***Note (if your pilot light keeps going off):
If it senses that your water heater pilot light keeps going out, the thermocouple will shift off the gas supply to the heater. Over time, thermocouples can malfunction, accumulate dust buildup, or the device can get bent away from the pilot light's flame.
For Honeywell Smart Gas Heater: Turn the dial to "VERY HOT" for 10 seconds, then turn it to "HOT" for 10 seconds, then "PILOT" for 10 seconds, look at the LED it should flash 1 time, then turn 'HOT" for 15 seconds then the pilot should light up.

Thank you so much for this! I used google camera search to find this model and it linked me to your video. I turned the knob multiple times and nothing seemed to happen but then after waiting for a little bit I heard the furnace come on and then saw the pilot ignite. Thank you!

The best video! I will add 1 thing to make it helpful....when he says to toggle 7 times....just toggle until the pilot light (it will BC it's an automatic light function)

In case this is helpful to others…
I had this 6-3 error code but this reset procedure did not work for me. After the reset the pilot light would ignite and then the main burner would ignite. But after a few minutes it would go out. The user guide notes this code can be due to a air inlet obstruction. The air inlets are the perforated areas at the base to the left and right of the equipment panel. I noticed my air inlets were dusty. I vacuumed them and then reset the water heater. That did the trick for me and it has been running without a problem for a week now.

I’ve used this method so many times and it’s worked great for temporary uses. However, recently, even with this method, my boiler turns on but then immediately turns off after even when I saw the pilot light on. What could be the issue?

Same thermostat but my status light is off. I’ve tried turning the breaker box on/off and it just won’t turn on

I have the Honeywell v24 and I've got the 8-3 flash but it won't stay lit more then 30sec I'm not sure what the issue is it just says electronics fault any idea.

Your gas water heater might have a bad Thermal Coupler. Buy it from Home Depot or Lowe's to replace it.

If the pilot doesn't relight, if it goes out right after lighting or if it goes out repeatedly, by far the most common cause is a bad thermocouple or needs to be clean.

@@macdaddypimpping Yes I did it correctly but what I ended up doing was drain the water heater completely and let it refill and it worked fine after following the steps in your video. I noticed that when I drained the water heater it had a lot of particles in random stuff in the water but it worked after doing all that.

It works the water heats up... but I have to keep reseting it in like almost every 2 to 3 days ...
"Usually, a problem with the thermocouple causes the pilot light to go out. The thermocouple is the small copper rod that the pilot light hits. The thermocouple's job is to shut a gas safety valve if the pilot light goes out. That's important because gas is always being supplied to the pilot to keep the flame lit."

I have tried this a good 30 times there is no space between the floor and the bottom of my tank so there is no way to clean underneath. I have tried it your way and the way it says on the tank. There are different instructions on my tank it says unplug set to low switch off wait 5 mins switch back on set to desired temperature plug back in. When I turn it back to the on position it blinks once very quickly then goes back to blinking 7 times. Now what?

You might want to Google the review on tankless water heater, it might be expensive to do the whole setup, gas line, exhaust pipes.
Our restarted using these instructions but then it went out again. :(
Check your gas line(does it have a earthquake valve near the gas meter outside), or it could be the thermal coupler is bad.
So heart beat is ok ? My water seems not as hot

If your gas water heater keeps shutting off, the thermocouple could be dirty, bent or damaged. The thermocouple is usually easily visible next to the pilot light. Inspect the thermocouple to determine if it is dirty or damaged in some way. If it is dirty, turn off the gas to allow the thermocouple to cool.
