This tenant is taking advantage of this young man because according to him(tenant) he knows the landlord’s mother. That’s nonsense, it’s strictly business. Always have a written contract with your tenants which should include move-in date and term of the tenancy, ie how long tenant hopes to rent, how much is the rent and hue often rent will be paid, monthly or yearly, what tenant is allowed to do and is not allowed to do with property and tenant should keep property in good condition and the consequences of not paying rent when due and then both tenant and landlord should sign and each person gets a copy of the agree which is legally binding. The landlord must issue tenant with a receipt signed by landlord, that way he can keep tabs of when and how payment was made, cash, bank draft, personal check bank transfer into landlord’s account. Do this and there will be no ‘he said, she said’ nonsense. This man says he’s a Christian, the Bible says pay your debt. This is for all you landlords. You can choose to give your tenant a grace period after which you can evict, this should also be part of the original contract.
