I'm lying here in bed in Australia, it's 5.58am on a Wednesday 28th of April. I'm looking at old BayCityRoller clips. I'm wondering, where has time gone? The joy these boys brought to so many millions of people. They were gorgeous. For them to have been so unhappy in later life, chasing the money they had earnt is simply sinful. I'm readng the beautiful comments from all of you beautful, adoring people, some commenting on the happiness the boys brought to you, some wishing Ian a happy birthday, when it suddenly occurred to me that Ian is no longer with us, nor Alan nor Les. That Eric has had some very serious health battles and Derek adverse publicity. That 3 of those devine young men on that couch have actually lost their lives. We are in the end only human. That is the sad reality. Once we were Superfans, once they were BayCityRollers. RIP Alan, Ian and most recently Les. I think Derek summed it all up when asked who he would swap places with and he said Tam, the one man, Manager they trusted. The man that ripped them off in so many ways. I'm wondering where you all are now, all of those that commented and l'm hoping your all safe and well. Bless you all.💝
I'm Scottish so maybe have a bit more background knowledge of what happened to our " local " bands at the time. Many similar bands went round the circuit here of playing the same halls all over central Scotland. Most never progressed beyond that. The rollers just hit it lucky at the right time. Paton the manager was out his depth with the level of success the band had. He just didn't know how to handle it as he was only used to dealing with bookings for locations like church halls, small ballrooms and wedding receptions etc. I expect that all the record company people took full advantage of his lack of knowledge about the situation. I can remember quite clearly a small paragraph in an Edinburgh newspaper from Les saying that they were just a bunch boys from the back streets of Edinburgh who had very little future in front of them but Paton had got them their big break and he never dreamed that he could ever fly in a plane to America. Could I also say that some of our local bands contained very talented musicians who just didn't break through because they weren't promoted, another exception was marmalade.
@@stewartgreig3272 Hi Stewart, I'm actually not a BayCityRoller fan. I'm a GlitterBand fan. Another great band ostracized, due to the stupidity of others. l am a huge fan of the 70's. I do understand what your saying. We have the same sort of thing still going on in Australia, even today with our Bands. Tam to me seemed intelligent enough, intelligent enough to secure his own income and rort the Tax Office with misleading information to benefit himself. The one thing we can be certain of, is, he saw what went into his own bank accounts and had no complaints. Any logical human being with a lick of sense can spot a runaway train. The Rollers were a runaway train. This man supplied these young boy's with drugs and other vices to make them perform at their peak according to the band members themselves, whilst he himself lived the high life, but he didn't know HOW or WHAT, the Number 1 Band in the world were being paid. He knew!!! Tam had obtained his golden ticket and was enjoying the ride on the runaway train called The BayCityRollers. Whether he took control of something he was incapable of controling or not, he MISLEAD the Rollers by DECEIVING them. These young inexperienced boys trusted his care, knowledge and experience and he would have been fully aware that he wasn't delivering, hence the deceit. It is common decency and clearly, his reputation showed he had none. Sorry but there are no excuses as far as l can see. Several members have died as adults, many years later, devestated and broke, knowing WHAT they achieved, but not knowing WHY they were taken advantage of by their own Manager. If there is a rock n roll heaven, l hope he's not in it. God bless those Scottish boy's and the joy they brought to so many around this sad old world and God bless the fans that defend them to this day.😔
I remember that show! There was a cooking segment and Ian was buttering bread, and he said in his accent, "You don't butter the bread, you (then he switched to a US accent and said, "But-ter the bread." I thought that was just so cute!
OH MY GOSH !!! I totally remember watching this! Ian is just the most beautiful thing on two legs! They are all sooooo adorable. THANK YOU SO MUCH, PaOsfan for sharing this with us!
Eric gets his pants ripped of! WOW! If I was in that audience I would have cried and cried and screamed just looking at the Rollers, especially Eric. Just seeing the Rollers here on youtube beings back the few good memories I have about my teenage years.
Does anyone remember putting a tape recorder in front of the tv speaker to record the audio from shows to listen to later? I found a shoebox in in my garage with most of the tapes I did back then. I have this amongst the BCR ones except it has a big farty sound in the middle , no thanks to my older brother, and it cuts off right as Eric is asked about his most embarrassing moment. So, thanks for uploading this, it's so great to see it again!
