Great guide for anyone wanting to get into gloomspite. I’am an old school warhammer fantasy player, got into it back in third edition. Dwarfs and greenskins were my first armies! After they killed off fantasy I was afraid id never see greenskins/goblins updates ever again. I just sold off my 40k stuff, and decided that gloomspite gitz will be a great nostalgic project to get into. Although some of their units are not “meta” and random, it reminds me of the old school orc and goblin rules where things could either go really well, or really bad. It makes it fun to play, not just for yourself, but for your opponent! Everyone loves playing when it’s fun!!
I have a history of disliking goblins in Fantasy with a couple exceptions on a case by case basis. I freakin' LOVE GSG though. They probably have the highest density of "the best" looking sculpts in the game.

The two magnificent exceptions for me are the Fungoid and the Gobbapalooza. There are many great sculpts other than these, but these two are what I'd like the rest of the army to be like.
I think you missed a small point about the Boingrot Bounders, they have a fair bit of synergy buffs, their movement weakness can be overcome. You can get them to 2D6 + D6 Run and can still charge, & +5 extra move so average 15,5" move that can go down to 8" move or spike to 23" move and still charge, you can also if you wish turn the Run to a guaranteed 6", making it a minimum of 13", or anaverage in that case of 18" move. you can also buff them with bonus attacks from Sneaky Snufflers, it'll affect both weapon profiles, so each buff applied adds 2 attacks, add it twice and take 2D6 mortal wounds average 7, meaning 3 die from a 15man unit, but that unit of 12 left will have 8 attacks per model at 4+/2+/-1/d1 if you'd wish.

I agree with everything you said. I'm said that it feels like they just stapled on some units to the faction. Gloomspite is fun and well I love the old school gw humor so when the gobos came back with it I was home. Not to say other armies aren't great. The crazy fun/horror that geeetzz bring make me laugh every time.
I want more books of underground wars between these guys and skaven. Both are tripping balls on either warpstone or magic shrooms. Could the skaven blow up the bad moon?
The moon spreads its grin wide and accepts the glowing offering. Green flame flickers from its nose and through the gaps in its teeth, and leaks like tears of mirth from its eyes. "Congratulations! Bad Moon has unlocked Warpstone capabilities!"

I'm building both my first army for AOS and 40k ( night goblins and sisters respectfully) so thanks for the video! I love painting my little goblins and I hope I have half as much of a good time playing them as I have painting!

