For those wondering why the World of Tanks Tiger 1's turret looks weird and why it's actually the prototype of the Tiger, the VK 45.01 (H) H2 . The turret of this prototype had a 75mm cannon but it was discarded in favor of the VK 45.01 (H) H1 which had the turret of the Tiger that we know and love, later this turret would be reused in the Panther project that's why it is so similar to the Panther.
@Mark3nd To tell you the truth, I also always thought that the turrets came from Porshe, but in fact all the turrets of the Tiger 1 and Tiger 2 were already created by Krupp. It was only on the chassis that Henshel and Porsche competed, this design was Krupp's idea for a 75mm turret but the high command wanted the 88mm, so in the end the turret was made by Krupp to fit the 88. The Tiger 2 with P turret and the same thing, was created by Krupp as an early production model, Henshel and Porshe competed again for the hull and again Porshe lost so Porshe never made his own turret design with the exception of the Ferdinands.
@@leonardorodrigues827 good to know then. Well I guess we can both agree on one thing that makes these big cats known for: The 8.8cm Gun. Those heavy tanks were fucked up and just sat there. The wheels of the Tiger 1 still get mud entrapped between. Porsche's Tiger has a... much preferable choice in wheel and suspension. Though the hybrid of the tank powerpack is very efficient, but it was too advanced for it's time back then. That is where the hybrid pack got its own inspiration from since Porsche really did invented the hybrid for tanks first. Really it is a good idea to save tons of fuel for the bad times, just not the best time to really pull it off. The only real tanks I would see that saw most of the war are the Panzers and StuGs. Maybe an occasional Panther to, but that would be the end of the war. You see more Panzer IVs, StuGs, Panthers and maybe the JagdPanther and JagdPz IV than Tigers.
@@Mark3nd This is true, tanks like the Panzer III, Panzer IV, Stugs and even the Czech Panzer 38 were for a long time the main force of German tanks but things began to change with two factors: France and the Soviet Union. In France the Somua and Char B1 bis tanks were a challenge, especially the B1 which was able to take a lot of damage and fight back hard. And when it was the Soviet Union the T-34 and KV-s were a monster, if I'm not mistaken it was after Kursk that the Panzer IIIs were withdrawn from service, the need for a heavy armored vehicle arose but it was done in a hurry and many models came with problems. For an example, let's compare the Churchill with the Tiger and the Panther, the first Churchills Mark 1 and Mark 2 were full of problems, whether in the engine, suspension, armor, mobility and the same happened in the Tigers and Panthers. The rush to create a heavy tank was a problem, but at least they weren't that serious since England managed to fix several problems with the Churchill, in Germany they made improvements but problems with the transmission and suspension were very common and it's not uncommon to find reports of German crews reporting these problems. As you said, Porsche tried to make an extremely functional tank, but the high command saw the project as being too complicated. They wanted a heavy tank to replace the tank losses and preferred something simpler like Henshel. And another example was the Ferdinand, Porsche tried to build a great tank destroyer and it has positive points like high armor and good firepower, but the suspension and the engine always haunted the Ferdinand, it's to make matters worse, most of them were sent to Italy was a mountainous country that didn't contribute anything to Ferdinand, and Porshe tried to fix the problems but in the end it didn't achieve much. I'm not trying to take away reason from the Tigers and Panthers, they are good tanks but at the same time they were great, they had serious problems. Every tank has a positive side and a negative side, but in the case of the German big cats and a highlight, I would like to think that if Germany had given it more time, it could have been like Churchill, who from the Mark III and Mark IV were quite reliable. And just a personal opinion of mine, but I think that in a way it is quite valid.
@@leonardorodrigues827 Yes, still a main gun to deal with them was more of a problem solver. But even at the beginning, those models stayed throughout the war. Heavy tanks were more created for the defense of a city or position. Germany created the best defense tanks with armor and firepower in mind. America created assault tanks like the Tank Destroyers M10, M18, and M36. And besides, its Military Doctrine that dictates from current real time war to plans that produce these vehicles. The Soviets were nothing more than cheap for shit. They basically created their own, throw away weapons. Even the IS series were heavy, but they weren't built to last. Because whatever the Soviets built followed the T-34 Doctrine: Just send shit and overwhelm them more with shit.

Tiger I
Overhyped by history channels, suffers on everything from games (being matched against tank that performs similar or better) to irl (technical failure lol).
