I am glad you tackled this topic. You dealt honestly, directly, and provided good knowledge. The additions you made about church centered youth activities is quite important. Youth do experience a good deal of peer pressure that could tend to proselytizing, which parents need to monitor - mine did. I might also point out the institutions of Seminary in proximity to the high schools and the outstanding activities of LDS Relief work.

I grew up in Idaho Falls when it had a higher percentage of Mormons in the city. Although the Mormons I interacted with were usually very kind and friendly, being a kid who did not belong to what they describe as "the one true church," made me feel like the minority. I am not sure if this is still happening, but LDS (Mormon) religion classes were taught (but not required) at the public high school for credits toward graduation, and there even was a separate Mormon Seminary Building on the public school campus for this purpose. No other religion classes from other denominations were offered. I remember seeing a BOOK OF MORMON on the public high school principal's desk. I was invited to LDS church activities, and attended a few dances. My parents did not allow me to attend any Mormon Church activities that included their religious teachings because it is very different than mainstream Christianity, and my parents feared I would convert to Mormonism just to "fit in." Now that the percentage of practicing Mormons is less, the public school experience might be different than mine was. It was very important to my parents to teach me the difference between our Christian faith and Mormonism because the LDS church does encourage converting people to join, ...which is well known, ...because the young adults usually go on LDS missions for this purpose. Idaho Falls is a great place to live, but it is important to learn about the Mormon religion so you know how to discuss with your children the differences between what your family believes and what the LDS church teaches.... if that is important to you.

I have no idea why this came on my feed, but my sister is Mormon, and some of my extended family is Mormon (although I don't know any of them) so I watched it. Also, I lived in Idah Falls for 6 months when I was in the Navy back in 1991. My understanding is the Navy moved out of there. I honestly was at the plant so often, I rarely was home and never really explored the area. I really wish I would have. Anyways - I'm glad I watched it. It was informative and well done. I think the Mormon population is much lower (based on your information) than what it was when I was there. The Mormons of today are much different than in the past. In the past they were very heavy on recruiting and could be exclusionary. But today, I think they are way more accepting. What I can say is every Mormon I have ever met, whether it is missionaries, my family members, coworkers, friends of friends etc. have been the nicest people, incredibly nice people.
I often say, if Seattle gets too bad for me (and it is close), I'm moving to Idaho. I just don't think I could handle the winter. But it would have to be southern/southeast Idaho. North is getting too progressive like Seattle, just a couple decades behind in numbers and how extreme.

Imo, if you want drama then you probably want to live in California and NY. If you rather want to live in peace and a quiet life then Idaho is probably one of the best states out there.

If you’re watching this video because you want to be familiarized with Idaho culture you should know that we are not called Mormons. We are called Latter Day Saints and our church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Just wanted to let you know so you don’t get corrected.
The church is very inviting and loving and it is absolutely nothing to worry about.

What is like for Blacks living there?

I have an interview coming up that talks about this. I feel that since I am not a woman of color, it might be best asked to someone that can relate. So I have an interview scheduled to help address this one! As for my experience, blacks are definitely a minority. I haven't seen any hate crimes or racism in this community and I hope my experience is the same for anyone of any ethnic background. If you are ok with being a minority, it is still a great place to live. Stay tuned to get back on this one though.