Meatball with teeth would be perfect description but you were close. I think the real challenge of GG is finding reliability in the whirlpool of randomness. At the eye of the storm you will find true power. Love GG and love your channel.
It’s interesting how AoS armies are so much more niche and focused, but also with smaller ranges, compared to regular Warhammer. Like here we basically have Goblins only without Orcs (although I suppose you can bring Orcs through the ally system), but on their own compared to the “Orcs and Goblins” or “Greenskins” faction in Fantasy there is much less here. This may be fine for armies like this with very thematic allies, but where it concerns me is armies like what I would use if I played, the Lumineth Realmlords who thematically should be their own faction but similarly have a quite small range of units to chose from compared to Old World Highelves.
I play gitz but one of my favourite things to do is imagine my own little head canon where my army (led by the loonking of course) are actually a quite diplomatic and good army.. unfortunately the other armies dont understand us and see us as barbaric. What a shame
GG player here. Great analysis, couldn't agree more. Very hard to master and even then, so random that if luck isn't on your side you'll loose more often than not against good opponents.
This was an amazingly nicely put together video. I had already picked the Gits for one of my AoS armies (I always play 2 for every game one "Good" one "Evil"). Any chance theres a DoK or Sylvaneth one in the works? (Im choosing between them or CoS for my 2nd army)
What I don’t get about the Gits is why they didn’t incorporate a greater variety of goblins from fantasy, like the Night Goblins with their poison. Oh well I guess while this is a cool, fun faction it’s definitely not my style to collect.
I recently got into the hobby and decided to make my first army a squig army. been playing against my friend who got a nighthaunt army and it's been quite a lot of fun. I did however realise that i've been playing said army quite differently to what this video and other people have been recommending and just charging everything with squigs, Don't really know how i've been getting away with it
Nighthaunt is a mediocre army, lower ranked then Gloomspite even, (both aren't top meta armies) nighthaunt gets a bit better if played in Legion of grief instead of their own book. Most tactics of how to play gloomspite guesses you'll face top tier armies like many do play, and thus you have to use every trick in the book to win.
Fyreslayers have fun allegiance abilities that really let you dictate how they work and when, but their units can be a bit one-note (to be fair it's a powerful spartan note). Where gits are kind of the opposite, their allegiance abilities are random and lackluster, but their units have weird and interesting abilities and roles to play. Both have hero phase utility so that's a wash: slayers with prayers and invocations, and gits with spells and endless spells. Pick the coolest one obviously.
@@HeyWoah thank you for the advice. What's not helping me is that I've got a really strong painting scheme in mind for the dwarves. Deep down I think I want to do the Gitz, but the idea of an ice/frost "Fyre"slayers army is a real strong draw. I think I need to get some inspiration for painting Gitz to even it out.
Great vid! Love the content, keep em coming! a quick note though... you don’t move scuttle tide after you cast it...description made it seem like you do but it’s just a setup
I love the Gloomspite. They're the only faction I can relate to on any level, it's green midgets versus macho idiocy on all sides as far as i can see. The more prophecy's ruined the better. The only faction with the potential to do anything interesting
I don't think so, no. As it stands they're 40/200 so it wouldn't be changing their points any, and while clanrats are definitely a powerful enabler to much of skaven's strength, it's their lop-sided specialist units for every job that carries them over the top.
Just a heads up, spider command traits are for the scuttleboss ONLY, in fact the spidershrine doesn't have the keywords to take any command trait in the whole book, for some absurd reason.
Your loyalty has been rewarded. Their new sub faction rules in white dwarf gave them a much needed boost. Not OP or anything, but better and more fun in all ways.
This is what they call an "alt take" on 1D.. In a good way.. Most other vids.. Imply Troll Hag and Boinggrots as amazing and the palooza as garbage.. It was nice to see a more grounded view.. /stares at 40 grey grots that'd look amazing in purple XD
People use troggoth hag because they for some reason love that horrible sculpt, and the warscroll spell being strong (but super short range and hard to resolve). Anything after that is post-hoc rationalization. Palooza is better than hag imo, but it's still not amazing or anything, just playable and cool. Boingrot seem amazing on paper, but having played against them many times they fall into that 'playable and cool but optional' category as well.
They're a gamble, of course, and I've mostly ever seen 1 unit of 10 in some lists. One of those units that works amazing when it works and feels like a waste of a lot of points when it doesn't.
HeyWoah yeah that’s exactly how I feel with them tbh. They feel especially useless sometimes when I forget they exist and then it’s too late for the surprise pop out.
Hey my dude! Thanks for aos support. I entertained 40k but my hearts with fantasy lol. Im considering the xmas box with gits cause i love the models. 2020 gits battleforce. They look like a poor synergy 😂😂 (i could be wrong 🤔😌) but what you suggest next couple of things should i get? Just synergy wpuld be good for either Troggs or squigs. Keep up the great vids 👍
Out of curiosity, what do you think it would take to bump these guys up to good, or even powerful in your own ranking? Would you say it's more in buffing the units and models, or more a matter of mechanical changes? I ask because they seem like they have a fair amount going for them. Not DoK level, but a fair amount all the same, at least in roster.
If keyword bingo stopping most synergies got relaxed it would go a long way. Bad Moon is actually bad, so a redesign on that one. Trogg heroes not being awful. And specifically to 3rd edition: reinforcements and coherency has horde armies playing in a straight jacket atm.
@@HeyWoah So with that being the case, do you suppose it's possible for any faction to be considered "powerful" without losing their identity/playstyle? I'm specifically thinking of factions like ogres and IDK, who have a playstyle that is synergistic with their lore. Would armies like that have to give up some of that "identity" to become more competitive, or at least have a more powerful unit roster to pick from?
@@wyvern876 Very much yes, a faction can be powerful and also fit well within their identity. Identity and playstyle are distinct from power on the table, you can have one without the other, or have both.
@@HeyWoah So it really does come down to GW getting everything "right." Honestly, that's pretty heartening: there's a perfect iteration of the game out there that we're (in theory) constantly working towards. And you know, I could get mad at GW for a lot of stuff, but having an improperly balanced game with as many moving parts as this isn't really one of them, especially when they have 2 whole games of that magnitude to manage.
True, but I wish GW gave me more to work with on that front. Their troops are really pretty solid as a baseline: decent defense, high quality rend, muti-damage attacks, etc, but those trogg heroes are just doing nothing to lift them up from their starting point. Gitz have so many buffs that all can only land on moonclan stuff - unfair imo. Your bat rep was a good illustration of that (all that excellent rend getting ignored, NH power buffs with no real trogg answers). Although really that classic NightHaunt jackpot was the crux, rolling 10s to charge right away is what NH lives for (and often dies for if they don't get it).
@@HeyWoah I'm flattered you watched my Batrep! Good on you! Thinking about starting a pure Squigg army... Still not utilizing the strength of the Battletome but sure looks like fun for battle reports! Plus I have Tzeentch for tournaments... Cheers!
It does about half the expected damage I would be looking for in artillery of its point range, but having a long range shooting option can put pressure on your opponent tactically. Is it worth 180 points? No, but it did go down to 160. I think it's right on the line for 'weak stats and too expensive, but worth testing anyway because sometimes a weak unit of a needed role is good enough when the rest of what you're doing is strong', especially if you like the model.
@@HeyWoah Thanks for the quick answer. Btw love your content. You are a godsend for someone like me who just started with Warhammer and almost finished painting 40 grots and 10 boingy boys.
Stormcast are... okay at the moment. Definitely need a new book. Fine if you're playing against friends in your garage or at a store. But they're lacking at the competitive level. Everything they do, another army can do better. Their book was one of the first of the new edition, so powercreep has hit them hard.
It's not even a power-level thing, as specific shootcast builds make fine counters to many strong lists. But I don't recommend stormcast to new players - it's actually just a terrible army for new players, from rules to mechanics to army creation, what to buy, how DS doesn't teach you arguably the most important skill (deployment), horrible internal balance within the book, hard to make lists for, and every year or so some new line comes out that makes the old stuff worthless and you have to keep buying another 1000 points to stay current.

