He is considered THE BEST SOLO MALE ARTIST IN KPOP HISTORY for a reason. Taemin was the first solo artist to debut from his company SM. But it will always be the most iconic debut, he was just 21 at the time. It could be said that Taemin gave birth to all the SM solo artists that came many after him. That is why he is also nicknamed as the "ACE of ACE" of SM and Lee So Man (founder of the company). Danger was inspired by taemin's inspiration: MJ and over time he discovered himself as an artist and now he is the best of all time in the world.
The funny thing about Taemin is that he's actually very shy when he's not on stage or performing. He's a total MONSTER on stage, but like a very cute, fluffy ewok off-stage. The duality is quite startling at first. After one performance of "Danger", when he left the stage and photographers were photographing him shirtless, Taemin hunched his shoulders, covered his torso with his hands, and ran into the dressing room. It was so cute. He's been described by one friend as "tofu with a core of iron". He's also known as one of the kindest idols out there and is loved by almost everyone in the industry because of his hard-working nature, kindness, and he's very respectful. Ian Eastwood did the choreo for "Danger". He was also 21 at the time. He said that SM told him a couple times that he had to make the choreo harder for Taemin. When Ian balked at the idea because he thought performing and singing it at the same time would be too difficult because of the isolations, subtle popping, and quick transitions, SM said "he can handle it". Ian said he would have passed out if he had to perform that choreo while singing. "Two Kids" (Act 1): This MV is the prologue to his entire cohesive storyline for his 2020, 2-part, full-length album, Never Gonna Dance Again (NGDA). The song depicts a break-up, but not between Taemin and a girl. It's a break-up between the two sides of Taemin: celebrity Taemin and regular person Taemin. The story continues in both "Criminal" (Act 1) and "IDEA" (Act 2), with the epilogue being "Advice". The MV was done in-between Taemin's schedule with SuperM promotions while they were in Paris. However, he was still in "work mode". Another MV done in Europe around the same time is "Think of You". Although the lyrics are somewhat sad, it has an upbeat tempo. Taemin is absolutely adorable in it and shows his more playful side. "Famous": If you don't read the lyrics to this one, it comes off sounding as if Taemin is famous and therefore fabulous and dangerous. However, the proper context is that being famous may be fabulous to some, but it's also dangerous with lots of drama, and Taemin doesn't like drama. Taemin is a devout Catholic and therefore struggles with the fine line between "anything goes" view broadly accepted by the world and the more conservative worldview of his faith. Basically the lyrics talk about the deadly sins that tempt those in his position to take the wrong path and how hard it is to resist those temptations and become yet another crash-test dummy who burns to ash. During one shot in the car we see Taemin's hand has become that of a crash-test dummy, but in the end, he retains his faith and walks away from some who have decided to take the other path. The MV is full of symbolism and imagery to complement the lyrics. BTW: if you think his popping/isolations were good here, you should definitely watch this SuperM trailer of him. This man started out with popping/locking and is a MASTER at it. He can actually isolate individual muscles simultaneously, as well as each individual finger. Taemin has much more control over his music now and regularly alters lyrics, music composition, and every other aspect of his music. The MV was shot Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park in CA. I can tell you that he really did climb that rock he was standing on in the opening, and it freaked the staff out. Also, the rock in the background of the performance was the same location used in the 1968 original Star Trek episode 18, "Arena". "Criminal": This MV continues the story from "2 Kids". Taemin ingeniously chose the concept of Stockholm Syndrome to illustrate his relationship with himself, being both the "criminal" and victim within his own mind -- a love/hate relationship. In order to rectify the situation and become whole again, he realizes he needs to refine himself through fire (a Christian reference) and therefore he says, "Destroy me more" during the very dramatic bridge. "IDEA", which you've already reacted to, I believe, is the climactic battle and resurrection into the new Taemin in "Advice". BTW: I wasn't thrilled with the The Stage performance of "Criminal". For Taemin, it felt somewhat flat. However, the performance he did at the 2020 KBS Song Festival is the best I've seen. When you read the lyrics, you see his continuing struggle to come to terms with both the dark vs. light sides of his fractured egos. If you feel that diving into SHINee as a group would be too much right now you could still check out Onew, Key and Minho's solos which were all released in 2018-2022. The quality of all of their respective solo work is extremely high and they each have a different vibe. Key's Bad Love, Minho's Heartbreak and Onew's Dice were all released within the last year! But if you would rather stick with Taemin he has a wealth of performances that you haven't yet seen, I recommend Just Me And You and Ace!

