That Ah Duo - Lishu moment still gets me 😭 they really filled those roles missing from each other's life while in the palace (Ah Duo and her child, Lishu and her mom)
When they said Ah-Duo was the daughter of a nurse, they didn't mean a medical one. They meant a wetnurse, a woman who breastfeeds babies that aren't hers; in this case, she was responsible for nursing the emperor. Ah-Duo and the current emperor are called "milk siblings" because they were both nursed by the same woman. And it's why they shared such a close relationship and why she said they're "going back to" being friends.
the implication was that Ah Duo was Jinshi's mom and he knew about it, but nobody else knew, so it was treated as a secret of the royal court. That is why, after losing her uterus, she remained to watch her son from a safe distance.
@@johnyshadowin the novel is heavily implied Luomen made sure she grew up well even if that meant he would go without food. Also granny wouldn’t let her go hungry either.
Ah-Duo probably stayed in the rear palace to be close to Jinshi even tho she had no point being there since she can't conceive anymore, I always wondered if he was crying bc he wouldn't be able to see her anymore, like ever.
She is only getting kicked out because she cannot produce children. If her son had not died she would have likely became empress. The fact that she stayed in the rear palace for so long is supposed to hint at how much she means to the emperor. Jinshi claims to be 24. If he is the crown prince like suggested he would be 19 not 17. The translation doesn't do a good job explaining this. No one said the baby died immediately. In other countries age starts at birth, so 1 year. Then lived about 2 more years poisoned with honey which is why the death happened 16 years ago. Im pretty sure they have said the prince is 19 by now. As for Maomaos speculation she is guessing Ah Do might swap her son because until the current emperor would have become emperor her son would have always been second to any needs of that prince as proved by them almost allowing her to die in birth so the doctor could deliver the prince. Keep in mind Ah Do comes from a high ranking noble family, her mom is not just a nurse maid. Her mom is a noble, honored with the "privilege" to care for the next heir. However it further illustrates why Ah Do might consider swapping. Her mom would have had to fed the heir first. If there was no milk left the expectation would be for Ah Dos mom to let her starve. Everything in service to the royal family.
Yeah she moving to another palace is also part of that. Any other lady in her situation would be send away back to her family and in considerable shame; he made sure she would still live there close cause she’s not only his best friend but one of the very few people the Emperor can actually trust.
11:15 Its a nice little delusion. Maomao is prone to make theories based on conjunction and her father warned her about it. You shouldnt forget that. Also Ah-Duo will be living a good life. It was mentioned last episode. She will be living in some kind of palace. She is the emperors childhood friend after all. Its just that she wont be living in the rear palace anymore. You shouldnt worry about her.
16:59 if the other child would still be alive, he probably wouldn't have to go with her since he would be seen as the current emperor's only son and oldest child, so his heir. If the babies were swapped and that got noticed at some point, this child would probably have grown up as the emperor's younger brother and Ah-Duo's real child would provably have been placed back as the emperor's son (I assume that not a lot of people would know what they look like so it could be done). But because that child died, proclaiming the actual son (probably Jinshi) as heir of the emperor is kind of difficult now. If that is Jinshi, that would explain his somewhat awkward position at the palace
15:44 "I can't believe I ever said a bad word about her." Lol the standard Ah Duo experience of going from 🤨to 😍 (if it's not standard it's at least mine) I'm guessing the place she retired to isn't half bad. She was a favorite consort and friend of the emperor after all.
Congratulations!!!!!!🎉🎉 Carlie and Ange for hitting 200k subscribers. I hope you keep making such amazing content and keep up the good work and keep growing. Again Congratulations!! to both of you 🎉🎉
Man I figured it out the moment I saw Ah-Duo that she's Jinshi's mom and him crying she's leaving just confirmed it. Love this show, no cringe dialogue and actually well written.
Please please please check out Undead Unluck after this. Its so good and has an awesome female lead and wildly unique story that I'm sure you'll be hooked on. Its just wonderful and unfairly underrated
Loved ur commentary at the end. Keep guessing things, it's really cute and u guys are smart ^^ Even having "shitty" or "far fetch" theories is always hella fun imo ahah
so, she swapped them because her son would be the next in line to the throne (current emperor first born male), he will be less in danger as the emperor's brother, not in a direct line to the throne, just a "spare", he'd be free. Also they said she was a nurse's daughter, I thin they meant a wet nurse. She's like a sister to the emperor, because her mother was his wet nurse. She said she'll now return to be his friend and not his concubine, they were childhood friends and he cares for her still, so she's going to be fine, she'll live a free life now tho.
I think they (Ah-Duo & Jinshi) drank together as a goodbye, then Ah Duo left Jinshi to go outside to maybe not get emotional, on the otherhand Jinshi cried a little (while holding MaoMao)
so i now that in old china when you are the next to the throne ,if you have sisters is okey but if you have brothers your life can be more at risk because you can become the new emperor, so the other family of your "half brother" will try to end you (thats also why emperor need a wife but also concubines, to ensure at least one male child reach adulthood) an thats why gyokko having a kid is not a "big deal" because she is a female, but lihua was a boy so if he would stay alive for now he would be next on throne, but thats a theory from me and real asian reamls xd
i don't think it was some kind of plan to do a baby swap... i think the doc messed up and they didn't figure it out until the baby died. she just went along with keeping quiet about it
Ah Duo was having the baby of the now current Emperor (at this time he was only the prince) and the other consort was having the baby of the then current Emperor (now deceased former Emperor). It seemed like the other baby had a difficult delivery and may have been born sick. Fearing that when the baby died, the then current emperor could have removed Ah Duo from the rear palace because she could no longer have kids and take her baby away from her as a way of retaliation against his son she agreed to swap the babies. Luomen fearing that he could die because the Emperor would blame him for his son dying probably agreed to swap the babies. I think at some point the Emperor or the Prince found out, but decided to keep it a secret for the sake of keeping face. Now after the old Emperor died and the current Emperor is the ruler, they keep the identity of the younger brother (in reality the new Emperor's son) a secret by claiming that he is sickly and needs to be remained inside the palace for his own health. At least that's my understanding of the situation, meaning that Fengming killed the other baby with honey to ensure the swap would be permanent. Her family has ran an apiary for generations, it's kinda hard to believe that they didn't know that some types of honey could be fatal to babies, specially ones that have a weak immune system. It really makes you see Fengming in a different light. She really loved Ah Duo and eventually gave her life to take the secret to her grave.
I don't think Fengming did it on purpose. Even though her family runs an apiary, not everyone knows about botulism poisoning (which is the reason you should never give any honey to an infant). The spores of the bacteria wouldn't be discovered for centuries after this is supposedly set. And if she did do it on purpose, her outburst at having believed she killed Ah-Duo's only child wouldn't make sense.
To clarify, jinshi is the son of the current empora but was swapped with the son of the previous empora, so people think he is brother. As the only son of the current empora her is by rights crown prince and the next empora.
No one said it, so I will. The reason she switched them is because the emperess is higher of importance because her child is the emperor's son, while her child was the crown prince's son. If both babies are in danger, then her son is less likely to receive care in time. So she switched them so her son would live. It's implied the emperor knew as well and that's why she was treat so well despite fact that she could no longer be emperess.
It seems like a logical reason, but if you think about it, the son of the crown prince has a higher rank than the younger brother of the crown prince in terms of succession. The son of the crown prince is next in line for the throne once the crown prince becomes emperor. The younger brother of the crown prince only becomes emperor if the crown prince does not have any offspring. If quality of care of the babies were really based on rank and status, the son of Ah Duo and the Crown Prince should have had better quality medical care than the son of the Emperor and the Empress Dowager.
A little spoiler Ah Duo and the current emperor's wet nurse are the same person, and Ah Duo's mother is the wet nurse, but she later interacts with Mao Mao as an important person.
You guys have heard the name of Fengming a few times now and still read it like an english word... if u want to read the name its Fongming so you can pronounce it correctly... sorry if i sound like an irritating idiot and a smartass, but if you want to pronounce a name correctly you should listen to the sound of the name and not try to read it in your own language... Ngl, these two actually try to pronounce names or locations and ask us to comment how to pronounce them if they butchered them. Usually other creators don't even bother nor apologize. And even if it's just a little thing, they actively practice on camera saying names, that's kinda cute imo ^^

