Blood Moon Pack Pups in Spring 2023

  • We figured this footage of the Blood Moon Pack pups in their den from last year might start some folks week off on a positive note! The den was nothing more than a tipped over medium-sized jack pine…not much of a den!
And this is a fitting video because we are yet again at the start of the pup-rearing season-the beginning of the biological year for wolves! Indeed, most wolves in our area have just given birth as April 11 is average date pups are born.
The road to adulthood for these pups is a long route and most of the pups born recently will not see their first birthday. But some will
For example none of the pups in this video are still alive today. We don’t know why they didn’t make it but suspect starvation for at least a few pups who looked to be in rough shape last fall.
That said, GPS-collar data shows the Blood Moon Pack has already had pups this year and we look forward to seeing if this year’s litter fares better than last years.

It's nice to see the puppies play, but sad to read that none survived. I wasn't aware the survival rate of wolf cubs were so low until reading the descriptions under these videos.

Why? So all the animals being raised for that then have to be needlessly killed cuz the farmers and ranchers can’t afford to feed them? Or should they all be set free to destroy your precious gardens, become roadway casualty’s and killing innocent humans who accidentally hit them, or die of starvation from over-population? Think it through intelligently and come up with solutions rather than just feelings and opinions without any real substance.

@readytogo6569 It is important to understand that our needless demand for other animals' dead bodies pays for the systemic forced impregnation of female animals to bring more life into existence to replace the gentle animals we have just eaten.
It is taxpayers' money that subsidizes for the toxic GMO feed, scarce fresh water, and land usage.
To add to the matter, disease ridden animal agriculture is the #1 cause vital native species extinction and desertification worldwide.

@@dianat10314 Industrial Agriculture is the #1 reason for deforestation. Meat production, yes, but also includes demand for wood and wood products (building houses, etc), and infrastructure growth, as well as for soy and palm oil production. If you’re lay blame, don’t hone it to just fit your ideals. Tell the whole truth.

At this age, they act & play around just like regular domestic dogs that many of us live with. But something happens in a few months, then they must survive & no longer have the traits we desire.

Adult wolves still play. That’s one way mates first bond and then stay bonded through the years. They also play a lot with pups. Adults are very sweet and affectionate to the rest of their pack, it’s not like they turn into heartless killers.