In addition to Taemin's beautiful, mesmerizing performances, I love that his songs are imbued with symbolism and deeper meanings. For example, Famous (which got blocked because Japanese mvs often do) is a critique of celebrity and the media and the dangers of fame, while Pretty Boy (with his bff Kai from EXO) is a protest against always being judged (and exploited) for his appearance when he is more than that. The message there and in Move is that Taemin can be soft and (almost) feminine, yet strong and masculine at the same time. Gender is a fluid construct and should not be a trap for anyone. Jonghyun wrote Pretty Boy for Taemin inspired by Taemin's angst over always being judged or considered for his pretty looks. You can see early interviews where the hosts absolutely fawned over him, insisting that Taemin is prettier than the girl groups. And especially with long hair that was down his back at one point. I love that now, as an adult (after going through puberty in the public eye), Taeminnie has embraced his androgynous nature as part of who he is and has made it a strength. He has alwaysbeen a bit rebellious, like when he showed his hip tattoo in his Advice mv right before enlisting. I also appreciate that when he became a soloist, he employed female dancers as well as male dancers, probably doubling the amount of female dancers employed in the industry. For example, Taemin is known for his "girl gang" in Move, and he thinks that dance is genderless, so anyone may dance any part or role. You can learn alot about his process by watching his "lectures" or Q-and-A sessions. Thank you for this beautiful video, Melanie 💜 Your appreciation of this great artist is awesome, especially since we miss seeing Taemin's daily vlives and his kitty, Kkoong, since he has been in the military. By the way, SHINee is an absolute dream group! I was so fortunate to discover them during the pandemic. First I found Taemin in Final Life (Japanese series) and the rest is an awesome (daebak) journey through SHINee and Taemin's and the members' solo work. I feel so blessed to have found SHINee before any other group because they are the ultimate. And I'm a big fan of SM Entertainment's artists and Lee Soo-man, the genius who created SHINee, who believed that an 11-year-old self taught popper and locker could be an idol, who trusted that the secret group SHINee should debut with a 14-year-old as the main dancer, although he couldn't sing yet because his voice hadn't changed. I think you will fall for SHINee too, and a deep dive from the beginning is definitely the way to go. This is SHINee month and SHINee Day (debut anniversary) is May 25th. This year will be different without Taemin but we spent two years with him doing 0525 by himself while the other members were in the military. I’m so excited to see more Taemin reactions! Although the performances from The Stage are “live”, you really don’t hear any live vocals. I would definitely check out Taemin’s performance of Black Rose on inkigayo, you can really hear his truly live vocals, and I CANNOT get over the styling in that performance!

A performance version still doesn't show as much of the choreo as a dance practice, there's still all kinds of camera movement and zooming in and all of that so I still recommend watching dance practices over them. Also, if you can't see the date one the vid you can just hit the "show more" option to see it. The Drip Drop MV was shot in California I believe.

I'm in this Taemin way for 12 years, I saw this little shy maknae who couldn't even talk in interviews (the journalists used to ask other members "why taemin doesn't talk?" and the answer was always "he's shy" 🥰), became this big artist with so much impact ❤️❤️ the most you learn about taemin better he looks, no disappointments with him at all. Highly recomend his song "LOVE", it's a b-side from MOVE album and Lee Sooman himself choose LOVE as single, but Taemin thought MOVE was better (again, no disappointments). And there's a video called "Press it Highlight Medley" where he performed a little bit of every song in Press It album, amazing video ❤️❤️❤️ For your own taemin time also recommend his Buddokan arena concert, it was his first solo concert ever, boy had leg cramps so hard he almost threw up on backstage (danced too hard, no disappointments EVER). Cannot believe I’ve only seen one of these: Criminal. This was great. Thank you. I understand you not feeling ready for Shinee. I’ve been watching them for four years and I always feel sad when the five are together knowing they won’t always be. But I also feel sad when it’s just the four, grieving over the loss. But I started watching them and was hooked four years ago. And then I couldn’t let go. Wonder if SM recognized Taemin s talent at such a young age, or if he developed it as a member.