Sounds funny and I hope he can smile about it now , but being the person I am I would have tried to help him, cover him with my coat or something poor lad ! As much as he’s one of the most gorgeous guys on the planet I don’t like the thought of this happening to him :(
They sold roughly a hundred million records, which proportionately puts them up there with the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Today Alan's a plumber and Derek's a nurse. Because they never got paid. Boggles the mind.
Greetings back from North Carolina, USA !! I was in Switzerland many years ago, as a teenager. i was on vacation with my mother. You live in a very beautiful place !!
I remember this... I told my little sister at the time that that the reason we had a hard time understanding what they say is because the Rollers were all deaf. Hahaha.... it made sense.
Paco Raban???? That cologne smells like heaven. I followed our guitarist all over the stage once sniffing him, couldn't get enough of that men's cologne. Woody has good taste. He should get a boat load of it for Christmas!!
No other pop band has ever had a following like the Bay City Rollers. There were other pop bands, but BCR's had pandemonium. I remember one of their concerts had over 200,000 girls and it was unbelievable. Girls were falling, screaming (you could not hear them play and this was at every concert, including me screaming), breaking their legs, fainting ect..I don't think this happened with the Back Street Boys, Menudo..ect..they did not have the following like the Rollers did.
I have never once left an ugly comment on anything (as that is not my style) but in this case, to the one who posted "Can you say Gay City Rollers", I can't say that but I can say BITE ME!!!!!!!!! I love BCR!!!!
Glenda Richardson, last week, Les, Alan and Woody reunited. Did you see the press release? Idk why Eric and Derek didn't join. I wonder if Derek's charges prevent him from touring?
There is a clip somewhere on RUclips of a concert of the BCR's and it looks like it was on the set of Dinah's show and I could've sworn I saw Mackenzie in the audience. I also read somewhere she had a thing for one of the BCR's, perhaps Woody, has anyone else ever read this?
i to this day don't believe that derek would ever hurt any child! i've loved kids since before i knew the rollers existed, but i think he was set up!! but i read that he sang at a concert in chicago once and had a beautiful voice, so why doesn't he use it?! that would've been my question!
mary and linda have a question to ian. but they say another word, what do they mean? leslie is always shouting something. i wish i could understand, especially the moment before eric answers about his embarrasing moment. does anybody have a little time to explain? thank you.
Why does everyone who gets caught with the goods, "hold them for a friend"? Nobody does. The 'stable' of boys in the band after Alan was deemed too old was obvious.. Tam was there "selecting" them. Too many chocolates for one man to keep his hands off of.
Another band which teenage girls when mad over but didnt stay together long why simple bad manger its a pitney really made good music left the country behind who made them it happeneds all the time thats why they dont last long only 3 years at the top you take the Rolling stones and the beatles was huge here and around the world kept everyone happy but the bay city rollers didnt realsed 4 singles in u,sa, and only 2 here not fair on their fans so they moved to abba like i did
And they criticize my generation's taste in music....These kids, now old ladies, could have been listening to Bowie, but they were listening to this bubblegum shit instead. SMMFH.
Actually we listened to a lot of other people. Bowie, The Who, Queen, Heart, Boston, Fleetwood Mac just to name a few. At 13 1/2 I saw The Who way before I saw BCR.
Incredible! Really amazing! You still have this on tape?Simply great!!! I have never seen this! Thanks so much for sharing this! Greetings from Amsterdam-The Netherlands.
The 70's were awesome! Roller mania at it's finest! Rest in peace Ian !

my first time seeing this! Gosh I wish I had been there!
I used to watch this show every time they were on it.

daveslady57 I put a recorder up to the TV. I don't remember this. But then again I remember that the show started before I got home from school.
I was laughing so hard at your comment 'farty' sound....LOL!!!!!

I'm 58 and I remember seeing this live on this show. The part I remember the most is when the mom got up and asked her question at 1:37
I remember this!!!😍
I was so in love... lol
I so remember seeing this when it aired!! Oh what great memories. It was such a special time of my life. Love those Rollers!!!!