Really cool video, love your personality
Loved it. Great vid! Very excited for some sample lists. Any thoughts on spears on stabbas and squig herds?
Question do you think clan rats would be broken if you could take them in massive regiments of 80 for 400 points.
I don't think so, no. As it stands they're 40/200 so it wouldn't be changing their points any, and while clanrats are definitely a powerful enabler to much of skaven's strength, it's their lop-sided specialist units for every job that carries them over the top.
Just a heads up, spider command traits are for the scuttleboss ONLY, in fact the spidershrine doesn't have the keywords to take any command trait in the whole book, for some absurd reason.
lol of course, but artefacts are fine, unlike fungoid where it's not fine. correction noted, and jesus this book's keyword roadblocks...
I have them and khorne. Its great switching between the intensity that is the khorne models to lol funny musbroom boy.
this video was really, helpful. Thanks dude. Liked and subbed.
These videos are fantastic
Even though they aren’t great I just think the idea of a troggoth army is cool
Your loyalty has been rewarded. Their new sub faction rules in white dwarf gave them a much needed boost. Not OP or anything, but better and more fun in all ways.
Now with the Squigbatallion in the WD, what do you think about the geeeeeeeetz?
The two white dwarf subfactions, squig one and troggoth one have changed the game. Now only spiders aren't viable.
But can you take a lot of nets?
I'm still not sure if getting Gitz was the best decision or the worst decision for my first army.
Does anyone use fanatics? If so, how do you play them effectively? I stopped using them because they did absolutely nothing for me most of the time.
What about regular squig hoppers?
Love all of these!!!!
Great video as always! Thanks
because they are goblins on squigs !!!
Hell yaz!!!
im watching this on mushrooms
considering these guys or seraphon
Did my trolls dirty. My Troggherd is rightly feared! Great video though 🍻
Cheers!
Check out white dwarf 455 for a squig sub-faction and battalion that is honestly decently competitive.
@@HeyWoah will do, thanks! I'd love to see a "Why play Tzeentch" video as they are my go-to tournament army. Keep up the good work!
"I try to steer people away from pure trash like 2k points of spiders or playing stormcast at all"
I'm ded, that's hilarious
Has your opinion changed at all with Jawz of Mork? Or anyone else?
It brought them up to playable as a full theme army - so a good thing, if a bit lacking still.
Thoughts on stabbas vs pokin' spears
The only rule of fight club is dont talk about fight club
Gooba paloooza should be a underworlds warband .
What about Squig Gobba? I read that he is the only viable artillary option for the gloomspites. Is he worth the 180points? I really like him
It does about half the expected damage I would be looking for in artillery of its point range, but having a long range shooting option can put pressure on your opponent tactically.
Love these vidoes!
Why did you say to avoid Stormcast ? Are they actualy a bad/trap faction or was that a meme ?
@@HeyWoah Seems like a headache. Thanks.
Wish there was a digital equivalent for Warhammer AoS - would love to play but don't want to paint a bunch of models.
I want more books ofl
Is there a army that has the same sort of silliness and buff stacking mechanics but in a less hordy army?
When can we expect our favourite ratmen?
Can these be ran with Iron jawz?
I see
