  • Episode 269. Another addition to my value, peated Scotch reflections. This one is a Single malt, but no mention of age or where it came from. This one fails to deliver for me. Lots of smoke, medicine, and ash, but little else. Still, if you are looking for a very affordable, heavily peated dram, this delivers. Have you tried it? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    Just picked up a bottle of the Islay storm for 22$. My first bottle of scotch and I’m not disappointed, I was looking for finlaggan but they were out unfortunately. I love the smoky, bitter, briny flavor and it’s surprisingly less bitey to me than most bourbons I’ve had. Thanks for the great video!

    I buy mclellands islay for my cheap smoky single malt. It’s a decent enough dram, it’s youthfulness is covered by the peat, and it’s not a peat monster. It is supposedly young bowmore. To me it’s about 30-35 ppm compared to the 25 ppm of bowmore 12

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  3 года назад +1

      I should have that bottle in this line up. I have heard that Bomore owns McClelland, so that seems right. I don't think I will buy it right now. Maybe in fall. Thanks for sharing!

    Great review Jon. Going off your notes, this is reminding me a budget Laphroaig Select. It is nothing amazing but it achieves what it is trying to do.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  3 года назад +1

      I almost said Laphroaig here. It definitely reminds me of their style, without the character. Thanks for dropping in.

    This could be good in certain cocktails, a cheaper alternative to using more expensive offerings, but there's so many wonderful peated and smokey Islays out there (and a few non-Islays too!) I would rather save my money to put towards a better bottle.
    Glad to hear your thoughts on this particular whisky!
    Cheers, my friend! 🥃

    great review Jon, I personally feel islay gets away with it more for being young and/or being blended, the peat almost masks a lot of the ethanol sharpness I get in young speysides for instance. my second black bottle arrived today so expect that comparison soon, im excited to record/taste it, great for the price, cheers!

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  3 года назад

      I agree, but here there I a lack of depth that better whisky still has young. Youth is not the main challenge on this bottle for me. I look forward to your review!

    Thanks for this review. Now I am sure I will not touch peated scotch. I really think it will put me off. I am used to Speyside scotch. So I'd better stick to that.

      @@WhiskyNeighbour I haven't tried it, I've been looking for reviews but they are few and far between.
