I’ve had the same lathe here in the the states for about two years and I love it. Different badging and paint ( here it’s model G0844 from Grizzly Industrial ). As your video has been out for six months you may have come to realize the things I’m about to mention, but if not I hope these help. 1) the largest allen key fits in the outboard end of the headstock to facilitate removal of the hand wheel. 2) the knock out bar isn’t necessary for most accessories in the tail stock. Fully retracting the quill should automatically eject them. The last one I would say come down to personal preference. I have removed the tool holder from the tail stock end,it’s just much easier when moving the tail stock on and off. Good luck and happy turning!

Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it. It’s a great little lathe, I use it almost everyday I’m off work. Thank for the three hints. 👍

I am glad for you , enjoy yourself. The reverse is for sanding. Be careful to make sure your chuck does not spin off the threads.

I did wonder why lathe’s have a reverse. I will be careful, need to get a new chuck first.

@@illgiveitago1239 do some looking at lathe chucks and take a lot of time to choose. As you know they are costly being you don't want to regret your choices .

I'v owned one of these lathes a few years now. Hope you have many years of fun turning with your new lathe.
A couple of ideas for you, move the Tool Rest - Handle on the tail stock side to the lower position, (the are extra screw holes below)
it will get in the way when you wish to remove the tail stock and banjo for cleaning etc. And the Tail stock gets in the way when turning
bowls or tall vases), I made a steady rest which I should of done years ago.
Also maintain the lathe often, as the tail stock will get stiff over time, a bottle cleaning brush is a must. I use GT85,
I also use GT85 with fine wire wool for the bed ways, then Peek Metal Polish Paste with a scotch pad and finally wax.
Oh the joys of cast iron.
I own a few SC3 and SC4 Record Power chucks, which have a screw to lock the chuck for reverse turning and sanding.
Like Mike Wallace said, take your time to choose what chuck is best for you. (Not cheap). the reason I have so many chucks
is because I'm lazy, and it takes time to keep changing Jaws, trust me, the is a lot of chuck jaws to chose from. LOL
    Enjoy your new toy.

@@illgiveitago1239 Forgot to say, you can get a bed extension for this lathe, (£139.98 ouch!) but that will free up valuable space in your workshop if you decide to pass on your Clark lathe. The proceeds could go towards the bed extension!
As You probably know, buying a wood lathe is the cheapest part of wood turning. If only somebody would of told me. LOL

Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it. I love the Axminster lathe, it’s so much better but if it wasn’t for the old Clarke lathe I’m not sure if I would’ve got into wood turning. It was cheap and did the job, well almost. 😁

Your Axeminster lathe has arrived in the U.S.A. with a different color and rebadged.
Craft Supplies USA has it advertised as Artisan 1420 EVS for $950 USD + $105 USD shipping.

I’m very surprised that they are selling this lathe in the USA. You have a very large range of lathe’s. I am loving this lathe it’s fab, but I have very limited experience in wood turning. I need to get so many new chisels and throw away my cheap Chinese rubbish. Watch this space for new tools. They are so expensive 🥲also a new chuck ££££££££££££££££

Good morning, what is the difference between this one and 305?

    • @illgiveitago1239
      @illgiveitago1239  Год назад

Hi, thank you for your comment. I don’t know much about the 305. The main difference is you can turn up to 355mm diameter on my lathe, the controls have a digital display other than that I’m not sure. The AC355WL is a fantastic machine. Happy Turning 😊

Thanks for the review! Ive been doing a fair bit of research and this is the one I keep coming back too. I am still confused what this indexing pin and wheel actually do though? Ive looked at the PDF manual online but still wondering the purpose? If the indexing pin is left in locked will that jam up the motor from turning? Also its says as craft range only suitable for around 2 hours a week use - seems a very short time? On my days off I think I would be in the shed with it good bit more than 2 hrs....how have you found that now you have used it. I mean its metal so not a lot can wear there Im guessing it the motor brushes and drive belt/electronics that wear?
Ah! did a bit more digging around and I see that INDEXING is a way to manually turn the wood by hand in a step wise fashion to decorate the wood in a measured way - as seen here

This is a great wood turning lathe, I use my lathe for hours at a time with no issues. The index pin will stop the motor from turning and I have since learned how to use it.Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it.