When was that?
I see these old clips n I have that fan girl moment.
My favorite Roller is Eric.
dreamy
Mine too!
that's great! please let them write a comment.we like them!!
they're all soo cute!!! :)
I remember this show. Mom tried to calm me down but it didn't work
thank you and greetings from switzerland
Seriously high-octane intellectuality! "What cologne do you use?" LOL!
I can’t believe fans were really like this. There only people.
Saw that on the tv!
Woody for ever!!!!!!
erics anser to the mother is so charming, i'think she fell in love too with the bcr.
Only the rollers can create an iconic cheer team style chant which make fans create sorority style chants.
I have never once left an ugly comment on anything (as that is not my style) but in this case, to the one who posted "Can you say Gay City Rollers", I can't say that but I can say BITE ME!!!!!!!!! I love BCR!!!!

o man ya its sad that those times are gone
wow!
Glenda Richardson, last week, Les, Alan and Woody reunited. Did you see the press release? Idk why Eric and Derek didn't join. I wonder if Derek's charges prevent him from touring?
It plays all the way thru on my computer. It must be a problem on your end.
No happidaze2, that wasn't me ripping his trousers off!! hahahahahah!!!:)
Do you have the full episode of this?
No, I don't. I have this part and the Ian making Chip Cuddies part is on here also.
Who was the co host with Dinah on this particular episode
Julie Ford That’s Mackenzie Phillips, an actress who starred on One Day At A Time with Valerie Bertinelli and Bonnie Franklin.
the girl asked woody for his after shave. what does he answer, bevor he says "paco rabanne"? "i've got you" or something? what means that?
He says "I have a few"
There is a clip somewhere on RUclips of a concert of the BCR's and it looks like it was on the set of Dinah's show and I could've sworn I saw Mackenzie in the audience. I also read somewhere she had a thing for one of the BCR's, perhaps Woody, has anyone else ever read this?
She slept with a lot of celebrities. Mick Jaguar, Woody was one of them.
i bet the girl beside Laura was thinking "oh yes PLEASE bring Ian up here!"
NICE!!! :-)
I agree.
i to this day don't believe that derek would ever hurt any child! i've loved kids since before i knew the rollers existed, but i think he was set up!! but i read that he sang at a concert in chicago once and had a beautiful voice, so why doesn't he use it?! that would've been my question!
OMG!!!HEHEHEHE! what a FLIRT! Ian u saucy little minx!;-) Love Ya Babe!
That's cool! They were soooo lucky to be there!! Is your mom still a fan of the Rollers?
I think he is saying... I've got a 'few'.
That mens cologne Paco Rabanne smells awesome! Good taste Woody.
mary and linda have a question to ian. but they say another word, what do they mean? leslie is always shouting something. i wish i could understand, especially the moment before eric answers about his embarrasing moment.
does anybody have a little time to explain? thank you.
Les says "you tell them Ian" and "do you want to swap places with Ian"
I think you missed it because what of time the Dinah Shore Show was on. Maybe you were in school.
LOL! I have no idea what that means. I was wondering that myself.
To Salome63: Derek's reply was "Tam"
And...knowing what we all know now about Tam, we wonder why he said that....ugh....
@@ForeverInLuvRA I suspect it was more a case of he who has the money. As in Tam handled their money.
@@Mellissandria Correct !
what did derek answer?
Emma, he said "Tam", so he wanted to swap places with the manager Tam Paton. Makes sense when you see how little money the boys ended up with.
Not sure who I’m more embarrassed for the group or the audience,LOL
@mariomaniac6411 thank you
@salome63 i think he says "i've got a few" actually
"emmmm ive got a few" .... maybe 4 years later u can understand the accent better ;)
I bet the girl that asked Woody a question peed all over her seat
Mackenzie Philips dated one of them.
June Upton which??
Why does everyone who gets caught with the goods, "hold them for a friend"?
Nobody does.
The 'stable' of boys in the band after Alan was deemed too old was obvious.. Tam was there "selecting" them. Too many chocolates for one man to keep his hands off of.
it seems to me, that woody doesen't know his after shave....lol!!
Emma, how many teenage boys would know much about aftershave ?