The only quite good dancing compilation video of Taemin that I know is titled "who's the best dancer in the industry and why is it Taemin" by RAYS OF MOONLIGHT. I think it shows great clips of him dancing, that people normally wouldn't see, like from variety shows or concerts. I need to point out that this video is done by a fan who isn't a professional dancer (so the subjective "best" clips were chosen - still great cause Taemin is great 😉), and the font of the commentary writing is a little hard to read (at least for me). Also, obviously, slight spoilers for Taemin's songs ahead. And if you ever want to check out some SHINee compilation, that would show you briefly how influential and talented they are, there are amazing videos on youtube titled "SHINee setting the bar so high no one can reach it" and "SHINee still setting the bar so high no one can reach it" by jjongkim. These videos have a little explanation to almost every clip, so you don't have to know the context or even the rest of the members, and you can still enjoy watching. But similarly to Taemin's dancing video - spoilers for SHINee's songs ahead. Personally, I'm the type who likes hearing the snippets of songs, so I can find more music to then go and check out in full, it makes me more excited for the songs, but I know some people frantically avoid spoilers and mute every song that they don't know. You didn't do any dance practices which is the best of Taemin's content imo. The performance music videos just aren't as good (live performances are great though! I was glad you watched some of those last time). They spend to much time focusing on his face instead of just showing the routines and dancing (for my taste anyways haha). Especially Criminal, Famous and Move. But it was still a fun reaction. And agree with the girls on stage thing! Most of the time they're there for eyecandy and don't actually get to dance. But i love that Taemin's backup dancers are there to bring it!

I love Sayonara Hitori / Goodbye by him. It's beautiful. On 1st listen I did not like Danger. It was not catchy. I have heard it more and its still not for me. Taemin was the first solo artist to debut from his company SM. But it will always be the most iconic debut, he was just 21 at the time. It could be said that Taemin gave birth to all the SM solo artists that came many after him. That is why he is also nicknamed as the "ACE of ACE" of SM and Lee So Man (founder of the company). Danger was inspired by taemin's inspiration: MJ and over time he discovered himself as an artist and now he is the best of all time in the world.

The funny thing about Taemin is that he's actually very shy when he's not on stage or performing. He's a total MONSTER on stage, but like a very cute, fluffy ewok off-stage. The duality is quite startling at first. After one performance of "Danger", when he left the stage and photographers were photographing him shirtless, Taemin hunched his shoulders, covered his torso with his hands, and ran into the dressing room. It was so cute. He's been described by one friend as "tofu with a core of iron". He's also known as one of the kindest idols out there and is loved by almost everyone in the industry because of his hard-working nature, kindness, and he's very respectful.
Ian Eastwood did the choreo for "Danger". He was also 21 at the time. He said that SM told him a couple times that he had to make the choreo harder for Taemin. When Ian balked at the idea because he thought performing and singing it at the same time would be too difficult because of the isolations, subtle popping, and quick transitions, SM said "he can handle it". Ian said he would have passed out if he had to perform that choreo while singing.
"Two Kids" (Act 1): This MV is the prologue to his entire cohesive storyline for his 2020, 2-part, full-length album, Never Gonna Dance Again (NGDA). The song depicts a break-up, but not between Taemin and a girl. It's a break-up between the two sides of Taemin: celebrity Taemin and regular person Taemin. The story continues in both "Criminal" (Act 1) and "IDEA" (Act 2), with the epilogue being "Advice". The MV was done in-between Taemin's schedule with SuperM promotions while they were in Paris. However, he was still in "work mode". Another MV done in Europe around the same time is "Think of You". Although the lyrics are somewhat sad, it has an upbeat tempo. Taemin is absolutely adorable in it and shows his more playful side.
"Famous": If you don't read the lyrics to this one, it comes off sounding as if Taemin is famous and therefore fabulous and dangerous. However, the proper context is that being famous may be fabulous to some, but it's also dangerous with lots of drama, and Taemin doesn't like drama. Taemin is a devout Catholic and therefore struggles with the fine line between "anything goes" view broadly accepted by the world and the more conservative worldview of his faith. Basically the lyrics talk about the deadly sins that tempt those in his position to take the wrong path and how hard it is to resist those temptations and become yet another crash-test dummy who burns to ash. During one shot in the car we see Taemin's hand has become that of a crash-test dummy, but in the end, he retains his faith and walks away from some who have decided to take the other path. The MV is full of symbolism and imagery to complement the lyrics. BTW: if you think his popping/isolations were good here, you should definitely watch this SuperM trailer of him. This man started out with popping/locking and is a MASTER at it. He can actually isolate individual muscles simultaneously, as well as each individual finger. "Drip Drop": I don't have much for this one because it was early in his solo career and is basically a very sensual love song that compares water, the ocean, and sailing to how a man feels about a woman. Taemin has much more control over his music now and regularly alters lyrics, music composition, and every other aspect of his music. The MV was shot Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park in CA. I can tell you that he really did climb that rock he was standing on in the opening, and it freaked the staff out. Also, the rock in the background of the performance was the same location used in the 1968 original Star Trek episode 18, "Arena".
"Criminal": This MV continues the story from "2 Kids". Taemin ingeniously chose the concept of Stockholm Syndrome to illustrate his relationship with himself, being both the "criminal" and victim within his own mind -- a love/hate relationship. In order to rectify the situation and become whole again, he realizes he needs to refine himself through fire (a Christian reference) and therefore he says, "Destroy me more" during the very dramatic bridge. "IDEA", which you've already reacted to, I believe, is the climactic battle and resurrection into the new Taemin in "Advice". BTW: I wasn't thrilled with the The Stage performance of "Criminal". For Taemin, it felt somewhat flat. However, the performance he did at the 2020 KBS Song Festival is the best I've seen. "Black Rose": As part of Act 1 of NGDA, this song is also part of the NGDA storyline. When you read the lyrics, you see his continuing struggle to come to terms with both the dark vs. light sides of his fractured egos. Phrases such as choosing between "the darker darkness and my breath (which is life)"; "shadow on the back of my hand, over my heart", "The place that calls me closer to you beyond the distant consciousness....." and the metaphorical phrasings just continue throughout the song. As with much of Taemin's songs, the lyrics are quite deep, meaningful to him personally, and beautiful.

