The Bike packing adventure that didn't go to plan

  • On Komoot I created an interesting circular ride of around 200 miles which I reckon could have been completed in less than 4 days with 3 overnight Wild Camps, I had planned to do this ride with my good friend Dave, but unfortunately Dave had a bit of lurgy and wasn't at full fitness so we decided to shorten the route by around half.
    Here's a link to that planned tour: www.komoot.com...
    Here is a link to the recorded route on strava which we actually cycled:
    Outward journey: / strava
    Homebound journey: / strava
    The dogs were pleased to see me :)
    All music in this video was from the RUclips audio library
    track 1 Ethereal choir ascends by Doug Maxwell_media
    track 2 Dude, where's my horse by Nat Keefe and the bow ties
    track 3 Floating home by Brian Bolger

    Nice trip out guys, and great to see the tunnels with a light. That valley at 9:00 is so stunning, really magical. Interesting to hear how the apple tree came about. A wise move to head for home, never any point in pushing yourself, you have nothing to prove. I actually watched part of this whilst I was riding...!!! I got the exercise bike back out the shed, and now do a gentle ride once or twice a day, I also use an exercise band, so have added that into my little workout. Since surgery, I have piled on weight [currently at 19.5 stone]...so watching you is an inspiration. Rest up, both of you... that journey will still be there when you are 100% fit.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  Год назад +1

      Welldone Bry, It is so important to get some exercise, it doesn't have to be marathon stuff, just a gentle exercise just to gently raise the heart rate and burn a few calories.
      If you burn more than you put in then you will lose weight but again don't go mad. Gently gently catch the monkey. Weight lost fast is often put on again fast, lose it slow and steady

Hungerford. Castle, we have a street here in Pittsfield Ma, called Hungerford Ave. and I see on the map Salisbury. been there down near Boston Ma. I have relatives there. love the tunnels. I remember them from another video. I can see now that just about 60% of all the towns and cities around here are sister to that area. We have a Shaftsbury Vt just about 10 miles norther of my home. So now we can see why my home is called "New England" my link/lne comes down from Canada. Nova Scotia my Father's birthplace. and where I get my Scot,Irish, English bloodlines. thanks for pushing on glad you and Dave survived and were not seriously pulled down from the trek. That was a very nice look at a great bicycling adventure Sandy. 117 miles is not a short ride, that is for certain. You made the correct call on not going the full trip that you had planned my friend. There is no logical reason to keep going and risk your health and continue punishing yourselves and not really creating any intense joy. There will be an abundance of "next times" so no worries there. The tire puncture was a downer, but, you were prepared and handled that beautifully and turned it in to being just another part of the experience. Thanks to both you and Dave for sharing your time with us again. See you on the next one. Cheers!

      Thanks Terry, Tubeless tyres can be a pig to remove, The bike came installed with a tube, I don't know why they didn't supply it tubeless in the first place

    Oh well never mind, there is always next time - not worth flogging yourself if you're not feeling it. BTW I never looked back going tubeless .. I carry a spare tube just in case .. but one of those superlight tubolitos tubes. However you still have to maintain them (i.e. top up the sealant every 3 months or so if needed etc.). I would do two wraps of tubeless rim tape, don't trust what's on the wheels already .. I like 'dynaplugs' when I do get a puncture that doesn't seal, but that's very uncommon. Oh you need a pump with a chamber to get the tyre seated or use something like an 'airshot' canister.