The second season was already announced. It's high probable that goes on air at beginning of October or next January.

But jinshi doesn't know 😅
This is also one of my favorite episode but honestly it gets better
One of the major theories, from the community, as to why Mao Mao doesn't look her age is that her development was stunted by her poison experiments.
I think a lot of people also said malnourishment...
@@johnyshadowin the novel is heavily implied Luomen made sure she grew up well even if that meant he would go without food. Also granny wouldn’t let her go hungry either.
@@biazacha Good points.
Or she's just petite
some women are just short. not every female lead needs to be 5’8”
To be a doctor at the rear palace required being a eunuch so Maomao's "father" could only be an adopted relationship.
Ah-Duo probably stayed in the rear palace to be close to Jinshi even tho she had no point being there since she can't conceive anymore, I always wondered if he was crying bc he wouldn't be able to see her anymore, like ever.
I think that they can meet each other again whenever they wish but no longer under tha same roof (the rear palace).
You guys cooking and uncooking~ 😂

I interpreted that as her wanting to be in close proximity of her son but yeah I forgot about politics
I imagine her guilt for having another child die for this plan tho
The baby did die immediately as Ah-Duo is shown telling Fengming and other maids that babies die for random reasons until they are 7 months old
Whether he suspects or not is probably besides the point, most likely Ah Duo was a mother figure to him in the palace and now she's leaving....
Ooo very interesting so, Jhin Shi is actualy the current emperor's son, but publicly he is his little brother.
Mannnn, y'all are cooking with these theories. I'm loving it, absolutely loving it!
