I am 43 and have played every Civ game. Even Colonization and pirates. I still remember losing a battleship vs. phalanx battle and being like wth? Ah the good ole days.
My COLONIZATION kept crashing 😢
perhaps because I was running it on a software emulator, and it reached some cap with allocated memory
What about the predecessor, Civilization/Advanced Civilization by Avalon Hill? I believe this was the first to come up with concepts like a tech tree etc. It was also more balanced than the later games, but played more slowly both in the board game and PC version
Tank lost vs miliz here
and selling the palace with every new city. free 200 cash :D
I LOVED Colonization - but also the first Civ, was just amazing!
I have played every civ game. I used to love playing civ 1 with my dad and friends. I've been hooked ever since.
I've learned EN by reading the techs descriptions. Thanks Microprose
same!
Started it on Amiga 500 and PC in 1992. Helped me learning english and history. Forever in my heart.
Yeah wonderfull times, i 1st started the game when i was sick. Didnt had a clue what im doing but had a great time(beside the floppy diskette changing)
I'm not a history major but I have discovered a passion for learning about history of humanity because of the game Civilization, particularly its tech tree. Looking at it is inspiring - it shows the big picture of how we grew from primitive beings to so intellectually advanced (even if lots of it were motivated by war). I even purchased a copy of The MacMillan World History Factfinder (1985) which Sid used to create the first tech tree. It makes me happy.
It pushed me into that direction as well, though I must admit I don't like what Civ 6 does about teaching history with basically intentional misleads... It's ironic that with better budget the quality of historical narration went down the drain as it's no longer of any real focus.
I miss the simplicity of older Civs. Being an adult gamer, it's hard to sink the hours necessary to master modern 4x games
Civ 6 is very simple tbh I mean all you gotta do is read
Get good
Early civs definitely weren't simple. What you actually miss is being young and having time =)
the only simple thing about the old games was the graphical fidelity lol
Simplicity?
I tried playing civ 1, it was really cool but the economy/army/building balance is really hard to get, even in prince difficulty.
Put 1 & 2 on GoG please
Funny how the original Civilization (1980) by Tresham is not even mentioned. It is the reason why Civ1 is called Sid Meier's, for copyright reasons. MicroProse eventually bought it in 1997 after a legal dispute. And not only that. Tresham's 18xx series is the inspiration for the same Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon. At least Tresham was added to the UK Games Expo Hall of Fame.
I remember being in high school when the first Civilization game was released, and had started playing the game after dinner, past when my parents went to bed, just one more turn, and then next thing I knew there was sunlight coming in the window and I had stayed up all night playing the game.
I may have done that a few other times over the decades.
My brother and I took turns playing and sleeping during the school holidays (I was around 13) :)
"More rain, Noah predicts"
I miss Civ III the most. Peak of the entire Civ series IMHO.
Civ III, at least the Conquests expansion, is still available on GoG and Steam. You don't need a working disc to play it these days fortunately! If you mean the versions where you can use Military Great Leaders to rush Great Wonders, that might be a different story though.
@@Spoonwood civ IV was better, but it was a close-run thing. Since V, it's all been shite.
@@frankiethefrank See and for me Civ V is peak. I even played 4 and 3 again and was suprised "how bad" they were in comparison. But I loved them at the time.
@@justTyping Interesting. Maybe I should give it another whirl... I was catastrophically disappointed the first time I played it and deleted it pretty much right away... but mayhaps I was hasty?
@@frankiethefrank At least the final version with the add-ons are fine. If I remember correctly the basic game was also tough for me. especially the basic change of the board with just one unit per tile. but you get use to it. with add-ons I think it is good. And currently the add-ons should not be to expensive I think.
I like how religion works more in V. Especially how it is foundet. The religious war starts can be a bit annoying but not as it is in 6. The annying think is that the missionaries wandering through your land and the AI do not always care that you say you dont want them.
I would say give it try without blaming me if it still feels bad :D
Civ Rev is my favorite!!
Thanks Sid Meier!
Please put the Civilization and Civilization II complete series on Steam, GOG, and the other gaming outlets.
