THANK FOR THE INFORMATION ON HOW TO INSTALL THE IDIDIT STEERING COLUMN I HAVE A 65 EL CAMINO & I WANT A TILT THANKS FOR SHOWING ALL THE THINGS NEEDED THE DD BAR & U-JOINTS.I HOPE IT COMES OUT AS EASY AS YOURS DID
Dam Bro appreciate your videos detailed on how to helping me out alot im here in Vegas putting one together and going threw all your vids lol thanks Alot
Yo I need to help please I got a 64 took off the old coupler what size are those round spline end I’m guessing 3/4 and then THE new STEERING WHEEL shaft has the DD END WHICH PART WOUKD I USE
Hey brother I have a 1963 impala where can I get the billet spacer that goes between the steering column and the dash..I just need the billet spacer only..thanks
Brandon Newman I used, JB Weld Kwik Plastik Epoxy Putty Plastic Fiberglass KwikPlastik Repair Stick for the cracks, you can find it at most auto parts, you can sand/ shape once it’s dries. To apply you just mend/mix a piece of the stick with your fingers, then fill in the cracks let dry then sand . I then used high build primer once all that was done followed by base coat and clear coat.
Hey bro, did u figure out the horn kit problem. I have the 65 impala ididit column and horn kit but when I went to install it the ring bottoms out when I tighten the steering wheel down n runs on the column mine is painted too so I want it to run my paint...thanks
Yeah I hate that about the ring, I got the ring machined to half it’s thickness, then I added a very thin solid wire in the hole of the steering wheel allowing it to tighten up before it bottoms on on column. I also added lock tight on the nut so it won’t back out since it’s not bottomed out. Hope that makes sense.
@@RedRocket64 makes perfect sense. I had a similar idea to somehow find a tapered shim to fit on the shaft to keep it from bottoming out. I'm gonna call ididit tomorrow and raise some hell. Lol Went through all the trouble of restoring my wheel n now I can't use it in retrospect I should've test fit it first... lol 🤦♂️
I used a 3” hole saw to start the hole and finished it off with a dremal with a small cutoff wheel. I took a few pics off the parts car to use as reference.
64 is looking great man! I was wondering if you had any info on how you installed the OG steering wheel on the new Ididit, also the horn kit and all that stuff? Thanks
Thank you! Well it comes with a ring that goes in between the steering wheel and the column, that one has to be machined or just shaved down to half the thickness because it rubs, (ididit won’t tell you that) Once you do that you glue that ring to the back of the steering wheel, the horn parts have a small metal shaft and spring with small plastic lock the goes in the white plastic female shaft that stick out the column, (controls self canceling blinkers) put that in before steering wheel, the steering wheel has a small hole, the white plastic goes in. Make sure your wheels are straight and bolt the steering wheel on. The metal horn contact goes in then chrome steering wheel accessory, after that the round plastic piece with 3 holes for your 3 screws. I know it’s seems like a lot but it really isn’t, try it out, if you have any more questions, let me know 👍
Car is looking good man! What length is the steering column, 30" or 33"? I have the global west steering system and it has the round 36 spline intermediate shaft but I noticed you had to use a 30 spline steering coupler, those that come standard when you replace the steering column?
Hector Lopez thanks bro, the column is a 33” 36 spline. The 30 spline u-joint/coupler was used on the bottom, connecting to the CPP 500 series gear box. Hope this helps 👍
@@RedRocket64, thanks for that information! My original steering column is 33" and it seems to be to long, I'll be looking for the 30" with a 36 spline coupler.
I just noticed you have an 18" shaft, the ine I have is 16 and it still pushes the steering to far out, could it be cause mine is a 4 door and not a 2 door?
Hector Lopez no, it being a 4 door is not the reason, all that is the same. I noticed you said you’d look out for a 30” column, you need a 33” column, 36 spline. What none of my steering components are original, they are all after market and are what you need to use with the ididit steering column that’s in this video. This is a proven setup, I’m not sure what you’ll exactly need for what you have.
@@RedRocket64 I mocked it up with original coupler? It just looks like the steering wheel is really close to the seat, sorry for all the questions man, I'm just trying to make sure I order the correct part's! Again thank's for all the info!
@@RedRocket64 Yes paid 1k for it and i dont really like it its not worth the money the saftey switch was defective only allow me to start in reverse also its located in a horrible spot unlike in the middle on the stock column and the turn signal switch is kinda cheesy ganna call summit racing and bitch at them..
Jah GaZ hmm, honestly the first time I here of someone not liking the ididit, haven’t had any issues out of mine, one of the best features IMO was that it was plug and play to my American auto wire kit. The turn signal is operates the same as original, you can add impala factor tilt and turn lever to it. Finding a stock one will cost about the same and may have to be rebuilt, and will have to add a separate hazard switch, just personal preference. There is a local impala restoration shop, I can ask if they have any leads on a factory tilt if you’d like.
Tray Carter it’s all about getting out there cruising and enjoying yourself no matter what your driving 👍 I’m glad to be of any help/motivation, feel free to ask any questions.
Hay man been following your vids.. im in the middle of my own 64 project... did you have any issues with body mount bolts breaking? All of mine the bolts either broke or are just spinning... except the front 2.. just wondering if you experienced anything like that
Jay Sack thanks for the follow 👍 I actually did have issues on the rear body mounts, the original cage nuts were rusted and bolts just kept spinning, I had to cut the bolts and cut into the rear trunk shelf and replace the cage nuts.

What did you do to get the steering wheel all the way down I put mine on and I have a huge gap
Mine steering column came with a ring for that gap.

Mine came with the ididit steering column, I don’t know if they sell it Separately, you’d have to contact IDIDIT.
@@RedRocket64 Ok thanks I'll contact Ididit
You got a part number for that billet spacer? I need that for my 66 impala.
How do I add a shift indicator to this column
Not sure, the Dakota dash displays what gear your in.
Ok cool thanks do you have a part number
Will I need those same parts for a 65?
No, those at different parts.
