I love this song, always have always will.. so much emotion, albeit a bit cheesy. But putting myself in the “character’s” place in this video listening to the lyrics I think it works. Rock Me Tonite was already getting plenty of airplay in early 1984 before that stupid video hit MTV and the track itself is very strong. It captures the passion of its singer and the performance of a great rock band especially Bobby Chouinard (RIP) on drums. In many respects, MTV ruined rock music so the backlash in the early 1990's started with Seattle/Grunge (the anti-Glam movement) where everyone from Kurt Cobain to Smashing Pumpkins to Pearl Jam often looked like pure hell IN THEIR TWENTIES! So you have Kurt with Nirvana looking hungover in "Smells Like Teen Spirit" like he had not showered in a week. What did MTV *then* do? They replaced videos with real life series about sex and porn. Squier who wasn't exactly Cinderella (who should have been given a corporate sponsorship by Cover Girl for how much makeup they wore) still had to wear eyeliner and my reaction was 'what the hell is that?'. This performance is straight no frills rock and roll as it should be.
I never understood, its just a 4 min video, this guy gave us ALOT of great tunes we still hear regularly today!! I got this cassette in 84, i was 9. I remember cranking it and hearing All Night Long...another great tune!!!!
At least he is not lip syncing to his music like some do at concerts these days. His voice still has that unique vocal sound. He's still very good. It is hard to believe he is almost 70.
The video was an unappreciated masterpiece! I never understood the hate for that video. I worked out to that video, I studied particle physics to it and in the end I knew all the dance moves. Recently I put it on for my adult children and did the dance moves to it. They loved it. Love you Billy!

Billy opening for Queen at the Boston Garden was my very first live concert. I was 12 or so then, and was inspired to learn to play the guitar. I’m 46 now and have been playing ever since. Thanks Billy!!!

That's a helluva performance! Never knew the song could be expanded like that. At first it sounded like Billy Squier had lost some of his voice, but his timing was still dead-on, and once he warmed up to it, he belted out those lines perfectly! I actually like the original video, but it was always the song itself I really loved. Great groove, and everybody plays great.
There's not many singers from the 80's who can pick up their mic today and sing just as they did 30 years ago. I just played this for a friend, without showing him the video and said "What year was this performance?" He said, "I don't know....I'm guessing 82, 84? I can't remember what year the album came out or the tour that followed." Then I showed him the video and the year of this concert and he couldn't believe that Billy sounded EXACTLY the same!