I've got the discs, but others need to try the fantasy and sci-fi versions from that collection.
I'll find the actual name and add a new comment with that when I get home after work.
I think there's going to be copyright issues with that, remember this is when you had the Firaxis breakaway from Microprose and Hasbro/Activision buying the Civ rights
Just to think on the MIDI music at the beginning gives me goosebumps
pls make SMART AI in CIV7
(in CIV6 Ai is not smart)
There was never a really smart AI in either games. I think Civ 6 has the best AI but it still needs improvement!
Okay cool. When are you going to release its remaster?
They'll call it Civilization I (Firaxis's Version).
Was a teenager when I played this on PC, learned alot about the world, history, and how things progressed. Looking back, I loved how things were not as complex in Civ 1 - I was very much overwhelmed by Civ 6 and its various game mechanics when I first bought the game (since I never played Civ 3,4,5)... took a few tries to understand how things work (building districts, policy cards etc.)
Our words are backed by nuclear weapons!!
I loved the medieval times feeling during Civ 4.
I'm with the people asking for the re-releases/remasters of Civs 1 and 2. That would be fantastic!
I used to buy the boxed deluxe versions because i loved the charts and thick rule book that came with the game, so that even when i could not play the game because of work i could and did read the rule book on the train ride, i love the civ games.
From the first stirrings of life on the CD-ROM...
Played 1,3,5 and 6.
Thanks for entertaining me ca 10% of my life
Can't believe you skipped 4!
I used to play it on my Amstrad 1640 (086). It was a great time...
Sid Meier’s Civilization: Build a Game to Stand the Test of Time
My first love :D
I still remember my first game at some friends house 33 years ago.
I only played the pc version then but I still remember we didn't build a single settler and you could build your palace with different parts when hitting some milestones.
I had to wait years but when it released on the SNES I finally got it and since then I've been hooked on the franchise.
If I remember correctly , I had it on 6 floppy disks. Great times.
Excited to see what they have been cooking in August.
Wr want civ 1-2 and test of time remake
I played it back in the day. I remember building a castle or something.
Civilization was one of the very first games I bought for my first computer. It was definitely the first strategy game. I played it and Medieval Lords to death.
looking forward for VII
I lost a lot of sleep playing this one.
oh man i wish you guys would make a proper remake of alpha centauri.
2 was so much better and was the first one I got hooked on 😁
My Dad and I used to play Civ VI together until he expoited the Scythia Horse economy and I put myself up for adoption
I was 13 and OBSESSED
This is the real deal Civilization game. The last good Civ game was Civ IV.
It’s boggles my mind i never got this on Amiga.. And i really dunno why because with the 2nd installment it became my favorite
I grew up on Civ 2 and I can't wrap my head around the new ones. "Religious victory", "tourism", I'm sure they're fun but I'm an old woman now, I can't learn new concepts so easily. In my day you killed everyone or went to the stars.
Even these graphics are better than the visuals of civ 6
Anyone gona talk about how Abe Lincoln called him self the Emperor of the Americans? lol.
I played it a few days ago
Played 1,2,3,4
(Pretend I never play 5)
I had the Amiga version and have loved the series.
Please release native Linux version (like there was for the last 2)
Civ on DS
15 Leaders? There were 14 civilizations, each with a single default leader. Who was the 15th leader?
Just read ones that Germans was not initialy planned for CivI and than get rushed in with wrong spelling names. They even thought about putting the horrible dictator of the 30s/40s as a leader.
Civ 1 had stalin as an leader lol
Hoping for like a future dlc let’s say that has every wartime leader
@Mintcar923 yeah but Stalin was worst than Hitler haha, and Adolf wasn't an boy scout
@@StaryBrudnyLis187 Well with all due respect the gaming version of ghandi is kinda worse than both even according to official narrative lol The beauty of Civ tho is you can play known warmongers as pacifists and vice versa
I liked playing “tall” in civ 5 I didn’t like districts in civ 6
Civ V is still goated. Best Soundtrack
I am a Long time player of Civ but did not care for VI
