.

      I really like them for nights down into the 20’s for sure. Above that I haven’t felt the need for them.

    Awesome video and good stuff. I love the BFT

      Thanks man! I just go with the flow. No real agenda to my videos. I’ve also had quite a bit of experience developing outdoor products for the fishing/paddling sports… so I maybe have a bit of a different twist on my thoughts.

    I would love to hear how that rain jacket performs in the rain. I’m looking for something that doesn’t wet out. If you’re ever caught in foul weather be sure to post! Thanx in advance.

      I’ve used it multiple times when running in the the rain on trail and on the road…. It has never wetted out. The way the seam tapping is and the material. I just don’t see it wetting out.

    Juan, love the channel! Thanks for all the great information and gear reviews. Huge fan of Outdoor Vitals as well. Since you do winter backpacking, have you ever used the SealSkinz Waterproof socks?

      Thanks for the positive feedback! much appreciated! Yes, I actually made a video about how I use them during the winter months... look through my tips and strategies section to find it.

      @@joaquinmunoz5576 I'm planning to do the Tahoe Rim Trail this July if my work schedule allows it. I've done the JMT NOBO in 2021 and the HST in 2022... so I'm on a roll .. ha ha.

    Love outdoor vitals gear ,just really hard to get hold of here in the uk

    • @juanbackpacks

      I’m sure it also costs an arm and a leg to get stuff through customs as well. At least that’s what it seams like from the RUclips gear videos from folks in the UK.

    Good stuff. The Outdoor Vitals stuff appear to be on sale, so prices are even lower. You're right, I need to get out and do some hiking. Do you have the Quehanna trail on your list of stuff to do at all?

    • @juanbackpacks
      @juanbackpacks  Год назад +1

      Yes, I do have it on my list for PA. I was supposed to do it a couple months ago but work got in the way.. LOL. I usually plan my hiking a few months in advance because of my work schedule. I’ll ping you when I figure out when I might do the Quehanna Trail or similar.

    Like everyone else, I love my booties. I have the EE ones.
    The Vargo BOT 1L. I purchased one
    on clearance ($39.99) last month during Black Friday week. I also picked up its nesting BOT Bowl and its Cozy. It’s going to replace my Evernew MugPot 900.
    I’m very excited about this. With the BOT not only can I cold soak and have extra water capacity, I now can cook and eat later, store leftovers overnight,. and have an air tight container to take warm town food, or frozen yogurt to camp. All things I longed for when I was out on my two section hikes of 200 miles on PCT, and 300 on AZT this past fall.

    • @juanbackpacks
      @juanbackpacks  Год назад +1

      Yes.. booties! I resisted for years because of the weight but they definitely have a place in my winter gear now.
      The BOT sounds like a versatile piece of gear for sure!!! You outlined some great use cases for it! I looked at it as well but it just didn’t fit my style of eating/cooking. That being said, i have been getting more curious about trying cold soaking and having a BOT would give me flexibility to cook and cold soak.

      @@juanbackpacks I had just started dabbling with cold soaking. This fall on the AZT I took a Telenti Jar along with my cockpit/stove. ALOT of thru hikers do the same. Seems like everyone I met on AZT had both. I had hot breakfasts, and ate cold all day, and had hot dinners. I love the added lunch options cold soaking gave me. Especially nice to have more options when I’m at a resupply town with store that has limited food stock (Gas station... ). My favorite to cold soak for lunch was the Andrew Skurka beans, rice, cheese, and Fritos dish👍🏻

    Good gear tips, Juan, and I second your Outdoor Vitals gear recommendations. I purchased their Ultralight LoftTek Adventure Jacket last winter. During several cool-weather backpacking overnights on the Cumberland Plateau, river kayaking, and fly fishing excursions in the Smokies-all humid, wet conditions-the synthetic down performed well as a mid-layer insulator, even after submerging its sleeves up above my elbows. Durable, snag-resistant, water-repellent shell had held up well busting through laurel hells and portaging kayaks. Very comfortable under backpack straps. Vents well with front and under-arm zippers. Under a nylon windbreaker, it was surprisingly comfortable during an hour of outdoor chores today in 10° weather. I'm 5'9", 180#, and on my the size Large is pretty snug...definitely athletic cut and not a oversized, relaxed fit. OV recommends selecting one size larger than one normally does. The Medium size weighs in at 11.3 ounces, and I my Large tipped the scales at 13.4 ounces. It's now clearance priced at $99.97, or $89.97 for OV Members.

    Awesome gear Juan! I am most excited for my new trailnrunners, Topo Athletic Terraventure 3. Very comparable to Altra Lone Peaks but with a 3mm drop, Vibram megragrip sole and a rock plate. I've been wearing them to the gym and around town to break them in, looking forward to trying them on trail soon

      They TOPOS are an awesome shoe. I tried a pair of the Terraventures a couple years ago but they just didn’t work for my. I really need zero drop shoes. I gave then to my son with only about 25 miles on them.. he loved them and used them on our High Sierra Trail this year.

      Ultralight gear is always a risk for sure. Once I get about 300 miles on the gear I’ll do some really reviews.