⚠️ 'Danger' (2014) was indeed Taemin's solo debut at the [international] age of 21. He was SM's first ever solo act coming from a fixed/active group, as personally handpicked by the company founder and head producer Lee Soo Man who absolutely adores/babies Taemin and puts him in pretty much every big label-representative project such as like how Taemin became the center of SuperM and was the first member to be added into the supergroup so you could say they were technically built around him. @@albertasimmons-robison1816 Uno Santa, a professional dancer & choreographer who became an idol after working with Taemin on tour in Japan and then became inspired by him to do more on stage with his career. He's now a member of the Japanese-Chinese boy groups WARPs UP and INTO1.
This is the exact same case for his fellow member (in both groups), Chikada Rikimaru, who was also a professional dancer and choreographer for SHINee and Taemin in the past

If you feel that diving into SHINee as a group would be too much right now you could still check out Onew, Key and Minho's solos which were all released in 2018-2022. The quality of all of their respective solo work is extremely high and they each have a different vibe. Key's Bad Love, Minho's Heartbreak and Onew's Dice were all released within the last year! But if you would rather stick with Taemin he has a wealth of performances that you haven't yet seen, I recommend Just Me And You and Ace!

Will all of his work 2 Kids stands as my absolute favorite. Isn’t it weird. I love how raw and honest it is.
In addition to Taemin's beautiful, mesmerizing performances, I love that his songs are imbued with symbolism and deeper meanings. For example, Famous (which got blocked because Japanese mvs often do) is a critique of celebrity and the media and the dangers of fame, while Pretty Boy (with his bff Kai from EXO) is a protest against always being judged (and exploited) for his appearance when he is more than that. The message there and in Move is that Taemin can be soft and (almost) feminine, yet strong and masculine at the same time. Gender is a fluid construct and should not be a trap for anyone. Jonghyun wrote Pretty Boy for Taemin inspired by Taemin's angst over always being judged or considered for his pretty looks. You can see early interviews where the hosts absolutely fawned over him, insisting that Taemin is prettier than the girl groups. And especially with long hair that was down his back at one point. I love that now, as an adult (after going through puberty in the public eye), Taeminnie has embraced his androgynous nature as part of who he is and has made it a strength. He has alwaysbeen a bit rebellious, like when he showed his hip tattoo in his Advice mv right before enlisting. I also appreciate that when he became a soloist, he employed female dancers as well as male dancers, probably doubling the amount of female dancers employed in the industry. For example, Taemin is known for his "girl gang" in Move, and he thinks that dance is genderless, so anyone may dance any part or role. You can learn alot about his process by watching his "lectures" or Q-and-A sessions. Thank you for this beautiful video, Melanie 💜 Your appreciation of this great artist is awesome, especially since we miss seeing Taemin's daily vlives and his kitty, Kkoong, since he has been in the military. By the way, SHINee is an absolute dream group! I was so fortunate to discover them during the pandemic. First I found Taemin in Final Life (Japanese series) and the rest is an awesome (daebak) journey through SHINee and Taemin's and the members' solo work. I feel so blessed to have found SHINee before any other group because they are the ultimate. And I'm a big fan of SM Entertainment's artists and Lee Soo-man, the genius who created SHINee, who believed that an 11-year-old self taught popper and locker could be an idol, who trusted that the secret group SHINee should debut with a 14-year-old as the main dancer, although he couldn't sing yet because his voice hadn't changed. I think you will fall for SHINee too, and a deep dive from the beginning is definitely the way to go. This is SHINee month and SHINee Day (debut anniversary) is May 25th. This year will be different without Taemin but we spent two years with him doing 0525 by himself while the other members were in the military. This year SM is celebrating SHINee Day with a broadcast on their RUclips channel at 10:30 KST. By the way, I'm sorry I missed your live, it sounded like fun!

