  • In this episode, I've taken the Campfire Defender Pop Up Fire Pit out into Hoosier National Forest and I'm giving it a real world test. The marketing for this product claims that it burns more efficiently, gets more airflow, and has reduced smoke. So, is that the case?

    The sides go on first, with the mesh on top. The sides put tension on the burn screen and keep embers from blowing out. It would Not be safe to us in a burn restricted area, without the sides.

      Yeah, true. We don't really have burn restrictions very often in IN which is why I don't have the sides, but the sides are really nice.

    Awesome Video! Great product. Interesting to see it without the sides installed. That makes it even lighter/easier to carry. Might try that next time!

      Thanks! Your review was good too, :D. It's cool to see it both ways. The walls definitely have some benefits, but I'm an Indiana boy so I'm used to fires on the ground. This is a bit of a departure so I just figured I'd use it a few times a year at expos or the like. However, after using it last time, I think I plan to use it every time going forward. Lifting the fire off the ground makes it warmer when sitting in a chair and it burns so much more efficiently that I really prefer it to a ground fire now. Thanks for the comment and keep up the good work on your channel!

    Great video and honest review. Does it retain smell in the mesh? Wondering about odors if stored inside a vehicle...

    • @AllThingsOverlanding
      @AllThingsOverlanding  3 года назад

      That’s actually a really great question. I’m sure that it does retain some. Once you shake all the ashes off and put it back in the bag though, I have never noticed it to be overwhelming or anything that made me think about the smell coming from the fire pit. So, probably but it isn’t so bad that I’ve ever really consciously noticed it.

      @@daviddrabek5834 Anytime! Let me know if any other questions come up. Always happy to help. I went with my 05 because when I was looking 4 years ago, 99-2001 Toyota 4Runners were $10-11K with 150K plus miles and I got my 05 Xterra SE with 94K miles for $7K. They're a steal for the money and while they aren't quite as good a a Toyota, they're (in my opinion) definitely worth it for the price difference.

    What are the benefits of the walls? I’m a new subscriber and I like your style of presentation...thank you 👍

    • @AllThingsOverlanding
      @AllThingsOverlanding  3 года назад +1

      Hi and thanks! I think the main benefits are just that it contains the fire a bit more and keeps ashes and logs from spilling off the side. That’s why I chose not to get it because it didn’t seem worth the money to me.

    What's the max temperature threshold?

    • @AllThingsOverlanding
      @AllThingsOverlanding  3 года назад

      That's a great question. And, unfortunately, I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere to it. I will say that in using it, I had 4 or 5 good sized logs on it and a number of smaller sticks and it was burning very hot and efficiently and it didn't seem to hurt the mesh at all. I believe it could likely handle whatever temps a wood fire could put out.

    How can you cook on it?

    • @AllThingsOverlanding
      @AllThingsOverlanding  3 года назад

      Good question. The nice thing about the fire pit is that it's modular. So, if you get the one that has the "walls" on it (Link: amzn.to/37X0vp8), you also get some other options that make cooking really easy.
      It looks like there are a couple of options (a tri-fold and a quad-fold). They're a little pricey, but they're made for the fire pit so if you plan to use it to cook a lot, it would be a good investment. Here's the tri-fold: amzn.to/38UzfYE. And here's the quad-fold: amzn.to/3nWLjwu.
