Another pub now closed was the Rising Sun in Harwich Street, really annoying when you are a young child and you are trying to sleep but you cant because of the loud music from the pub just a few doors away.
regarding the Guinea inn, William Henry Pettman was my great X...whatever grandfather, he also owned the property next door where he lived, when the pub shut in 1981, my dad wanted to buy it but couldnt afford it, all he managed to obtain was the metal pub sign that use to hang outside the pub, you are right about the link to smuggling guineas, youve done your research well. I would like to buy it, get it back into the family, but with a market value of a million pounds, its not going to happen, unless i win the lottery, or marry into the Green family, and I cant see either happening. William Henry Pettman also use to own the old tudor tea room.