I’m so excited to see more Taemin reactions! Although the performances from The Stage are “live”, you really don’t hear any live vocals. I would definitely check out Taemin’s performance of Black Rose on inkigayo, you can really hear his truly live vocals, and I CANNOT get over the styling in that performance!

A performance version still doesn't show as much of the choreo as a dance practice, there's still all kinds of camera movement and zooming in and all of that so I still recommend watching dance practices over them. Also, if you can't see the date one the vid you can just hit the "show more" option to see it. The Drip Drop MV was shot in California I believe.

I'm in this Taemin way for 12 years, I saw this little shy maknae who couldn't even talk in interviews (the journalists used to ask other members "why taemin doesn't talk?" and the answer was always "he's shy" 🥰), became this big artist with so much impact ❤️❤️ the most you learn about taemin better he looks, no disappointments with him at all.
Highly recomend his song "LOVE", it's a b-side from MOVE album and Lee Sooman himself choose LOVE as single, but Taemin thought MOVE was better (again, no disappointments). And there's a video called "Press it Highlight Medley" where he performed a little bit of every song in Press It album, amazing video ❤️❤️❤️
For your own taemin time also recommend his Buddokan arena concert, it was his first solo concert ever, boy had leg cramps so hard he almost threw up on backstage (danced too hard, no disappointments EVER).

I understand you not feeling ready for Shinee. I’ve been watching them for four years and I always feel sad when the five are together knowing they won’t always be. But I also feel sad when it’s just the four, grieving over the loss.
But I started watching them and was hooked four years ago. And then I couldn’t let go.
Wonder if SM recognized Taemin s talent at such a young age, or if he developed it as a member.

The only quite good dancing compilation video of Taemin that I know is titled "who's the best dancer in the industry and why is it Taemin" by RAYS OF MOONLIGHT.
I think it shows great clips of him dancing, that people normally wouldn't see, like from variety shows or concerts. I need to point out that this video is done by a fan who isn't a professional dancer (so the subjective "best" clips were chosen - still great cause Taemin is great 😉), and the font of the commentary writing is a little hard to read (at least for me).
Also, obviously, slight spoilers for Taemin's songs ahead.
And if you ever want to check out some SHINee compilation, that would show you briefly how influential and talented they are, there are amazing videos on youtube titled "SHINee setting the bar so high no one can reach it" and "SHINee still setting the bar so high no one can reach it" by jjongkim. These videos have a little explanation to almost every clip, so you don't have to know the context or even the rest of the members, and you can still enjoy watching.
But similarly to Taemin's dancing video - spoilers for SHINee's songs ahead.
Personally, I'm the type who likes hearing the snippets of songs, so I can find more music to then go and check out in full, it makes me more excited for the songs, but I know some people frantically avoid spoilers and mute every song that they don't know.

I personally love every concert performance, he breaks his body to performance. The behind the scenes footage of his Budokan concert has him collapsing backstage after each performance and staff trying to massage his limbs back to life. It’s heartbreaking but you can really see that he gives his life to his work.

I love Taemin and I suggest you react ", Kai", a k-pop's singer friend of Taemin. Kai dances as much as Taemin.
You didn't do any dance practices which is the best of Taemin's content imo. The performance music videos just aren't as good (live performances are great though! I was glad you watched some of those last time). They spend to much time focusing on his face instead of just showing the routines and dancing (for my taste anyways haha). Especially Criminal, Famous and Move. But it was still a fun reaction.
And agree with the girls on stage thing! Most of the time they're there for eyecandy and don't actually get to dance. But i love that Taemin's backup dancers are there to bring it!

Also I understand your feelings about not wanting to be sad but I really, really hope you check out SHINee eventually. They continue to create some of the best music in kpop and to set many trends, and they are such a respected part of the industry that it would be unfortunate not to dive into them. Sometimes it may be sad but he left such a wealth of beauty behind and I think it is the best thing ever when people can discover his brilliant legacy for the first time. I love Sayonara Hitori / Goodbye by him. It's beautiful. On 1st listen I did not like Danger. It was not catchy. I have heard it more and its still not for me.
