By '505', he's talking about the hotel room number at which his girlfriend was staying. Alex Turner, lead vocalist, had an argument with said girlfriend, and left the hotel room. Afterwards, he regretted this decision, and thus went back to the hotel room, 505, to make up with her. He then wrote this song about it.

The Arctic Monkeys are fantastic. Their first album was raw, gritty and fresh. It was superb. But this, this shows their maturity in songwriting, and a slightly deeper approach. Both are excellent.
When this album first came out this was the slow song at the end I always skipped, but now I'm older I really appreciate it. Haunting and some of their best work.
