  • As someone who has never been too big into long distance running, a half marathon is not going to be easy, especially at 215 pounds. I ran one a few years back just to see if I could finish, but this time I'm looking to step it up a notch and keep it under 1:55.
    I'm taking a different approach to training for this by incorporating Fitness Cultures new HEAT Program.
    Can this program get me Half Marathon ready?

    Been following since early 2017 and I tell you what, this current phase you’re in is so fun to watch. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed every chapter you’ve brought us through, but this one has been awesome! Thanks for the entertainment, Steve!

    Love seeing you move into different aspects of training. As I moved into my 40's I found that I needed to pivot and have various outlets of maintaining my physical and mental health. Having specific days geared towards lifting, cardio, stretching and mediation keep me more balanced. Keep these vlogs coming!

    Pretty impressive to be able to run two sub 6 min miles at your size 👍🏾 I agree with what you said about setting up systems. I’m currently trying to do the same.

    Steve, check out barefoot shoes! Xero, Vivobarefoot, Lems, Altra, etc. They have wide toe boxes and a zero drop sole which helps your knees, lower back, etc. We weren’t meant to run on those thick Hoka cushions.

    Steve is the GOAT but distance running requires simple, tried and tested principles. Need to incorporate more easy running to build your aerobic base, dont push too hard/reinvent the wheel. 80/20 easy running vs threshold/speed work, the formula is there. Its not accurate to suggest the HITT sessions build your aerobic base, easy running is how you optimise on your mitochondrial efficiency. Keep it simple & consistent.

    You could make your own protein powder pumpkin mix, pumpkin, pumpkin creamer, cinnamon, heat it on the stove top and then add a vanilla protein powder to it that could work 🧐🤔…..

    Knowing how hard to go to allow for proper work and recovery. It’s very different at almost 50 vs 35. For me, playing pickup basketball for 2 hours now takes a day to recover. Gym workouts are best at 30-45 minutes 5 days a week vs longer sessions 3 days a week. It’s all understanding how you recover and pushing, but not so hard you blow up.

      Seemed like Steve was kinda throwing some shade at Nick and the “hybrid” training style in the first video of this series. Kinda interested in seeing Steve’s approach to this style training. I’ve learned a lot about running from Nick but I’ve also learned so much about lifting from Steve.

    • @ChewieTomatoes1
      @ChewieTomatoes1 11 месяцев назад +1

      Nah. Nick is great but not without his cheesiness. I can only take so many of his idioms - “Go One More”, “All In, not All Consumed”, “Fart Louder and Prouder” etc.
      I can only take so much.
