Many don’t realize how often actors don’t actually meet each other when making a movie, and if they do it may be for one or two scenes; or how the filming sequences aren’t laid out in the order shown in the final film; or how the sets look in reality vs the film views. I’m no expert but I’ve had a little back door peek into it through affiliates. Pretty impressive

In that movie, it was about them reuniting at the end. They didn't have that many scenes together. Each struggles in their own journey through the ice and snow.
The director felt that if the actors never knew each other, it would give the movie a more realistic father-son dynamic.
